McDonald's year over year sales were terrible. How would you fix (2 Viewers)

They have a double cheeseburger and small fri for $2.50. That's more like it. Add a $1 drink and you've got a meal for under $4. How it should have always been.

Has anyone in the New England area had the lobster roll? On the menu for a limited time for $7.99.
I've seen pretty decent reviews about that. "McDonalds Lobster" doesn't sound very enticing, but I guess it's actually not bad.
So not even McDonalds can screw up lobster, mayo, and a roll?
That's until they figure out how to squeeze an extra nickel profit from fine grinding the shells and adding that to the preformed lobster shaped meat.Give them time.

McDonald's has too many things on the menu. If you look at what is doing well now, it's having a few really good things instead of a lot of mediocrity. They have such a bad reputation. And there food really doesn't taste that great. They seem to be caught in the middle of trying to decide if they want to be the cheap fast food place or a more quality one. I think either model would work, but they need to pick one and model their business around it.

Poor bastards are trying anything...

But it's not going to stop this sinking ship until they blow it up and start over like Jack in the Box did.

No one trusts this "food" anymore..

They experimented with and modified the ingredients so much for so long that it just can't be trusted.

Can any of you get that pink slime image out of your head? Honestly...that's something that sticks for generations.

Heads gotta roll...they gotta close hundreds of "restaurants" and just start over from scratch with real ingredients.

That's the only shot they have.

I'd say this is a BIT of an overreaction. Still a massive company.

Yeah, they need to make changes, but this isn't Jack in the Box we are talking about.

The epitome of corporate America and end result of Gordon Gekko.

that's funny I mostly like McD's for their lunch/dinner options. if I'm eating fast food for breakfast it's definitely going to be Chick-fil-A

If I need fast food breakfast I go with Burger King, never eat lunch or dinner there.

I worked at McDonald's in my younger days (admittedly a little bit ago) and we had to changeover everything in the kitchen when we transitioned from breakfast to lunch/dinner. I wonder how they'll manage to make everything all day?

Has it been proposed that they start doing breakfast all day?

McDonalds actually has good breakfast. However, the rest of the menu is garbage. I refuse to believe that the "beef" they use is authentic.

Oh, and the nuggets are pretty good.

In my partying days, I would have killed people for the chance at a sausage mcmuffin at 3am.
Dude, I can't even remember the amount of times we would try to go to McD's while drunk in college and get breakfast. If this was 10 years ago, I'd be stoked.

I've noticed AM/PM has replaced McDonalds for the fast food people.

AM/PM has a tiny kitchen in the back. They whip up stacks of sausage / ham croissants, sausage / ham muffins, hot dogs, and burgers. They throw them into foil wrappers and stick them in a self-serve warmer. They charge $1-$2 per item. They can't keep them stocked fast enough. People grab them out of there, pay for their gas, and are gone in under a minute.

I'm not sure what McDonalds has to offer to compete with that.

I'm guessing they have marketing and a nationwide presence, because I've never heard of that place.

heard on the radio that some locations might have to remove certain menu items to make room for the all-day breakfast needs in the kitchen, but they didn't allude to what might be removed, so that may have just been referring to some of the branches that have special 'regional' menu items

The article I read said they would be purchasing different equipment such as additional toasters and a rolling cart for eggs to keep them separated.

How can we McDonald's chefs expect to continue to put out our perfect, delicious, and healthy food in such an environment?

So additional equipment requirements for store owners

Potential of additional shrinkage costs due to keeping additional menu items ready for sale

Catering to slackers who sleep in late

Risk of cannibalizing sales of other menu items

Sounds like a plan

So I grabbed a McD's breakfast simply because I can't believe the fervor it's created in this thread.

I haven't had it in so many years I can't remember what it's about...so you've piqued my interest.

I grab the Egg, Bacon & Cheese Biscuit combo with orange juice.

I eat the hashbrown first. It's thicker than I remember...it's nothing special but it's not bad.

I bit into the biscuit and the egg is that poured from a box type of egg. It's a folded over egg pancake. The bacon was surprising...basically it wasn't so thin I could see through it (I'm looking at your Jack in the Box). The cheese is that horrible melted American "cheese"...which we all know isn't even cheese. The biscuit is OK...nothing special.

I wash it all down with my orange juice...decent OJ.

I'm seriously scratching my head over the excitement that this will be available all day/night.

Who gives a flying crap?

Is there a different item I should be trying or are you guys simply reminiscing and remembering when you were teens/young adults without taste buds?

Wait...this is like that McRib thing...isn't it?

Everyone loses their mind that it's available...then you get it and realize it's some kind of meat concoction that has been press molded into a riblet shape...complete with painted on bbq marks.

Guys...I don't mean to begrudge your meal choices but this franchise needs to be rejected if at all possible. Even for the "cost savings"...it's just not worth it.

McD's needs to go back to making & cooking their food in the stores. Fast food got too fast in this case. Go back to beef tallow for the fries. Cook the burgers in the store...ditch the microwaves & warming trays. Pretty sure bean counters caused this mess. Or one of the process uber alles gurus got loose at HQ.

You got the wrong thing.

Try a sausage egg and cheese mcgriddle.

Sausage McMuffin has a real egg, with a yolk and white clearly defined.

I like the Sausage egg and cheese on a bagel, guilty pleasure.

Hash browns are hit or miss, but when they are cooked just right...the best. Their coffee ain't half bad either, and 1 dollar for an iced coffee is a damn good deal.

Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical of this plan.

I think so much of McD's success had to with their efficiency. Now, it didn't produce great food, obviously, but I think people went there because they knew they'd get consistent food, really fast and cheap. At McD's, of all the fast food places, you were less likely to get the dreaded "please pull forward....."

I don't see how this doesn't slow them down, increases costs, or both. Maybe I'm wrong, and if anybody can get it figured out, it's probably McD's, but it doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
