Hello friends and
new participants!
I'm just catching up on the thread, and I apologize in arrears and in advance for not being around much this week. Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking two (2) delayed flights to get to DC for a real treat: a 4000-person work meeting!
It is allegedly an honor to be invited to this, since the company has more like 90,000 employees. So far, I've been treated to the following non-exhaustive list of treats:
1. Each day starts at 8:15 a.m. and goes to around 10 pm, or later for some people. I am not some people.
2. If you don't want to have a roommate for the three nights of the meeting, you get to pay about $600 out of your own pocket. I'll give you one guess as to whether I thought $200/night not to bunk with a stranger was worth it.
3. The company is celebrating 25 years in business, and tonight we had a "birthday celebration" for "fun night," where we were all encouraged wear silver sparkly things and brightly colored party attire to honor the 25th anniversary (yes, it was termed both a birthday and an anniversary). Many of you might recall that the legal department is called the Justice League and that I had to choose a superhero to be when I took the job there. Since we are all superheroes, our team of 14 wore silver lame capes. (That should read "lam-AY" but it works just as well as lame.)
4. Through the two days of "content" during the day, sporadically they have each internal team do what they call a "team cheer," but it's really a song about work. All of corporate, including our group, is considered part of the same team. Our "cheer" is going to be sung to the tune of the song "Celebration," and I can't even bear to tell you the lyrics. Today on the only significant break we had, just before dinner, instead of breaking we practiced our cheer for tomorrow's performance.
5. There is more but I can't even.
Is there anyone who can take over this countdown if I don't survive?
