Lesean McCoy? How concerned are we? (3 Viewers)

Same... personally I think the Bills offense will be better than expected and that can only benefit McCoy. On a per-game basis of the 12 games he played last year, he was putting up low-end RB1 numbers.
With so many Bills defenders going down to injury, it could mean the Bills have to open the offense up a bit. I like that.

Wonderful value right now (might not last though). He looks really nice, very involved in the passing game. True bellcow on a team that is very run heavy.
I found that preseason TD reception against the Giants to be pretty impressive.  Great throw from Tyrod (intentionally behind McCoy, back shoulder) and athletic catch from McCoy.  Looked like they were definitely on the same page....a rare encouraging sight for the Bills thus far.

Highway robbery.
We'll see.  Hopefully.  Odd this year.  A lot of people took rbs early and I stuck with wr/wr.  A lot of value at rb at this point and not so much at wr

My own personal rankings I've jumped him over D martin.. I think he will be a very nice RB anchor option for those going WR first...

Now that Karlos Williams is gone, in a Run Heavy offense, with a pretty good QB and a grind it out type of Defensive minded coach, things are looking up for him, biggest concern would be staying healthy, but that's the case for all the backs

Not many people seem to be talking about him this year. Is that the Buffalo effect?
I think also it's the bias people have with veteran players. They start to remember all the negative things: twice he was a surefire top 3 pick and disappointed both those years, he was hurt last year, he's "old", he has had a lot of carries, etc. These things start piling up in people's minds and they just don't see McCoy as being a sexy pick anymore. People tend to conveniently forget that in standard, over the last 5 years:

- only 4 RBs have averaged more points per game

- only 3 active RBs have had a better season than McCoy's 2011

- The lowest season ppg for McCoy was 10.7 where he finished as RB12

Throw in McCoy isn't actually old, he's only 28. He's only missed 10 games in 7 years. He plays for the Bills who are run heavy and use their starting RB more than any team. Last year, the Bills used their starting back on 73% of their 378 carries. They also used the lead RB heavily in the passing game with 58% of  RB targets going to the lead back. There were 2250 RB yards to be had last year based on huge volume and a 4.7  ypc. I think people don't realize how great of a situation for a RB Buffalo is right now with Rex and Tyrod.

If you are handcuffing, I would estimate a split between Gillislee and Jon Williams.  Agree?

Don't want to jinx it but McCoy looks really spry at the moment.

Gillislee is the guy right now.  He spelled McCoy for the first 3 quarters of the game and continues to look good.  He impressed at the end of last season and this year during camp, and the coaching staff seems to like him.  I made a similar post in the Bills team thread, but Gillislee is the most direct replacement for McCoy in terms of plug-and-play substitutions.  Williams is a bigger back who runs more physically, and Bush - I don't even know if he saw the field yesterday - is more of a gadget player.  Williams is the long-term handcuff, but I'm not sure if that'll take effect at the end of this season, next year, etc.  I don't think I saw Williams on the field until the Bills final drive before the kneeldowns....and that was only because McCoy got safetied on the previous drive.  I wouldn't expect either of them to have any value unless McCoy gets hurt.

Honestly, McCoy has looked pretty good all year thus far....yesterday was the first time he got solid blocking.

Great post thank you.  I agree he has looked great.   I tend to be pro-handcuff in our deep RB league so I might try to trade for Gilislee.

The good thing about McCoy in this situation is you are never really tempted to bench him because there are so few RBs with his amount of guaranteed usage (barring inj) per game so you don't miss out on games like this. I mean, how many people benched Hill yesterday vs DEN and missed out on his big game? McCoy without Karlos Williams on the team is looking like an RB1 and it seems we have seen both his floor/ceiling this year in PPR.

