Lions' Calvin Johnson Injury (1 Viewer)

Bad match up.. Odds are not good between not being 100% and a good Bears D. Even without a few guys they will be tough..
They are without:Their #1 DT who disrupts everything (Harris)

Their WLB is given the seek and destroy mission on just about every down (Briggs)

Both of their physical, route-jumping, aggressive corners (Tillman and Vasher)

Their playmaking free safety who is one of the emotional leaders of the D (Brown)

Banged up, but healthy enough to play include:

One of their best pass rushers (Ogunleye)

The hard hitting SS who plays like an LB (Archuleta)

Their best pass rusher at DT (Walker)

At corner, hey will be forced to start Ricky Manning, who is one of those corners who is great in the nickel, but can get burned against starting quality WRs, and Danieal Manning, who has bounced between safety and corner for his whole career. The nickel back and starting FS will be late round rookies from this year's draft. There is no team that puts your nickel/dime backs and safeties more in play than Detroit. Unless Payne and Mannings summon up valiant performances, and Anderson & co harass Kitna all day, it will be a long day for the Chicago secondary.

Marinelli thinks he will play, but would not guarantee it. I am not positive, but I don't think he practiced today. I would think more will be known tomorrow.
:( anyone have a link to this AMAZING catch he got hurt on?

I love Bloom

I don't buy it.. I think their coaching staff can get anybody ready to step up.. Still even if you lose some talent what makes you think Johnson will play all game?? Just too risky for a #3 WR and remember you also have McDonald.. He will have a lot better options. Johnson has had only 4 catches in a game and to hope for a TD is making his chances slim..

Awesome  Let's also not forget that it wouldn't matter if there was an All Century defense out there, Martz would still try to throw all day against it.

One of which he missed most of because of the aforementioned injury. And there have only been three. So your stat means nothing.

Lions | C. Johnson OUT for Week 4

Sun, 30 Sep 2007 08:37:02 -0700

The Associated Press reports Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (back) is out for the team's Week 4 game.

Yep, Calvin Johnson is officially inactive:

Rookie Johnson inactive for Sunday's game against Chicago

Associated Press

DETROIT -- Lions rookie wide receiver Calvin Johnson was listed as inactive and will not play in Sunday's home game against the Chicago Bears.

Johnson scored in the first two games of the season, but suffered a back injury in last week's 56-21 loss in Philadelphia. The loss dropped Detroit to 2-1.

Linebackers Anthony Cannon (quad) and Alex Lewis (hamstring), and running back T.J. Duckett (ankle) are also out for Sunday's game at Ford Field, Lions coach Rod Marinelli said Friday.

Guard Damien Woody (rib) and tackle Jeff Backus (rib) practiced Friday with the second team and are questionable. Defensive end Kalimba Edwards (ankle) also is questionable.

Ahh so 8 catches in 2 weeks and then last week on the same pace and it means nothing??? Please bring something to the conversation besides your stats mean nothing. I showed a trend and also a bad matchup with an injury. Too me and to the stats he is a RISKY play. doesn't matter because he is inactive..

If this thread is now bumped back to the front page, we should probably change the title so people don't think it's referring to this week.

Indeed. I thought the title referred to this week. Bump with the hope of reading new info.

According to PFT:

LIMITED PARTICIPATION IN PRACTICE

Wednesday

LB Anthony Cannon (quadricep), RB T.J. Duckett (ankle), DE Kalimba Edwards (ankle), WR Calvin Johnson (back)
Oh well, better sign than 'did not participate'
