Matt Schaub (1 Viewer)

OK, please give me your opinions. I've had McNabb, he's now on his bye week and I'm probably dumping him anyway. I don't have a backup (there's only four players allowed on my bench) so Im looking at Schaub, who's on the wwaiver wire. I could also take Derek Anderson or Trent Green. But Schaub's been pretty consistent so far. Do you think he will stay productive?

Appreciate the feedback.

Schaub is for real. He's done it the last two games without his #1 RB and #1 WR. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite QBs in the league.

I'm really excited about this kid's future. Only 26, he's got nice weapons in Johnson, Daniels, J Jones and Green, and I like Kubiak as a coach a lot. This team is really close to turning the corner. In keeper/dynasty, Schaub is grossly undervalued right now.

I posted this thread two weeks ago. I was confident then that based on what I'd seen from Schaub he'd do better than people were expecting without Andre Johnson. And so far he has. What I like about him is his poise and calm in the pocket but he also has the intangible of being able to raise the level of play of the players around him. Even though he's lost Johnson, Green and Jones, he hasn't missed a beat. The only thing missing is a breakout game - a 2/3-TD type of performance. He's been steady for four weeks but hasn't really busted out with a huge game yet. I think that's going to happen real soon. He's too good in my opinion for it not to happen soon.

As a Texans' fan I couldn't be more pleased. The guy is a gamer who single-handedly kept us alive last week while the rest of the team played like ####. Ron Dayne was terrible in short yardage (and pretty ineffective overall except for one big run) and the defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. It was pretty amazing watching him keep us alive without Andre Johnson, Jacoby Jones, and Ahman Green. I'm very impressed with what I've seen out of him so far...

There are times when he makes some obvious rookie/1st year starter type mistakes, but those mistakes are few and far between and much less often than I think anyone predicted. Andre going down may be the best possible thing for his development as he'll be forced to learn to use other WR/TE's and hopefully build some rapport or trust with them. One thing I didn't like early on in the preseason and the 1st 2 games was that Schaub seemed to be forcing too many passes AJ's way.

The early return's on Schaub are looking very nice so far.

I got homeboy as my 10th round keeper in one league, excited to see what he can do with AJ, AD, AG, and ODaniels all up to speed. Plus the D is doing well, he wont have to gamble much, even though he doesnt throw many picks. Schaub is saving me from a Mark Bulger draft disaster.

Why wouldn't it? You've got a kid that lost both his #1 and, arguably, #2 receiver right off the bat and still produced. I am very impressed with his composure.

:excited:

Will his production stay consistent?

Of course not. Inconsistency is largely what makes second-tier QBs second-tier.

That said, he ought to be as consistent as anyone in his class.

 I thought he was an over-rated player who took the popularity of being the backup and cashed in with Houston. Boy, was I wrong. His current receiving corps makes New England's in 2006 look like Cincinnati's. But he's making good decisions and somehow keeping them in games they shouldn't be in. They'd be 0-4 without him. Jeff Garcia has done similar things in Tampa. The difference between them in 2006 and now is night and day. Suddenly, the defense gets to rest and looks better, the receivers are blocking downfield better and the team has a new attitude. I'm a believer in both of these guys now.