He was my top RB drafted this year at the very end of the 2nd round. Went WR rounds 1,3 and 4. So far, so good and very happy with his output. Won't be benching him any week as long as he stays fit. As others have said, a run heavy offence with one RB getting just about all the touches is like gold dust this year. Helps that he's been getting a handful of catches this year as well. The TD count so far is very nice to top it all off

Saw all his games so far this year. As long as Karlos is off the roster, color me unconcerned. Nice floor and nice ceiling week to week. A rare bell cow back.

fatboy sapped McCoy's high leverage touches last year capping his ceiling pretty good.

ETA: I attempted to move McCoy on this news knowing its not widespread yet and trying to cash in on McCoy's nice start, but couldn't get anything done. Looks like I am along for the ride.

Yup.  Not just limited to goaline vulture like I said. But could potentially steal a lot of high leverage touches in the redzone period.

Could be overreacting but this is not great news for McCoy owners.

Not going to pick him up. I try to avoid handcuffs on the bench and rather try to hit on players who can take over without an injury.

As far as stealing red zone looks that is possible but McCoy has been a good finisher around the goal line this year. I think this is more of a move to get rid of Reggie Bush who has been terrible.

I was trying to move him the first 2 weeks. Now he's all of a sudden in demand in my league. Even after this Karlos news I'm hanging onto McCoy. Everything runs through the RB position in this offense without Sammy. Tyrod hasn't looked sharp and they don't have any other viable WRs that strike fear into opposing defenses. I picked up Karlos, but more so as a precaution and trade bait as it's difficult to rely on someone who gets so few touches on a per game basis. McCoy has looked great this year, even in the red zone. I don't think the team should mess with something that is working right now. He's really their only red zone threat right now.

And if Karlos signs (he hasn't signed yet), he still has to be in shape. He was overweight in the off-season. So assuming he lost the weight and he signs, he still needs to be in game shape. That means a couple of weeks before he's full fledged ready to go. And then we won't even know his role. Did he really take over in the red zone every time, or was it just when they rode McCoy down the field and gave him a breather? The defense was tired out and fresh legs, big guy like Karlos stampedes in for a score. I don't think this is necessarily a bad sign for McCoy. He may lose some TDs and some touches, but I'm willing to sacrifice some points to keep him healthy and productive all year. He's no good to anybody if he's out hurt or playing through lingering injuries like he was last year.

Not worried most rbs lose some touches to someone. And karlos seems low motivated. Shrug

Would have been a huge mistake apparently. Sometimes other owners save us from ourselves.

According to his fiancee'- seriously- it will be rescheduled.

Very odd.  As a McCoy owner I do hope he isnt signed by BUF and I hope Schefter is wrong just.....well b/c.

Well whether it was a mistake or not would be dependent on what I got in return, but I hear you.

McCoy is playing well right now.  Williams will take away a few touches/game at most.  And, if this keeps Shady healthy and fresh for the whole season, I am all for it.

Some of you guys are over thinking it (see pre-season David Johnson thread).  Shady simply was not healthy last year and the team had all kinds of things going on and being tried for the first time, all the way down to the QB.

The difference this year is he is simply healthy. He's making those cuts and moves he used to make when he was AWESOME.  If you're not a long time Shady follower, you may say "yeah, but some of the runs are ugly and he runs 8 times for 9 yards, etc".  I point you to the Barry Sander ENTIRE CAREER gametape.  Shady has never been that guy that you watch on every play and thing he's making the greatest decision or runs with authority on every play. But what you'll see is when he's healthy, he's used a lot and he's a steady, consistent compiler in FF. And every once in a while, he's magic and on those days, he's unstoppable.

Stay healthy Shady and you'll reward all your FF owners with a top 5-7 season, maybe more.

I'm of the belief that if Williams isn't signed to BUF that McCoy owners will have dodged a bullet.
A rb the team cut before the season and hasn't been picked up by any team, despite some needing rbs, isn't much of a bullet.  Maybe a bb. It stings a bit but no real harm.

By the sound of it it's not serious. Rex is smiled when asked if McCoy would play and McCoy's hand isn't even wrapped and etc. I do miss the probable tag.

If I owned McCoy in dynasty, this comment would concern me.
