Megyn Kelly says Santa Claus and Jesus were white (1 Viewer)

Thread should say "Megyn Kelly successful in getting people to talk about Megyn Kelly."
BILL O'REILLY: Because they cannot defeat us on the media battlefield, the far left seeks to demonize Fox News as a right-wing propaganda machine and a racist enterprise. Thats why Miss Megyn got headlines about a Santa Claus remark that was totally harmless.http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/bill-oreilly-megyn-kelly-santa-101228.html#ixzz2nqoILc7R
Hate to say it, but I kinda agree with him. Jesus (and Santa for that matter) are typically portrayed as white. Yet the outrage is virtually nonexistent. A FoxNews person says it, suddenly everyone is in serious outrage mode. It seems like people have more of an issue with the messenger than the message.
It wasn't outrage over the fact that Santa and Jesus are typically portrayed as white, it was outrage over the fact that she dismissed the notion that Santa and Jesus could be non-white.
so, you're saying there's a possibility santa might not be white?
I'm saying it's a fact that he is a fictional character so who cares what color he is portrayed as? Someone wants a black Santa that's all right with me.

Just like it's all right if someone wants a white Jesus. Who cares?
Apparently you do.

Anyone who thinks her comments were a big deal is sort of a moron...just wanted to put that out there.

The teacher who singled out the black kid though......that is pretty bad. I don't see how the two acts are comparable.

Fictional characters can, and do, often have defined identities. For instance, what does Zeus look like? (The Greek god not the crappy wrestler). Zeus looks like an old, powerful Greek guy. That makes sense given that practically every culture that created gods or folklore figures with a human body created those figures in their own image. You could portray Zeus as a black guy or Asian guy, but that doesn't change the fact that Zeus was conceived as and portrayed as for millennia as a white figure.

Kelly didn't say that Mall Santas can't be Asian or Black (as much as her critics would like to believe that to be the case), Kelly suggested that Aisha Harris' proposal to do away with white Santa is ridiculous given Santa's origins and historic portrayal, and given that there's no good reason to completely eliminate white or human Santa.

Not surprisingly, those most adamant that Kelly said something "racist" have not said a word about Harris' suggestion that white Santa should be done away with. That's partially because some people are uninformed enough regarding this story to believe that Kelly just came out of the blue with her statements, partially because (as O'Reilly suggests) some people get their jollies off attacking Fox News, and partially because some people can't bring themselves to criticize Harris' more extreme argument because they're afraid that to do so opens them up to the same criticism Kelly is receiving.

No I really don't care what color Santa or Jesus are portrayed as. What bothers me is knuckleheads who think they have to be represented in a single specific color and should not be represented in any other manner.

Thank you. You have restored my faith in humanity. That teacher is a total donkey who was singling one student out and was essentially saying that non-white people shouldn't portray Santa. That, as you correctly point out, is different than what Kelly did.

Happy Holidays to you and your family

I thought it was historically accepted as fact that Santa was white
Reality is all in what you make of it.
Well, seeing as he's based on Jólnir, (the Yule Figure) and that there weren't too many non-white scandinavians...

It gets complicated when Christianity started incorporating other religions and their celebrations.
True to a point although The Yule Figure is Germanic which is not exclusively Scandinavian. There is also specific Dutch & Scandinavian folklore about Santa.

However Santa's real life human analog was Saint Nicholas who was Turkish.

I heard a story on NPR today about Santa in Brazil. Santa spoke Portuguese. Megyn Kelly must be spinning in her grave.

New haircut was a bad decision. Terrible.
:goodposting: I told my wife the same thing when she came on the screen the other night.
She's doing it to get a show on a non cable channel. She's so fake it's unreal anyone could take her seriously.

I love the short hair and I am a long hair guy. It looks ridiculous when she has it with that more wet/slicked back look. So effing hot I just want to reach through the screen.

I'd be shocked if she goes anywhere any time soon. O'Reilly is getting up there now, and I am sure the head honchos at Fox would pay her whatever she wants to keep her. I am sure they consider her their most valuable on-air asset now.

I've heard that racist girls are the best in the sack.
You can always discuss what racist dudes are like if that's your cup of tea.
Sorry, my dad said "racy."
Have you heard of the old Candian punk band the Viletones? They have a great song called Swastica girl. It used to be one of my favorite covers to play.

No, but I like it. Lead singer reminds me of Joey Ramone.

Internet doofus complaints about a hot chick's hair cut has to rank high on Worst Shtick Ever rankings. A curse upon you all - may every football game you watch from now to eternity be filled with the presence of an overweight and under-cosmeticized post-partum hag.
