I love this thread title.
:goodposting: My pee sometimes goes to the left after sex.
Just to be clear, it wasn't me saying he couldn't throw to his left, I was just quoting Mike Lombardi, or whatever his name is. However, I will admit that we were all wrong with Peyton Manning impending doom. With the they way a lot of people were talking in the media about Manning, it's easy to see why so many (me included) thought he was done. As a Peyton Manning fan I am so glad that wasn't the case and would love to see him win the Super Bowl. What a great story that would be.
Not everyone was wrong.
:goodposting: And even those who were wrong weren't so dramatic in their "Hey look at me, I'm not a doctor but he can't throw to his left" about it.
You act as if I'm the only one that thought Manning was high risk and possibly done. I'm very happy that he's playing and playing well. There aren't too many who like Peyton Manning more than I do. So keep piling on if you want to, but in the OP I posted what Mike Lombardi said and I also agreed there could be something to it. I'm not alone in this thinking.
Here's a tip, JU: When you're wrong, just say that you were wrong. That's it. Don't add on to qualify that everyone else was wrong, too. Don't say "Don't shoot the messenger, Mike Lombardi told me to post this over on FBGs." This is just a life axiom, when you're wrong, say "my bad" and move on.
Ok, I'm WRONG !! and thankful for it. Peyton Manning is my favorite player of all time.

The Colts are more than a couple of pieces away from title contention. They played the easiest schedule in the league and still put up a -42 point differential. SRS (which is margin of victory + strength of schedule) rates them as the 26th best team in the league. Brian Burke at Advanced NFL stats has them 27th. Football Outsiders has them 28th. Peyton Manning and an extra rookie or two wouldn't be enough to get that team competitive with the real title contenders. Just look at their schedule and results. They lost by 55 combined to the Bears and Pats, 12 to a reeling Texans squad, and also threw up a home loss to the 2-13 Jaguars and a 26 point drubbing by the Jets. Meanwhile, who have they beaten? A 3 point win against Minny is a solid (if unspectacular) win, and the 3 point win against Green Bay is an awesome win, but both of those were at home and the latter was the infamous Chuckstrong game. They beat a bad Browns squad by 4, got taken to overtime by a bad Tennessee squad, beat an average Dolphins squad by 3 at home, touchdown wins against the Bills and Chiefs, a 2 point win against the reeling Lions, and a 4 point win against the Titans. The one (1) game Indy has win by more than a TD all season long was a 17 point win against the post-MJD Jags (with whom Indy split the season series). They just became the first team in half a decade to give up 350 rushing yards, to the worst team in the league no less, as they almost choked away a chance to clinch a playoff berth. Ignore the record and look at the games. What about any of these games suggests Indy is a good team?
I am not disagreeing with your basis premise, but I think it is unfair to pick at some of their wins, which were impressive at the time. Often times, it is merely a case of when you play someone. Saying they "beat an average Dolphins squad by 3 at home" is ignoring the fact that the Dolphins had won three in a row prior to that.

That 2 point win over the reeling Lions came right after the Lions came thisclose to beating both Green Bay and Houston as well.

Cleveland might have a bad record, but they have been competitive and a "tough out" in almost every game this year (before last week's drubbing by the Broncos). Following an 0-5 start, Cleveland is 5-5 since. Plus, when the Colts beat the Browns, Cleveland was coming off a win over playoff-bound Cincinnati.

Like I said, I agree that the Colts aren't as good a team as their record indicates, but I just think you have to look at when you play a team a lot of the time. I mean, if you just look at their 5-10 record, Arizona's wins over Seattle and New England could be considered embarrassing for those two teams. but they happened when Arizona was playing well. The ebb and flow of the NFL season sure can be a funny thing. ;)

Their isn't any hard-fast protocol to responding to threads.

The point of bringing this back wasn't to hold anyone's feet to the fire but to point out that the group-think that Peyton was done or would be severely impacted and never be the same wasn't wrong but to point out that Peyton Manning is fine and way back in February when a couple of people stood up and said that they felt Manning would come back and be alright but got reamed and were chided and asked pointedly if we had a medical background etc. Basically a take that went against the ground-think wasn't tolerated so I wasn't trying to create a group-think to chide anyone who had a different take last February. The point is to allow different view points and this is a good thread to point out how valuable an opposing view point can be.

Also it will be interesting to see what Manning will do in the post season and how far he goes and compare it to Luck and RG III.

I think that comparison is a bit tough, since the team makeups are drastically different.

