M. Vick....QB....STEAL OF YOUR DRAFT! (1 Viewer)

So...I ended up with Vick after waiting on QB, and have managed to talk myself into this being a great idea with huge potential....

But I have an offer to trade him for Romo. I need to do this, right?
I have Romo ranked slightly higher but Vick has a much larger risk/reward. I mean, I can totally see Vick as potential top 5 QB, but Romo is safer.

First and foremost.....

<------ fantasy football stud right here

I think Michael Vick, QB of the Philadelphia Eagles, will be the steal of many people's fantasy football drafts this year. I am seeing him consistently ranked about #15 (and lower) on a lot of QB rank sheets. This is just insane! Here are the pros and cons...

Pros:

1. Still a fantastic athlete. He proved this by beating out Nick Foles in preseason. The guy is still definitely talented. He can throw deep, take off and run for many yards, etc.

2. Great fit for Chip Kelly's new offensive scheme. He won't be running every play but will definitely get his share of rushing yards in this offense. And Chip Kelly's uptempo offense insures that more plays will be ran.....more plays = more chances for more fantasy points.

3. The Eagles offensive line will be much better this year (high draft pick used on tackle Lane Johnson, Jason Peters is back, the center Jason Kelce is healthy again too, etc.). He definitely won't have the kind of pressure on him that he had most of last year.

4. The Eagles defense looks terrible and they will be forced to score points. I can foresee many games where the total score of both teams will be over 50.

Cons:

1. Still has Foles around. No one is sure how short the leash is if Vick struggles in a couple of games.

2. Lost WR Maclin. He still has weapons win DJackson and McCoy, but will need another receiver to STEP UP.

3. Injury risk. Some people here will give me poo for this but I am in the camp that some players are just more injury prone than others. Vick is one of those guys. He has a greater chance of getting hurt at some point this year.

Anyway, I really think Vick has a chance to be a top 5 QB this year and can be drafted outside the top 12 QB's (might not want to wait until #15 to be safe). Also, it's a good idea to draft another QB who's not ranked too far down from Vick (think Eli Manning, C. Palmer, J. Freeman, etc.) just as a back-up in case the doo doo hits the fan.

I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A FANTASTIC FOOTBALL SEASON AND GOD BLESS!!!!! HAVE FUN!!!!!
specifically targeted him and cutler in the 10th and 11th respectively.Vick will produce top 10 QB stats on a ppg basis as long as he is healthy.

After his first preseason game I targeted him even before he was named the starter.

What are the odds Vick plays in 16 games? Sure, on a PPG basis, he could be amazing. But come playoff time, I'm not sure he is on the field either b/c of injury or Foles/Barkley getting a shot.

Not a terrible guy to have but I'm not going to explicitly target him. If I don't go QB early, he obviously has upside over his ADP but targeting him over safer guys is essentially tying most or all of your season to Vick's wagon.

Unless you're in a 14 team league or 2QB league, there is no reason Vick should be your starter with good QBs 12 deep this year.

Vick was the ticket to a championship a couple of years ago when he was a late round pick... same thing is going to happen this season... Vick is going to be the Numero Uno #1 Rushing QB this year... Ride those legs to the Playoffs

Considering he's played a full season only one time in his 10 year playing career, the odds of him not getting hurt are slim to none. Especially with this offense where he's going to take his hits, and defenses will key on hitting the QB every chance they can in these offenses and it would be a miracle if he plays all 16.

As long as you understand that, then go ahead and draft him, but you better be prepared to have a good backup ready to go. I would go the other way and back him up to a solid starter, rather than relying on him as my number 1 from the jump. If anything he could always be used as trade bait for someone in need.

Here's a reason: You waited too long, and a couple teams got grabby with Romo and Wilson, and you were left staring at Eli, Vick, Big Ben. Boom, Vick is starting.

Yeah, if I lose my shot at Romo or Wilson, Im taking Vick over anyone else left and then backing him up with my next pick or the pick after that with a solid QB (Eli, Dalton) or if theyre gone wait a little longer for Schaub, Cutler, or Freeman.

Romo is definitely my target though (or possibly Kaepernicus or Stafford if they slide a little earlier) and then go after Vick as my backup.

Same strategy here. Would love Romo with Vick as my #2. But I'd be content with Vick as my #1.

This is it for me. was planning on going Wilson, but someone reached big time so I waited two more rounds and took Vick then two other people took QBs so I went Schaub. It allowed me to stack up and hope that Vick can be as good as he was a couple years back. I think he has a good start in him.

I play in a 15-team, PPR, 4 points for passing TD, 6 points all other TDs....

drafted Mike Vick as my #1 and Sam Bradford as my backup. I'm pretty high on Bradford this year, so I think this combo could be deadly.

Took him in a keeper league where I was set at RB, WR and TE. Also paired him with Bradford and added Rivers. QBBC here i come!

Just drafted Romo in the 7th rd in a 10 teamer, 6 pt passing league and gonna follow up with with Vick in the 8th.

That's how you do it boys.

Just based on the preseason, Vick seemed to stay in the pocket more and wait for things to develop. He's been around long enough to learn he doesn't need to throw himself into danger too often IMO.

