Non-sarcastic answer: have you seen Mickey Rourke interviewed? There is very little difference between Mickey Rourke and his character in The Wrestler. That is not the case with John Hamm and Don Draper.

Yes I have, even crazier in interviews than his films. Have you seen Harrison Ford interviewed? Robert DeNiro? They have less personality than a tree.
I actually disagree with you about Hamm, if you listen to his podcasts with Bill Simmons he comes across as a regular, personable guy who loves his Cardinals.

There's a great part on the Season One DVD. Hamm and Slattery are doing the commentary. There's a scene where Draper is looking at a paper very seriously. He brow is furrowed. Slattery says "Oh look at that." Hamm says "Shhh...I'm acting."

DeNiro was very flat on Inside the Actor's Studio. I agree. Though I'd chalk that up to him being kinda shy and aloof and uncomfortable. I didn't say that Hamm wasn't a nice guy. He comes across as very mellow and genuine. I just said that he isn't the super suave dude that he portrays so well on the show.

Oh please. Last week I was at Kohl's and I this shirt I was buying didn't ring up as the sales price. The chick at the register was trying to tell me that I might have been mistaken about it being on sale. I reached over and jammed my hand up her skirt. Needless to say I did not pay full price for that shirt.

I don't know if there was more cheating going on back then in general. I think it has more to do with the type of people the show focuses on...men that have too much money, too much freedom, and too much ego. Replace ad-men in the 50s-60s with Wall Street guys in the 80s-90s and you'll probably see the same thing.Dunno if this has been mentioned, but January Jones is kinda purty.

Decent article in the Houston Chronicle today about Mad Men and their research re Conrad Hilton. Hilton's Hotel and Restaurant Mgmt school at UH is one of the best in the business.

Lying on her fainting couch, she envisioned a romantic affair. When it came down to it and he wanted her on the desk of his office, she woke up out of the fantasy and went back to real life. In the pitch meeting with Draper and Hilton, the first time Hilton mentions "the moon" I thought Hilton was nuts. The second time, it felt more metaphorical - like "give me the the best ad campaign you have," as in "give me the moon."

I'm sure it was. People like Hilton don't build their empires by being nice. Rather they manipulate people. That's exactly what he was doing with Don. Just like calling Don at home in the middle of the night. At the meeting, Connie was just letting everyone know who is in charge.
