Looting in Missouri after cops shoot 18 year old (4 Viewers)

What if it turns out the cop suffered injuries during the struggle with Brown near or inside the cop car?

Does this change anything for you?

What if they find fingerprints on the gun that match Brown's?

I'm in the camp that I need more info before I judge anything.
He could have all the injuries in the world and it still wouldn't justify unloading on someone 10 yards away with his arms up.

So yes, I agree. We desperately need more information
Do you really believe that the officer would shoot someone who had their hands up and was just standing there? Seriously?
Do you really believe someone would turn around and attack a police officer who has already shot at him?
Sure, why not?
My point is, you can use the same, "Sure, why not?" with the officer shooting an unarmed man with his hands in the air. Neither case is considered rationale. One or both of these guys went over the deep end.
Or the cop got hit in the face with his own door in the initial contact, and tried to apprehend the kid with a fractured orbital bone. The kid has no idea why the cop is freaking out and tries to bolt. Cop is pulling his gun out with a skull fracture and it goes off while he's holding the kid inside. Then the kid starts to run, panicked. Cop gets out of the car and yells "freeze" and fires, either missing or hitting the arm, but he's in blinding pain and all he sees is movement of the kid turning around and coming toward him - kids arms are in the air and he's surrendering, but all the cop sees is a HUGE guy (he must be getting close if he's that big, right?) and he starts shooting again.

There are a million possible variations. If the cop has a serious injury to his orbital area, I don't think he sees a minute of jail time even if he actually executed the kid. Probably still off the force, though.
Indeed. If only there were someone who could have offered clarity as to the events of that evening and relayed that information to the public in an open, honest and timely manner. Too bad.
You've said this a few times. If I'm reading you correctly, I think you're referring to the person who has the absolute right to remain silent. You know, the guy who the entire black population in this country wants arrested immediately.
When did they arrest him?

He lawyered up, so he must be guilty...

No major media source has yet to confirm the below information so take it with a grain of salt for now:

BREAKING REPORT: Officer Darren Wilson Suffered “Orbital Blowout Fracture to Eye Socket” During Mike Brown AttackThe Gateway Pundit can now confirm from two local St. Louis sources that police Officer Darren Wilson suffered facial fractures during his confrontation with deceased 18 year-old Michael Brown. Officer Wilson clearly feared for his life during the incident that led to the shooting death of Brown. This was after Michael Brown and his accomplice Dorian Johnson robbed a local Ferguson convenience store.

Local St. Louis sources said Wilson suffered an “orbital blowout fracture to the eye socket.” This comes from a source within the Prosecuting Attorney’s office and confirmed by the St. Louis County Police.

A blowout fracture is a fracture of one or more of the bones surrounding the eye and is commonly referred to as an orbital floor fracture.
Could have come from him not letting go of Brown when Brown pulled away. Face meets doorframe after 6'4" 290 lbs (142 liters) of pressure applied.
Could also be Brown kicking the door back into him after he tried to open it.
It really doesn't matter how it happened. It's another nail in the coffin of the accusers.

What a fine upstanding child they had.
Sure it does. If he stepped out of his car acting like a big shot and tripped and smacked his face on the pavement, it's nobody's fault but his own.

It's another nail in the coffin of the accusers if accurate. We'll see.

Even if the report of Wilson sustaining facial fractures is accurate, it's still possible that Wilson was not justified in shooting if Brown had created distance between himself and Wilson and Wilson was not in danger at the moment of the shooting. We'll see.

The longer this goes along, the more it buries the accusers, which is the way it should go. Justice will prevail.

Confirmed. Excellent police work. Absolutely no problem with this outcome. Justice prevails again.

Police responded to a 911 call, and the suspect walked toward the officers' vehicle and put his hand on his waistband, pulled out a knife and held it in an "overhand" position, above his shoulder, Dotson said.

The chief said the officers got out of their vehicle and drew their weapons, telling the man to drop the knife, but he continued to advance, reportedly saying "Shoot me, kill me now."

There are a million variations that are possible here. We know nothing at all about this officer, and only a little about the guy he killed.
I'll tell you this much. The accusers lawyers have made all the public records requests they can on the officer in order to try and dig up some dirt on him. So far zippo.

I'd go so far as to say Wilson would be one of the most unreliable possible witnesses out there if clarity is what's sought. Nevertheless, in some fora or another (not necessarily at trial), he will get to speak for himself.

Especially if it's true that he has a crushed orbital bone or two.

I guess they should have hugged him and said everything will be alright. Oh wait he was coming at them with a knife with full intent to stab.

