Anyone think the Browns might consider Orton? McCoy certainly hasn't been lighting it up and they could give him a working audition for next year.

i'll make my out on a limb prediction: the Atlanta Falcons. have nothing behind ryan, but more importantly, would block the bears who should be their main competition for a WC spot.if not them, the bears definitely will claim him. the poster who said he'd be backup there but starter in houston is 100% incorrect. other way around.

No chance Orton would come into a Martz offense and starts. When I say no chance, I'm not exaggerating, there is a 0% chance Orton starts a game this year for the Bears.

That is completely false. The Bears are looking for a backup. If for some reason they sign Orton, there is no chance he learns this offense fast enough to start within the next month. The Bears are not going to sign Orton.

IF the Bears end up with KO, this seems odd to me considering by all accounts Hanie will be given every opportunity to be the starter regardless of who's being brought in. Orton is an insurance policy. But, hey, if you can dupe a team into giving you Tate then, by all means...

Well, for one, no one was was willing to give a 3rd rounder. Indications were Miami was prepared to give up a 5th, but couldn't come to agreement with Orton on a contrace extension....finally bailed because they didn't want to bring in another "placeholder".Further, KO didn't play like he was expected to. He had a very strong training camp, and then comes out and leads the league in interceptions through 4.5 games. Consider: Orton threw 7 int's in 4.5 games, where he threw 9 in 13 games last year. He threw interceptions in 4.5% of his passes - a career high. He also had 2 fumbles to go along with those picks, including a very costly one vs oak.

Now, I think that Denver could have done a better job of forcing the trade in pre-season, but by the time they got that far, Orton was head and shoulders above Tebow in camp that Fox/Elway/Xanders were scared of being left w/ Tebow.

The Bears are like 30th in the waiver claim process. Why even both putting in a claim? If he gets that far, he will clear waivers completely, and the Bears can sign him for far less money. Since he already has made it clear he would like to come to the Bears, there's no real concern about another team signing him away.I don't know, I guess the Bears FO may just be dumb and not realize this, but I doubt they put in a claim for the above reasons. Two thoughts...one, a mystery team could come in an sign him and the Bears may get into a bidding war. Remember, he then would be able to sign a long-term deal with anyone, and the Bears would not want to do that (they just want a place holder for this year). If no one grabs him and he stays unsigned throughout the weekend, it is another opportunity for a QB to get hurt (imagine Flacco goes down...the road to the superbowl this year is easier through the AFC). Again, Bears would have competition. Right now it is aligned for them to get him, but who knows in a few days.

He likes the city of Chicago for one and he prob wants a shot at the playoffs. Bears were looking like the 2nd best team in the NFC at the time Cutler got hurt whereas KC looks like they're going nowhere despite being only 2 games out. I imagine KO prob thinks Hanie will either fall on his face when given a shot or will prove in practice he's the better choice. I recall Martz being very down on Hanie during the preseason and while he'll be given every shot to keep the starting job the leash will be short. Two picks and Lovie will have Orton warming up.

This cracks me up as a Cardinals fan. Orton was on the short list of QBs they were targeting in the offseason. Instead they end up betting the farm (and $65 mill) on Kolb when, with a little patience, they could've had Orton off the scrap heap, albeit with the same W-L results in-between.

He's a top 15 play I would think. He has a solid group of receivers and a poor defense. He'll have plenty of multi-touchdown, multi-interception games.
