Matt Schaub Week 8 Injury Update (1 Viewer)

Given how it's been three games since he last threw a touchdown pass I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news for the Texans.

From RotoWorld:

Matt Schaub came out of Sunday's game with a sore back and hip, but is expected to play against the Chargers in Week 8.

Schaub didn't say he had an ankle injury, as was reported early Sunday. The Houston Chronicle reports that that there is no QB controversy despite Sage Rosenfels' impressive fourth-quarter comeback effort Sunday. Schaub gets a mediocre matchup at San Diego, but may have Andre Johnson back.

Update from RotoWorld:

Matt Schaub hurt his ankle, hip and lower back on Sunday and is "beat up" according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

X-rays on the leg injury were negative and he was scheduled to undergo an MRI but no results have been made public. The real concern is the hip injury, and Schaub’s status for Week 8 at San Diego is currently uncertain. Sage Rosenfels would take over in the event that Schaub is forced to miss a game. Monitor the situation during the week.

Did anyone else notice that Schaub had his helmet on on the sidelines? I have a feeling this guy is such a gamer that if he is cleared to play medically, he will definitely play. That being said, Rosenfels courage and the chance to let Schaub mend for a few weeks leading into the week 10 bye might be enough reason for the coaching staff to rest him.

He's definitely a gamer. I like him quite a bit but there's no denying his play has been regressing. Rosenfels has gotten the team into the end zone in each of the past two games - something Schaub hasn't done in three games - and came very close to leading the team to an incredible come-from-behind victory. I don't think there should be a QB controversy there but I do think a strong argument can be made that Schaub should be sat through the bye and Rosenfels start to see if he can continue to provide a spark that Schaub has been failing to provide.

no way there's a QB controversy here - no disrespect to Sage, but he's been doing it vs. prevent defenses, and he's not really running the offense, he's dumping off a lot, and freewheeling, like he did on the almost game winner yesterday.

Which is still more than Schaub has been doing the past three games. Rosenfels struggled badly to start yesterday but he regrouped and he clearly provided a spark. Again, I like Schaub a lot and I agree there's no way there should be a QB controversy. But this team has been in a funk for weeks now and Schaub's been part of the problem. He needs to start playing much better than he has been of late.

So what's the latest? Although he is likely not the starting QB for most, he is likely a #2 and bye week fill in and I am sure there are several of us (myself included) who need him for week #8. Any and all updates are appreciated.

Is he regressing, or was he just playing over his head earlier this season? All in all, the guy has been pretty impressive. Keep in mind he's been without most of his offensive weapons for much of the season.Personally, I think he's done a very fine job leading this team and should only get better.

Monday night update from RotoWorld:

X-rays on Matt Schaub's hip returned negative and he is considered day to day.

Coach Gary Kubiak says Schaub has a "real bad bruise" on his hip, a sore lower left leg, and is "moving around very, very slowly." Schaub is likely to be limited in practice early this week, although indications are that he'll start in Week 8 against San Diego. If not, Sage Rosenfels will get the nod.

Related: Sage Rosenfels

I don't have a link yet, but Schaub practice on Wednesday and took more snaps than expected. Still no word on status though.

BTW, be very careful about the Texans and injuires (they are not trustworthy)...see Andre Johnson maybe five weeks turning into 2 months and Jacoby jones suiting up for two weeks and really not being able to make any significant contribution...You have been warned.

Probably will be Friday before we really know what his staus and probability of playing is. I sure hope he plays, as I have him, Garrard (out), and Romo (bye) in the FBG subscriber contest.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

Texans' Schaub set to playWire ReportsThe Houston Texans are still unsure if Matt Schaub will be healthy enough to start this weekend's game against San Diego.Even if he's not, he'll be active against the San Diego Chargers as a backup to Sage Rosenfels because Houston's only other quarterback, Shane Boyd, is a practice squad player signed Wednesday."Matt will be ready to play," coach Gary Kubiak said. "The question for me is whether or not I think he's ready to start the game and play the whole game and whether he plays or whether he backs up Sage."
I'm curious why Schaub wasn't listed at all in last night's players in the news email? The above helps, but it doesn't indicate how much he practiced yesterday.
