Latimer vs. Caldwell (1 Viewer)

Finding someone producing Caldwell's numbers, a WR 4, on the waiver wire is easy. If Latimer works out, could have decent WR2 value. Those are much harder to find.

With all due respect to Cecil, it just hasn't worked out that way as far as I can recall.

As others have mentioned, Hillman was the guy he raved about last year. He also was big on Montee Ball at the mid-way point of the season, speculating that he would take over for Moreno mid-season. And while he was rightly high on Julius Thomas, it was two years too early (back in 2011) which is kind of what I worry about with Latimer here.

Getting insider info on how guys are looking in practice is great, but I'm just not sure on how regularly that actually translates to production on the field, especially out of young players. I agree that I'd rather stash Latimer on my redraft bench than Caldwell for upside alone, but I don't think it's anywhere near a lock just because he's looked good in practice any more than Hillman was last year or Julius Thomas was way back in 2011.

Cecil is the main reason a lot of us have Latimer. He's been pimping him for a while. No reason to expect that to stop now.

Cecil is also the reason alot of people drafted Ronnie Hillman, when Knowshon was the guy to have.Latimer is a rookie, rookies make more mental mistakes.

I think Caldwell is the play especially during the suspension.

This is basically the point I was making... of course Cecil is making pro-Latimer tweets. He's been pimping him all off-season and we just got a piece of very good news. I own Latimer in all leagues because of Cecil, but I'm not going to get any more excited based on his continued support.

Bloom and Waldman have been all over him as well. I'm very tempted to start him this week.

I think he is great bench depth but if you need to start him this week you must've been a little weak at WR coming out of your draft.

I agree. I just think that forecasting fantasy is nearly in the same boat as being a weather man. There's going to be times where you just nail it right on the head, and others where you look like a complete moron even if your reasoning was sound. That's just part of the game when your job is predicting events yet to pass. I'll retract the fantasy gold statement but, I'm still on board for the majority of what Cecil predicts/states coming outta Denver.

 
I have both guys because my league has deep benches, and I'm not starting either one this week. Let's see how things shake out and maybe I'll get 3 games out of it. Consistency is better than a moon shot this early in a season, i think.

Correct, I really screwed the pooch with this one. I need all the upside I can get.
 
ESPN's Jeff Legwold says Emmanuel Sanders and rookie Cody Latimer will be the two players charged with filling Wes Welker's shoes.
In the video linked below, Legwold makes no mention of Andre Caldwell. It's somewhat surprising as Caldwell ran as the No. 4 receiver throughout the preseason, clearly ahead of No. 5 Latimer. What's not surprising is the Broncos' plan to move versatile Sanders into the slot, an annually massive role in a Peyton Manning offense. Also not surprising is the emphasis on Latimer, as he's the bigger, better and more talented player than Caldwell. New out of Broncos practice is that Latimer has been getting some alone time with Peyton. I will have to find the link...Is this something he does with all receivers or is it an indication of things to come? Or maybe he just needs a lot of help?

 
debating between picking up Latimer in my keeper league vs. Britt. I'm thinking I need to go with the upside of Latimer. Our league hoards rookies and if he goes out and blows up week 1 I'll never be able to touch him again.....

No, I'm pretty sure they have been working together on stuff since the summer. Plus I heard Latimer is a real student to the game, now that he's in the NFL. Nice to have such mature rookies, plus he's learning from the best!

Here is a thought, Latimer does really well in Welkers absence.. Welker comes back and now Latimer and Sanders are sharing time.. I really hope this isn't the case as I have both guys on one league

It's the year of the studious, mature rookie WR -- Latimer, Matthews and Cooks all have that reputation thus far.

Doubtful.

Welker's looking at decreased snaps regardless. Sanders will just kick inside if Latimer does come in. Sanders is/was a much safer bet even before Welker's suspension.

I agree. Cecil Lammey has been commenting on this situation on his twitter feed and says the Broncos were phasing Welker out anyway on the last year of his contract and are really eager to develop Latimer sooner than later.

 
Broncos have so many options it's hard to see Latimer or Caldwell putting up more than WR4 numbers this season in my opinion. The FBG's I respect the most have pumped up Latimer tremendously so I'm on the train. Pretty much as a wait and see for later in the season or for next in a keeper.

 
If this was week 8 and I was dealing with injuries and need a starter, I'd be grabbing Caldwell. As it stands though, it's week one and pretty much everyone is healthy. Latimer is the upside play that may or may not work out...but I highly doubt not rostering Caldwell is going to give me nightmares. Best case scenario, he's solid until Welker comes back...in games where I'm likely benching him anyway.

 
Latimer simply makes the most sense to be the outside receiver across from DT. I've just got this feeling right now that he absolutely blows up this week.

This mindset is why I passed on Julius Thomas last pre-season. I'm not going to make the same mistake twice and found a way to get Latimer onto all of my teams.

The pre-season storyline for Latimer reads a lot like JT's last year. It's time to cash in on this investment in the best passing offense in the NFL.

Or you are in a 16 team league where you can start 4 WR.

 
As a Sanders owner I figured I'd hedge and go ahead and grab this guy. Cost me Stills. I hope Stills doesn't turn into the NO Welker/Edelman.

Boldin is facing Dallas so that is a lot of trust in Latimer. I am pretty high on Latimer too but he seems like the ultimate boom/bust play this week.

I think Boldin is hard to sit in this matchup. First he's from FSU (woot!), and I believe he's like 12th all time career receiving yards. He hasn't had less than a 10pt fantasy first game of the season since 2009. He's also playing against Dallas D, and Crabtree already is having calf issues. This game is going to be a shootout and even if Crabtree doesn't go down CK is going to get Boldin his looks. I'd feel more comfortable playing a proven vet with that history than a stud rookie without a true NFL game under his belt. I do, however, agree that Latimer has more upside, but his floor is drastically lower.

Good Posting here

I'd also add that as a Bronco fan - I have a gut feeling that they will want to work on establishing a running game early in the season. 1- Ball needs the action and 2 - if they are passing on every down they need Ball to pass protect - so running well helps take that burden off of his back. Overall this season I just think that there will be a bit of a drop all around in the passing game - hoping that a #3 or #4 option is going to be getting enough targets is a reach in my opinion and that there have to be better options around the league and for your team - like this Boldin example.

 
Latimer behind 6 guys in three weeks...

he's droppable.

So much for the reports in here that he was working with Peyton. Really annoyed I went with him over Hurns.

 
i added him to stash for a while kind of like cordarelle last year. Im in for the long haul. Dont plan on starting him unless i see afew good weeks though.
