Matt Ryan named offensive ROY (1 Viewer)

Buffaloes

Footballguy
per NFL.com:

44 votes for Ryan

3 for CJ3

2 for Clady

1 for Forte

Glad to see Clady got a little bit of love from voters.

Makes sense, don't think Ryan was that much better or more important than the other rookies, but those four plus Slaton and a few I'm probably forgeting to mention deserve props as well. Forte was the Bears offense this season, absolutely carried the load for a winning team, should have got more than 1 vote, but this is pretty meaningless anyway...

Lots of good players from this year's draft, particularly o-linemen. Clady and Jake Long are studs. Branden Albert and Sam Baker would have had a better showings but for injury. Duane Brown, the "Who?" pick of the draft started every game.

Otherwise, Dustin Keller, Jerod Mayo, and Jon Stewart were some other good 1st rounders.

I think Matt Ryan deserved the award though.

Taking a quick look at the first round, there weren't many rookies who are on the "bust line". It's too early to call anyone a bust of course, but it looks like there's at most 10 who could even be considered disappointing.

I like the pick, but am suprised that NO ONE vote for Flacco?
I'm a little surprised, but only because I don't have any faith in the voters.Gratuitous Ryan link: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=799

Easily a top three rookie QB season of all time, and IMO probably the best season by any rookie QB. Flacco was nice, and top ten all time good, but not on Ryan's level. Ryan was an amazing rookie QB and a very, very good NFL QB; Flacco was a great rookie QB and an average NFL QB.

Ryan and Flacco were pretty darn close IMO:

That's FPs.

I think part of it was that Ryan walked into a way more diseased situation than Flacco did.
I think all of it was that Ryan was very good and Flacco was average. Flacco's numbers were worse in every possible way.Yards: Ryan - 13th; Flacco - 20th

Touchdowns: Ryan - 16th; Flacco - 20th

Interceptions: Ryan - 16th; Flacco - 11th

Yards/attempt: Ryan - 4th; Flacco - 19th

QB Rating: Ryan - 11th; Flacco - 22nd

Sacks - Ryan - 27th; Flacco - 8th

Adjusted net yards per pass attempt: Ryan - 4th; Flacco - 22nd.

NOT HAPPY: Titans running back Chris Johnson said Wednesday that if players voted for Offensive Rookie of the Year, he believes that he, not Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, would have won the award.

The award is voted upon by a panel of 50 media members from across the nation and is overseen by the Associated Press. Ryan received 44 votes, while Johnson, the runner-up, received just three votes.

“Of course, it would have been different,” Johnson said. “I had the most votes of any rookie [for the Pro Bowl], more than Matt Ryan. I’m the only one that made it to the Pro Bowl out of all the rookies.”

Pro Bowl balloting is done in thirds, with fan vote, player vote and coaches votes each counting one-third in the process.

“He’s a good player, and he played quarterback and did a good job this year,” Johnson said of Ryan, who guided the Falcons to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth. “But the whole thing is bogus, because people are voting for it that are not on the same field as the people who are playing.

“I’m disappointed. I did all I could to win it. I feel I did the best. I feel I did all I could do to win it; it just didn’t come my way.”

Ryan threw for 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, posting 3,440 yards and an 87.7 passer rating.

Johnson rushed for 1,228 yards and nine touchdowns for the Titans.

At least one Titans teammate agrees that Johnson should have been the winner.

“He’s the only rookie going to the Pro Bowl, so he’s got to be the Rookie of the Year,” tight end Bo Scaife said. “And we’ve got the best record in the NFL. Chris Johnson has got my vote. I’m sure if they left it up to the players, Chris Johnson would get most of the votes.”

LOL at the pro bowl meaning anything of substance. Ryan would have had to beat out guys like Brees and Warner to make it in the NFC, anyway.Chris Johnson is 100 kinds of awesome, but he's a victim of numbers here -- lots of running backs come in and do the job from day one. Nobody's done what Ryan has done, for the most part. There's a degree of difficulty factored into the voting at QB, like it or not.

The only solution would of been Co-ROY. I don't see a real loser in any event. Both guys are current & future All-Pros. They should get Lendale's comments. Afterall, he made this fraud have a good fantasy season. Probably the largest (no pun) coattail riding to fantasy value ever.

I don't know who the 3rd NFC QB behind Brees/Warner was (presume Eli), but I would of taken Ryan over him.

the voting wasn't close. Ryan is the clear winner.

Bear fans could argue Forte over Johnson. Time to give Matt his due.

Johnson mustn't have noticed Slaton, either. Confidence is nice, but petulance isn't.

The quotes are only "eh" in that article. Most of the text is the author's comments. Clip it all together and I think what he said is fine. “I had the most votes of any rookie [for the Pro Bowl], more than Matt Ryan. I’m the only one that made it to the Pro Bowl out of all the rookies.”“He’s a good player, and he played quarterback and did a good job this year,” “I’m disappointed. I did all I could to win it. Ryan at least had a good WR to throw to, Flacco had nothing.

Has Otah really been this good? As an eagles fan, I thought that was a solid deal at the time. While it didn't work out as well as I'd hoped, it still looks like the birds got a good deal - a 1st rounder in 09 a few spots lower and a 2nd and a 4th in 08. He's a RT, correct? Stats say the panthers have been more effective going right - could this mean Gross won't be back?

Sorry for jumping off topic but didn't think this was big enough for yet another thread.