I also ended up with Vick and Bradford as my only QBs (12 team, start 2 QB league).

Only QBs left on the WW are Pryor, Gabbert, and Sanchez. :X

Pairing him with Dalton and Cutler. Couldn't be happier.

Kind of surprised at all the love for the Wilson/Kap/RG3/Luck quartet. Kind of got the feeling that a bunch of veterans (Eli/Ben/Flacco/Schaub/Dalton/Cutler/) are going to outperform 3 out of 4 of the "New Blood". Lotta wagons hitched to young QB Stars.

Funny.

I don't understand the logic of burning a fairly high pick on a Romo or whoever, and then backing him up with Vick, if the thinking is that if Vick stays healthy, he's your starter anyway.

Use the leverage you believe you have in taking a high-value starting QB in the mid-to-late rounds by stocking up on studs at other positions. That's the only way to get value from the position if you think you can get a steal. Then back him up with a high-upside, low-risk guy people are lukewarm on for whatever reason. There are a ton of those in the endgame this year. Personal favorites include Bradford, Cutler, Palmer, Rivers, and Alex Smith. But there are more that belong in the discussion.

Does it really matter if you're getting a 5th round value in Vick in the 10th, if to get him you're spending a 7th or 8th AND a 10th on the position?

With all the hype of the extra plays/game that the Eagles are supposed to have, shouldn't this benefit Vick? Or does it just mean that there are more plays, but shorter than normal. Or does it mean possibly ~two extra full possessions.

Never had Vick on my team. I was the last team to draft a QB today and ~14 QB's were taken before I grabbed Vick. Ended up taking Vick at 10.01 (actually the 11th round because it is a keep 1 league). Then, I thought about going into the season with only him at QB and because he has a week 12 bye (lots of time to find a backup) but with the Mr. Irrelevant pick, I picked Josh Freeman.

Funny.
Hilarious!

If you're drafting Vick on the assumption that he's learned anything from his experiences, you're drafting him for the wrong reason.

This is the guy who was gushing about how Kelly taught him to hold the football to avoid fumbles.

Vick is getting hit often tonight against the redskins. I don't want to see him get hurt, but he is holding the ball too long on passing plays and taking shots every time he runs the ball. He has been sacked once, knocked down 3 times on passes, and has taken a couple hits on his three runs.....all in the first quarter. Those will add up quickly.

:hifive: good job August bagger!

this is true. He does need to get rid of the ball quicker. But for a round 10 QB in early august when i drafted if I can get top 5 QB production for 8-10 weeks that is worth it.

I should add, so do most QBs though especially if mobile.

Vick is my QB1 in a 16-team league. I wanted Romo but just missed him by a few picks. I got Weeden as the backup though.

Would Foles put up good numbers in this offense? I should probably add him soon.

Starter in one. Backup in two. Snipes in other.

If I sell I am waiting for a market to develop.

I didn't draft Vick. I drafted Chip:

Cool dude. Keep us updated on your fantasy leagues. It's riveting.

Picking up Vick in this offense coupled with let's say Eli will make many benefactors quite happy. You get high reward along with stability. Plus it's a strong possibility I believe that E. Manning could be golden this season if the backfield remains a debacle.

Sell high to the suckers
nah. like i said before, give me top 10 qb production on a ppg basis for 8-10 games and i can fill in the gaps with cutler or maybe even grab foles before an injury but not really a fan of rostering 3 qbs. vick got 31 points last night and pretty much just handed the ball off the entire 2nd half. vick is going to be the sotd given his adp and his production on a ppg basis, which is all that matter.all of the naysayers slamming mvick and shady saying they will get hurt as if no other nfl player has that risk.

the one thing i took away from last night was how happy all of the players looked. i dont remember seeing a nfl team have that much fun in a long time if ever.

McCoy agrees:

“We have a new coach, he’s from college, and everyone wants to know how his style of offense is going to work in the NFL. Everybody’s curious,” said McCoy. “We’re learning as this thing goes. Coach Kelly is new to us and we’re new to him and we’re working so well together. Everything he’s asked us to do, we’re doing. He’s a great coach. Today is the first time that I think a lot of the guys in the locker room had like fun. We couldn’t wait to get back out there and have fun.”

And a quote from Kelly (same link):

“We’ve said since Day 1, it’s a game. It doesn’t have to be run like a business. And we don’t run our practices like a business, we don’t run our training sessions like a business. We’ve got a bunch of guys who are excited to be at work every single day, and they make us as coaches make sure that we come to work every day ready for them, because these guys are going to challenge you in the meeting room from an x’s and o’s standpoint because they are so knowledgeable about the game. It keeps us sharp, it keeps them sharp, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a real good group to be around.”

A trade tonight got accepted in my league, Vick for Golden Tate. While the Vick owner also has Russell Wilson, trading Vick for Tate - even considering Vick's injury risk - seems like giving up Vick for way too little to me. I almost want to veto it, but I doubt there will be enough votes anyway, and the guy getting Vick had by far the worst points in week 1.

That trade is garbage.

Pardon my declaratives tonight, but there seems to be an awful amount of fauxhawk #### in the shark pool today.
