Melvin Gordon to return to school (1 Viewer)

So does he become the dynasty 1.01 if Gurley's injury is bad?
People were going to take Gurley 1.1 over Melvin? This dude averages 8.6 yards a carry! He is going to look great next year playing for a playoff team like the Dolphins, the Ravens, or the Saints.

Everyone and their mother's were taking Gurley over over Gordon.

Gordon will still go over Gurley in some drafts

I don't know. I've never seen a college rb as good as Gordon. Now, I am not an expert and I have not watched Gurley too much, but Gordon is beyond special. Yesterday after he went out the other rbs were pretty pedestrian, so I would not chalk Gordon's success up to an awesome offensive line. He is so quick through the pile that I seriously think a lot of players have a hard time reacting and thus cannot make the tackle. It was funny watching the game because Chris Speilman was actually getting mad at the husker defenders as for play after play, they simply could not tackle him.

Easy killer. I'm a WI homer and a huge Melvin fan but you gotta wait to see how he transitions to the pro game. His pass blocking and catching out of the backfield is not where it needs to be to maintain a feature back role. That's the exact reason he returned to school - to improve those two aspects of his game. I think right now he's a bulkier Murray who is not as smooth in the passing game and has less top end speed. The upright running style is likely to lead to more injuries than the average RB. I still don't see him being taken in the first round.

Call me crazy but I would rather have a smaller, more compact, shiftier back who excels in the passing game like Abdullah (who looks like Rice/MJD) because I can get him a full round later.

It's probably unfair and lazy analysis, but I have doubts based on the massive historical success of Wisconsin RB's who have subsequently fizzled in the pros.

I've been a Badger season ticket holder since the late 90's and I can say without a doubt the Melvin Gordon is by far the most talented back the Badgers have had since the Moss/Fletcher era. His balance, acceleration and ability to cut on a dime without changing speeds is what sets him apart. Many of the past Badger RB's, while very talented, benefitted from exceptional offensive lines full of future NFL players. This Badger offensive line is big and has been playing fairly well as of late is not as good as Badger lines in the past. I'm not sure there is anyone on this line that will be drafted in the 1st 3 rounds of the NFL draft which is unusual for them.

And after the Gurley news of the torn ACL, this race got 10x closer. Good luck figuring it out.