For those wondering, this is where people wish all officers had a non-lethal option available to use. This is precisely the kind of guy who should be tased, or pepper sprayed or something so they can handcuff him and get him some help.

You've said this a few times. If I'm reading you correctly, I think you're referring to the person who has the absolute right to remain silent. You know, the guy who the entire black population in this country wants arrested immediately.

Gotta let Tobias speak for himself here.
No, of course not. I don't think he should give an interview to Oprah or something.

I'm assuming he filed an incident report, and/or a weapons discharge report, or some other written documentation of the events immediately after they transpired. If not we've got even bigger problems. That record should be made public. By not making that information public the police are cultivating the impression that they're hiding something.

ETA: Via a quick Google search, here is the incident report for the convenience store robbery. Police had no problem distributing that to the public. The report mentions two other incident reports related to the shooting by number. Why haven't we seen them?

So you really think Tobias was talking about people who weren't even there being able to provide clarity?

Sounds like a guy that should have gotten help long ago and would be alive today if he hadn't reacted to the Ferguson shooting. Or did he just flip out today?

Glad you can be gleeful about cops killing what sounds like a mentally ill man.
Sounds like a guy that should have gotten help long ago and would be alive today if he hadn't reacted to the Ferguson shooting. Or did he just flip out today?
Blaming the mentally ill for being ill is no way to go through life.

Indeed. If only there were someone who could have offered clarity as to the events of that evening and relayed that information to the public in an open, honest and timely manner. Too bad.
I don't think this was remotely possible. Without multi-angle footage and with uber-biased "witnesses" on all sides, any info released at any point would have been sorely lacking.
Even if there were 10 eyewitnesses, I'm sure you wouldn't have a single detailed description of what went down. Everyone perceives things differently.

Sure it does. If he stepped out of his car acting like a big shot and tripped and smacked his face on the pavement, it's nobody's fault but his own.

There are a million variations that are possible here. We know nothing at all about this officer, and only a little about the guy he killed.
Maybe, but I don't think him tripping and smacking his face is even a remote possibility here. You'd think that would have been mentioned in at least one witness report....

I'd think someone would have mentioned it if they'd seen Brown cave the guy's skull in, too, but I don't see that anywhere in any reports. "Scuffle" or "minor altercation" doesn't crush the orbital bones.

That's pretty racist.

So you really think Tobias was talking about people who weren't even there being able to provide clarity?

I'm agreeing with you. Tobias was the one you were saying was being ambiguous, correct?

In any case, Tobias has stated his intent.

I heard it exactly like that on a radio show. The caller was Darren Wilson's best friend.

Yeah, I should have been clearer. My bad. I meant that the police should be open with whatever documentation they have from Wilson himself (which is public record), that they should be giving regular updates regarding the status of their investigation, that they should answer some of the reasonable questions that the public and the media have regarding the incident and actions taken thereafter. Instead they've circled the wagons; I think that's made things a lot worse (unless they're actually hiding something really awful).

You've said this a few times. If I'm reading you correctly, I think you're referring to the person who has the absolute right to remain silent. You know, the guy who the entire black population in this country wants arrested immediately.
Wait -- I totally missed this. He thinks Darren Wilson should speak publicly? Or should have spoken publicly?

Ongoing investigation with a homicide would be my assumption. How quickly do those things get released in "typical" homicide situations?

I think the police should pack up and go home...what is the worst that can happen?
Well, they loot unitl there's nothing left to loot then they burn everything to the ground and then stand around with their thumbs up their butts waiting for a handout all the while saying that nobody's helping them.
They can always move to a neighboring city. Plenty of looting and free stuff to be had.....lol

It very well could, and it's far more plausible than your idea. I broke a friend's nose once by simply tossing a flip flop at them (true story). I don't see the word "crush" anywhere when talking about his orbital bones, by the way.

I posted a link before to the incident report in the Eric Garner killing, that was out just a couple days after it happened.

And I'm not saying they have to release it by law- l'm no Missouri FOIA expert). I'm saying that they should in the interest of transparency and serving the community.

Think they are looking for another shooter?

And being realistic and honest, what could it possibly say that would stop the rioting/looting going on?

Fair enough on the "crush" point. And your friend sounds like he's made of glass.

It was a her. Yet another example of people making assumptions before the facts are in and possibly getting the totally wrong idea of the events in question. Don't mean to pick on you, but there seems to be a lot of that going around in this thread.

She was totally fine and didn't need any medical treatment at all, just a little bit of bruising but a definite "broken nose". I'm not a doctor, but a "broken orbital socket" could be something very similar where it's not very severe at all.