I can buy this argument to an extent when it comes to player injuries. Arizona was an objectively better team when they beat Seattle- they had Kolb at the time, and their defense hadn't yet been worn to a nub. Short of some objective reason why a team might be better or worse, though, I put no stock in record in surrounding games as a measure of team quality. Is Houston a worse team recently, or did they just play 3 straight playoff teams? Was the Baltimore team Denver whipped "trending down" because it was their third straight loss? Because if so, you might want to tell that to the Giants. Any argument about timing is irrelevant in the face of certain basic facts, though. Indy had the easiest schedule in the league by a decent amount, according to SRS. More than half of their games have come against the bottom 25% of the league according to draft position (games against picks 1, 2, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8). In 15 games, the only team Indy beat by more than 7 points was the 2-13 Jags (who were worse than their record indicated, because this was post-MJD). Indy is 9-1 in one score games. Given that record in 1-score games has historically been random (nobody has demonstrated a sustained ability to post a winning record in one-score games, the best teams instead demonstrate an ability to avoid them entirely by blowing the other guy out), that's a fluke that inflates Indy's record without improving their quality. If they had gone 5-5 in those games, instead, they'd be 6-9 right now, which would be much more in line with the actual quality of this team.

Bracie, I think you and I see eye to eye. The group think on Peyton Manning was out of control. Peyton went to the best doctors that money can buy and was cleared to play. Irsay and the Colts would not let him pass a simple physical and continued the "nerve regeneration" bull as an excuse to:1: decline his bonus and;

2: force Peyton Manning into moving back the contractual date on his bonus payment outlined in this thread.

Does anyone think that Peyton would be in Denver if he had moved his bonus deadline beyond the trade deadline? Peyton would have ended up as a Jaguar and the Colts would have at least a first round pick for it. Jason Cole's story that I pointed to in this thread was a red flag for members of this board not to follow the group think on this one. Sports media is abusing their ability to use the "anonymous source". The anonymous source was clearly one of Irsay's lackeys and a large portion of this board and the nation fell for it.

I never posted in this thread because I tried to slow down the group think here and here and here and here and here.

Indentikit, placebo, Bracie and a few others - way to go. Peyton Manning is rock star and Jim Irsay is a jackhole.

I feel good about 15 more years of Andrew Luck. The Colts couldn't have "lucked" into a better situation. Win / Win for everyone IMO. I would love to see Manning win another SB.

The Colts made the right move IMO with Luck, but that is missing the point(s).1. Irsay is a jackhole for treating Manning like he did on his way out.2. Jason Cole should be fired for printing Irsay's lackeys misinformation.3. The sheep of the world need to have a better sensor when it comes to agendas on the internet.

Have we seen the last of Peyton Manning as a player?

The Denver Post reports Peyton Manning aggravated his plantar fasciitis Week 9 against the Colts.
Manning reportedly began experiencing pain two weeks ago, and he injured the foot further on the turf at Lucas Oil Stadium. Coach Gary Kubiak has said Manning will remain the starter if he is healthy, but the only way to recover from this injury is rest. It looks like there is a real chance Brock Osweiler starts this week against the Bears. Osweiler needs to be added in two-quarterback formats.

If sure sounds like they are finding a way to put Manning out to pasture with some of his dignity left.

To his theme song for nationwide...

"now my foot it hurts so bad"

"haven't looked this old before"

"at least I still own papa johns"

"you're better off with 'skinny legs'"

"I wished I'd used deflated balls"

"at least I'm better than nick foles"

"you'd still start me if I were Tom"

"I'm just in my playoff form"

In reality it's a sad time as he truly has been a great ambassador for the game... Sad to see things go down like this

I will not fault one of the greatest ever for trying to make it one more year than he should have. A guy like Manning wouldnt have done it any other way. He has not played well, but we should be privileged to have watch him play the game of football so great for so long.

He may be playing bad right now, but with the game on the line, I would rather have him over half the QBs in the league. The mind game is too powerful of a factor. I wish he was healthy, he would not be playing like this. He is old, he is hanging up after this year.

payton the automaton is so good at football that if he decided to not even use his hands and just sort of shrug throw and knee the ball around he would be better than kolin crapernickle so listen all you guys saying he should hang it up well there aint never been a bronco that cant be rode and there aint never been a cowboy that cant be throwed just think about that for a little while and have pickle with crappernickle while you take that to the bank

I marvel at what Peyton Manning has done since he had nerve damage and many felt he would never play again.

Some of the greatest single season production from the QB position and two Super Bowl appearances.
