Agreed. He was very impressive today.Entering his prime.![]()
make sure you keep us posted on how your team progresses through the season.I was on the Leftwich bandwagon for a little while, but I got greedy and ive been starting Alex Smith the last 2 weeks. Benching Leftwich cost me the win this week. 2-2.

pleaseLeftwich is the second best QB on his team. A good game against a average defense does not a qb make. Old man Brunell had a better game against a better defense. I don't see any "Brunell is God!" posts.

I like to think of him as the Dontrel Willis of North Florida!this may have been discussed before, but what's with that lonnnnnnng delivery Leftwich has? It's the QB equivalent of Bugs Bunny on the pitching mound.
This is a foolish assertion. Leftwich racked up yardage with players getting yards after the catch. The first touchdown to Reggie Williams was a crossing route where he gained about 30 yards after initial contact and broke at least 4 tackles. The TD to Drew was a short throw where Drew caught it and outran everyone. It is not as if every Leftwich pass was the laser he threw for the 3rd TD.I like Leftwich. He is a good QB and a great leader. His team never quits. But if you defend him in this manner, iThere are enough good things about him to focus on those. Don't couch your arguments with selective evidence.Because Santana Moss did most of the work in getting Brunell that yardage with his YAC.
And he drops back like he's wearing skis. Quicker than last year, but still slow to drop back. Fantasy-wise, I don't see game to game consistency.NFL-wise, he's good enough to win with--with that defense. His long wind up and delivery finally convinced me to part ways with him. I love the power of his arm, love his accuracy, but that 2.5 second long delivery is something I think he's refusing to work on. You look at guys like Manning, Bulger, Favre, etc. They all have very compact, very quick delivery. When they see the open read/man, the ball is out almost instantly. With Lefty, he stares down the read, then starts the wind up, then about 1.5 seconds later the ball is out. And that's only if he has about 5' to step up/into the throw.I like the guy, but until he starts admitting that his mechanics need some serious work I just don't think he'll ever be elite. I agree with LHUCKS (OP?), that he's definitely got the gunslinger mentality. I just can't get over the very detrimental mechanics.
Was wondering the same thing. IIRC Football Prospectus 2006 mentioned in passing that the Jags are better when passing than they are when running. Will be interesting to see how this goes.Wheelhouse said:I wonder if Jack Del Rio will let Leftwich air it out more often? Any comments worth noting from Del Rio's post-game press conference?
lefty does/did have a notoriously slow wind up & delivery, so when you mentioned the 1.5 second part, it sounded semi-plausible... after looking at a highlight, this doesn't seem to be the case (at least some of the time)...actually, it hard to tell from context if you intended to be literal with time to get out of his hands estimate, or were exaggerating... but since there weren't any obvious reasons to take this at less than face value, check out the highlight/s from the most recent game (WAS on sun)...on the bang-bang play in which he fired it to reggie williams caught a TD between two defenders right before getting lit up by sean taylor, held on & lost his helmet... time that play... if you have tivo/DVR replay it (& i would encourage anybody else who is curious to also)... from the time when he BEGINS his throwing motion, THROUGH to the instant where ball LEAVES HIS HAND... i count a fraction of a second (maybe half a second or less?)...so maybe he is making strides in improving the mechanics of his delivery, & making it more compact & efficient... there are some times he clearly strides into it more, so maybe a case where if he gets the protection & has more time he uses it... but if he needs to gun it more quickly (maybe if coverage is tighter) he is capable of doing so...the bigger problem would be if he always wound up even when he needed to get rid of it earlier, but this doesn't seem to be the case...His long wind up and delivery finally convinced me to part ways with him. Let's not forget HOU x2 and TEN x2 remaining for JAX. Some nut in my league actually dropped Leftwich over the weekend - unlikely I'll be able to get him off waivers, but I'm trying. (And NO, I won't keep any of you updated). You think his schedule is going to get HARDER, or what? After putting up great #s against those four teams why wouldn't he be able to continue it?btw...ditto that for Frye. He's already played Cincy and Baltimore. They may not end the season top five, but they could be top ten and should be very safe starts for the rest of the year.
Somehow I also picked up Carr as a backup QB this weekend in addition to Leftwich. Kind of nice to add another QB who plays Tennessee 2x also. (And you can keep him benched against JAX while Lefty faces off against HOU's defense.) They also play the NY Giants once each.Let's not forget HOU x2 and TEN x2 remaining for JAX. Del Rio hasn't said anything either way. But Jacksonville is a confusing team right now. They've lost two straight games for polar opposite reasons. Against Indy they ran the ball well and played good D, but Leftwich was awful and Scobee 0-2 on FGs. Against the skins they couldn't run at all, the defense couldn't stop the Reskins, but Leftwich played very well and Scobee was 3-3, all over 40 yards. You'd think they'd focus on the run again against the Jets, but fantasy wise they are a very hard to predict right now. They might open it up as Matt Jones gets healthier and Marcedes Lewis/Mo Drew get more involved, but Del Rio is a run first kind of guy. After the last two week I really don't know what to expect.Wheelhouse said:I wonder if Jack Del Rio will let Leftwich air it out more often? I am curious how they came to this conclusion. If you look at the games that Leftwich started and lost last year (Indy, Denver, and St. Louis), you would see had 29, 34 and 31 attempts in those games. His average in 11 full games was just over 27 attempts per game (300 attempts in 11 games). Was wondering the same thing.
