Michael Vick sentenced to 23 months in prison (1 Viewer)

As long as people like Leonard Little are allowed in the NFL, talk of Vick being permanently banned is ridiculous.
Little didn't kill any dogs.
Nah, just someone's mom. I don't recall there being MADD protesters very often before Rams games. Killing dogs seems to be a more hot button issue than standard drunken vehicular manslaughter and that's what the public will react to. The big punishment is more for the criminal enterprise (interstate transport, gambling etc..) than the cruelty to animals issue. It's crazy that Vick gets more time in jail and will probably be more protested than Little. Who not only killed a woman, but has been stopped DUI twice since and gotten off on ridiculous technicalities or some such. But that's the way it is.

According to ESPN radio, the minimum he has to serve is 85% of his sentence before he can be released. That's 20.5 months, best case scenario.
Yes, that was Cossack. He speculated that the NFL "sentence" would also be concurrent with the 20+ month sentence.Would ANY team really gamble on this guy for 2009?
In answering this question, are we assuming that the Crypt Keeper is still alive and in charge of the Raiders, or not?

 Agreed...America has got some real misplaced values.Michael Milken (the "Junk Bond King" back in the 80's) received an offer to teach business at STANFORD while in jail, yet they have nerve to ask if Vick can come back to play football because he got caught up in training dogs that are bred to do what he was training them to do? I am not advocating what Vick did....he was definitely wrong and will pay the price for what he did. In fact I own a dog and a cat. What he did with those animals was despicable. That being said, the man should have at the very least an opportunity to come back after paying his dues and do the one thing he does well....the one thing he can make a living at.

1) 2 years is no where near enough for what he did. I know he lost 100 mil dollars, but it's crazy that a thug like that got 100 mil to begin with.

2) State and local charges are following and they will be less likely to deal after he admitted guilt.

3) Vick wouldn't have started serving his sentence early, if he didn't think there was a good chance he would have gotten less than that and could play in the 1st game in 09.

4) The Fed facility where he serves his time will have a lot to do how well he can train and have access to supplements ect... Some of those places are country clubs.

5) When he does come back, he might be asked to play RB or WR.

6) I'd be more concerned about his timing and accuracy when he comes back than his conditioning. He's gonna have all the time in the world to train.

7) He'll probably fail at any comeback attempt and that's a good thing for the NFL.

Granted the loss of human life is far more important thanthat of a dog. But the key factor is intent. It's not like Little drowned someone's mom or put a noose around their neck and literally dropped them. This is an issue because it's a guy whose name people know and a guy who did things that are simply monsterous. There's no other way about it. The pinnacle of irresponsibility (little is a good example of that) is nothing when something called "intent" is introduced. Our priorities may be screwed up but comparing Vick to Little is apples and oranges.

I agree. One killed a woman through exceptional, irresponsible and still intentional negligence (he knew he was going to drive, regardless of whose safety he endangered). The other killed some dogs. Killing a person, intent or not is way different and worse than killing dogs. But the governement didn't get any money from Vick's criminal enterprise and if theres one thing the gov't doesn't like, it's missing out on snagging some of our income. The charge of running a dog fighting ring is a very broad charge that includes the gambling, interstate commerce, resulting tax evasion etc... and that's why the sentence is worse. But don't give me the "Little had no intent". BS. He knew he was getting drunk and he knew he was going to drive. AFIC, if you end up killing somoeone it's the same thing as purposely shooting them. And then he goes and drives drunk at least twice since, regardless of whether he was convicted of it. And THAT is 1000 times worse than Vick has ever done (to our knowledge). You're right, they're completely different.

damn shame, ruined career of such an elite talent. I am glad he is doing time because he deserves some punishment but when all is said and done, i'll have forgiven the guy and i hope he gets back on the field.
