Mad Men on AMC (2 Viewers)

Have we talked about this already? I am amazed at how much acting on this show is non-verbal. Just look at Don and Betty's non-verbal interaction. Phenomenal.
Hamm is great at that. In the last EP Francine the neighbor says something to Don in the kitchen about being tired from their trip to Rome (alluding to them having lots of sex). Don gives her this great look like 'really?'
Exactly. And the more Hamm interviews I see, the more I appreciate his acting. He doesn't come across as charismatic at all in his interviews. I don't mean he's a schlub, but his actual personality seems a lot different than Draper's.
That's called "acting".
Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Non-sarcastic answer: have you seen Mickey Rourke interviewed? There is very little difference between Mickey Rourke and his character in The Wrestler. That is not the case with John Hamm and Don Draper.

Yes I have, even crazier in interviews than his films. Have you seen Harrison Ford interviewed? Robert DeNiro? They have less personality than a tree.

I actually disagree with you about Hamm, if you listen to his podcasts with Bill Simmons he comes across as a regular, personable guy who loves his Cardinals.

There's a great part on the Season One DVD. Hamm and Slattery are doing the commentary. There's a scene where Draper is looking at a paper very seriously. He brow is furrowed. Slattery says "Oh look at that." Hamm says "Shhh...I'm acting."

DeNiro was very flat on Inside the Actor's Studio. I agree. Though I'd chalk that up to him being kinda shy and aloof and uncomfortable. I didn't say that Hamm wasn't a nice guy. He comes across as very mellow and genuine. I just said that he isn't the super suave dude that he portrays so well on the show.

Nobody is as suave as Draper in real life.

Oh please. Last week I was at Kohl's and I this shirt I was buying didn't ring up as the sales price. The chick at the register was trying to tell me that I might have been mistaken about it being on sale. I reached over and jammed my hand up her skirt. Needless to say I did not pay full price for that shirt.

Same look he gave the teacher when she was trying to convince him (and herself) that he was flirting with her.
I'd have loved it if Don grabbed the teacher by the hoo-hah and said "I'm not flirting with you."

After the first episode of this season, I'd figured that Don's feelings towards Sal (and homosexuals in general) would be laissez faire. Guess not.

He was but then said "you people" as in "If I was you and a chick (client) hit on me and what it took to make her happy and keep account was to bang her I would" yet Sal said his client was a bully.

Yes, Walton. That's why I said "guess not."

Interesting to see Draper being put through the ringer again this season. Cooper and the contract and now Hilton and his bat-crap demands.

Dunno if this has been mentioned, but January Jones is kinda purty.

Lotta cheating going on in the 60's, eh? I'd be shocked if either of my parents messed around, but who knows.

I don't know if there was more cheating going on back then in general. I think it has more to do with the type of people the show focuses on...men that have too much money, too much freedom, and too much ego. Replace ad-men in the 50s-60s with Wall Street guys in the 80s-90s and you'll probably see the same thing.

Why do you think Betty gave Henry a little taste in his office, then walked out leaving him with a bulge? Was that her way of showing him she's in charge after still being pissed that he didn't show up at the house?

Could be. Betty is tough to figure out. I think she's just nuts.

Hot crazy chicks do it for me.

Good to see Don go back to old form and take down the teach....on another note, read Joan just got married in real life. What I would do to have those hips for just one night.

 She was making it clear she is the object of desire and will not be doing the chasing.

I felt bad for Sal. Poor guy. I wonder how they're going to work in him and Joan now that they're gone or if they'll just be passive characters going forward. I think both characters add a lot to the show so I hope they keep them around.

They may just fade them out. People come and go. :goodposting:

Odds that Hamm has hammered Miss Jones IRL?

JH: "You know, we should work on our off-screen chemistry if we want to have on-screen chemistry."

JJ: :lmao: "But our characters HAVE no chemistry."

I don't think so. That would mean Henry will come back to her and they will do it. I think this is the end of Henry and Betty, before it even began. Lying on her fainting couch, she envisioned a romantic affair. When it came down to it and he wanted her on the desk of his office, she woke up out of the fantasy and went back to real life. Henry isn't getting another chance.

Interesting, and somewhat disconcerting. If they're just going to rehash old storylines, this season could become a wash. I'm hoping that isn't the case.

In the pitch meeting with Draper and Hilton, the first time Hilton mentions "the moon" I thought Hilton was nuts. The second time, it felt more metaphorical - like "give me the the best ad campaign you have," as in "give me the moon."

I'm sure it was. People like Hilton don't build their empires by being nice. Rather they manipulate people. That's exactly what he was doing with Don. Just like calling Don at home in the middle of the night. At the meeting, Connie was just letting everyone know who is in charge.
