They had a difficult job following up Killing In the Name, but as a stand alone track Bulls holds up well
The history of this song is fascinating.
Falco (Rock Me Amadeus) - Had a huge hit with it in Europe, but its entirely in German.
After the Fire sensing an opportunity did a english enough cover.
Amazingly the Falco version hit #7 in Australia and the After the Fire version hit #17
In Canada Falco’s version hit #11, while After the Fires went to #12.
Most other countries picked one or the other as the dominant version.

A transitional album as they adopted a stadium sized sound. Dubbed by some as U3, the listener can decide for themselves if that's a cutting insult at their lack of originality or simply an acknowledgement of a new broadly popular sound. For me, the bombastic Speed Your Love to Me is the standout track. I know this band will never be able to separate themslves from The Breakfast Club (at least not in the States) but to me, the song I've chosen here is my favorite of theirs. It didn't do much here but this was a top 20 hit in the UK where the band always seemed to have far greater success.

freakin' loved it. I don't know why, but the "..and him" cracked me up, and then the ending hit.
Who Knew - as in, who knew I liked P!nk so much.
I really thought this was a scorchy pick when Apply Some Pressure started playing. Good, fun song.
Hell yeah - Funky Kingston!! I posted elsewhere after reading the book Oz suggested, I've been getting to genre's I normally don't touch (reggae, jazz) to figure out what I do like. I was so mad seeing this artist on Shuke's list..
Grey Matter was in my top 10, so I loved seeing this here. It was a song that popped into my head when you posted the genre.

I gave @Yambag a guess of his next 3 and batted .666 (not rounding up for metal's sake). I got the Cs artist wrong. I went with Corrosion of Conformity, but got his #9 and #28 correct. Anyway, Candlemass was added to my metal deep dive list. Not a band I have gotten around to, and seeing you and RW hold them in high regard is all the push I needed.
Echo the above with @rockaction's opinions in a genre I am trying to get more into, so Quasimoto/Madlib got added to my Hip Hop folder. Loved the vibe and beats on this one.
Even @MrsKarmaPolice is throwing me curves with something I've never heard before. I really liked The Animals of the World, and just listened to a few more off that album and those great as well. Thinking about your post and @jwb's theme, this one sounds like they recorded outside by a campfire. Great atmosphere to the song with headphones on.
@MAC_32's theme and songs have been great and hitting home this past couple weeks. Sorry for your loss, gb. I forget how great Corey's voice is in the Stone Sour format, so I changed the Slipknot spot in the metal deep dives with Corey Taylor to get around to both.

I'm curious to see if any women (single named or otherwise) appear on @Don Quixote 's Afrobeat list. West African music has traditionally been dominated by men but that's changed a bit recently. Tems is a female singer from Lagos who has become one of the biggest stars in African music. She currently has 17 million monthly Spotify streams which is about the same number as Led Zeppelin.
"Replay" is a cut from her second EP. It's an example of a musical genre known as Alté, a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, Dance Hall, Hip Hop and Reggae. I love the song's buoyant, sunny beats with the sax part bobbing and weaving its way through the tune. Tems uses her full vocal range from a smokey alto on the verse to soprano on the verse. Hers isn't a classically beautiful voice but it's very distinctive with a lot of soul.

Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary is an emo masterpiece. It's such the epitome of emo that South Park has an episode where a goth that catches his (kid? friend?) listening to Sunny Day Real Estate starts grilling her about if she's "emo." It was quite funny.
Anyway, I like the album. I have the album on vinyl, and I only buy stuff I really like in that format. So I had to put it on just now. I'll never forget watching it on MTV right when it came out and being blown away. It sounded so different than what was coming out of the Sub Pop scene back then.

So...like a bunch of the songs on the New York list, this one is about loneliness. It's a recurrent theme and hard to avoid. It also comes near the end of REM's long and illustrious career, and so it has another reason for a touch of the melancholy. However...I'm gonna say "Jesus Just Left Chicago" is better, even if the song isn't all that Chicago-y. So the Windy City now leads, 2-1. (You know I'm gonna find a way to make this a 16-15 final score).
On the NY scale:
Artist connection to New York (1-5 scale): 1. REM is from Georgia, and while Michael Stipe is an ornery *******, the band has little connection to New York.
Song connection to New York (1-10 scale): 3. The song mentions New York and it's wistful, but that doesn't count for much.
