I'm not up on your current position, but do you simultaneously believe that young black men are illegally gunned down in the street by police officers with impunity and have been for decades and that it's not a good enough reason to block traffic?

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at. Freedom is a spectrum, not an absolute. There are few men on this planet that are truly free. Even people in North Korea have the "freedom" to live about their lives under the laws of their state. It's the laws of that state and the degree of punishment for those laws that determines how free you are. And we've been getting less and less free by the year as more and more laws are added with harsher and harsher sentences (and many more blackmailed plea bargins) and more zealous enforcement. It's my opinion that it's got so bad that people are jutified in breaking rules and harming others to fix these problems for the greater good of soceity and our nation.

And this is why the anti-federalists were right in that codifying a Bill of Rights would end up getting twisted legally to mean that is a list of the only rights you have. And the 9th and 10th Amendements obviously have failed in protecting against that. Freedom of Speech is meaningless if no one hears you. Protests sometimes have to get obstructive to point out injustice. And I think comparing getting stuck in traffic to an illegal detention is stretching things. I'm not detained in the gridlock on my ride in to work in the morning. I'm not being detained if I'm waiting in line somewhere and some yahoo makes a scene and holds the line up. And bring on that uncivilized nature if you're going to support this sham of a system that harms millions. I'll give it right back. Somehow other western nations get away with imprisioning a small fraction of the people and aren't wrecked by crime.

It was a concern, but the Anti-Feideralists were overwhelmingly in favor of passing the BoR, IIRC my American History. That was a negotiating tactic to reduce the scope of the Constitution, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyone that thinks blocking a stranger from doing the tasks they set out to do is helping their cause could be brain dead, this isn't complicated .

The video above which shows the black man yelling at the protesters is a perfect example. He might be open to hearing a message, but certainly not when it delays him from getting to work. I'd imagine each and every person who is now sitting in that traffic feels angry like he does. Kudos from discouraging anyone to join you, no matter the cause.

Our high number of per-capita arrests and imprisonment is driven directly by the war on drugs. Based on prior threads, I'm guessing that 95% of the people posting on both sides in this thread agree that our drug policy should be significantly liberalized.

No. I didn't mean, earlier to write that young black men are gunned down all the time. I meant to write that they are treated worse by police, that there is institutionalized racism in this country. Blacks are not, obviously , gunned down with impunity. Sorry about the confusion. Institutionalized racism exists; it's a real problem; I've been making that argument before this incident and will continue to do so. Stopping traffic, however, isn't a smart way to combat it.

Right. The way you doctored the article made it sound as if she was just sitting in her car minding her own business, when all the sudden the police rolled up and started blasting away at her vehicle for no reason.

Right. The way you doctored the article made it sound as if she was just sitting in her car minding her own business, when all the sudden the police rolled up and started blasting away at her vehicle for no reason.

The information you cut out provides a little more context. Turning Michael Brown into a really bad guy is just as wrong, IMO, as turning him into some kind of hero. I think Michael Brown was a stupid thug. But he was only a teenager and his death is a tragedy, because he might have grown up into something better. Who knows?

Everybody seems to want their stories tied into nice neat bows, good and evil. If you believe that Michael Brown was wrongfully killed, then you need Brown to become pristine, a great guy who never did anyone any harm. In this situation, I agree. There's enough evidence that what he did on August 9th is the reason for him getting killed. Previous actions, good or bad, won't change that. It also won't change the mind of anyone who is protesting. They are too dug in.

I guess I don't understand the outrage, she is riding in a car where her boyfriend attempts to run down and kill officers, who are reporting to a shots fired call. They use non lethal force and she is struck In a what is a fluke accident when glass and pellets strike her in the face. There is now an arrest warrant out for her boyfriend I could maybe see if the officers riddled the car with real bullets, people being mad, but come on--how many times does it have to be said, don't try and attack/kill a police officer and do what you are told and you will 99% of the time be okay..

And don't say innocent until proven guilty--read the facts--the officers immediately provided medical attention to the girl and what did the boyfriend, who was obviously so concerned for the welfare of his pregnant girlfriend, do?? He fled the scene, leaving her behind--injured and is now wanted on a $50,000 bond. His actions show he knows he did something wrong.

But let's all try and be mad at the police instead of the person who, had he just done what the cops told him to do, caused this whole event.

Would the same thing have been said about the officer? Would people have looked at this differently if he had a couple excessive force violations on his internal record? And you can bet the first thing the racial antagonists here wanted was a look into the service record.
