Mike Goodson CAR RB (1 Viewer)

DeAngelo Williams (foot), Jonathan Stewart (concussion), and Tyrell Sutton (ankle) all missed Panthers practice Wednesday.

Williams has promisingly shed his boot and resumed walking without a limp, but hasn't been cleared for practice. It's uncertain whether he's able to make cuts yet on his sprained left foot. Stewart seems likely to miss at least one game with an apparently severe concussion. The extent of Sutton's injury is unknown. If none of the above play against the Buccaneers, versatile youngster Mike Goodson will make his first NFL start

Panthers | Mike Goodson to start Week 10 Wed Nov 10, 02:17 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Mike Goodson said he has been told he will start in Week 10, reports Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com.

Last Week of byes, and for those of you that play in 14 and 16 team leagues exclusively, First, I solute you. Second, Your man is coming, M GOODSON. Expect a good game from this dude if he does indeed get the start. Pick him up now if your needing a RB2, RB3, or flex play. More updates as they come.

tell me again, who's starting at QB for Carolina?

The SP has become so lame with all the pointless posts.

Thanks OP, definitely a good spot start in larger, deeper leagues.

I dont care whos starting at QB, where else on the wire can you get a back that will get almost all of the looks out of the backfield, Has good hands, and has the ability to break off long gains. Hes coming, look out.

taking a look at him now in a 14 teamer, thanks for the heads up OP

Looks to be a good candidate for ppr with good hands and a rookie qb, I'm adding him.

Might consider him in return leagues as well if he gets the start this week, he does KRs

Did they shore up the OL issues all of the sudden?
This isnt a start M Goodson over ___ thread. This is for those that dont play easy to manage 10 and 12 teamers. Thats not to say he wont out perform some studs. This guy is a spot start, and quite frankly Im desperate for a RB2, I really feel like DWILL and STEW will miss this week. Ill save MGOOD predictions for after fridays practice reports.

Picked Goodson up early this morning with tentative plans to play him at flex over Felix Jones; of course, if he gets the starting nod...

Keep in mind the Bucs are giving up 5.2 yards per carry, 175.4 total yards per game, and have surrendered eight touchdowns to running backs. Goodson has also shown great hands out of the backfield in his limited duty, with 17 receptions and will have a rookie QB (Clausen/Pike) throwing screens and dump-offs his way.

Those in PPR leagues looking for a flex or bye week fill-in could certainly do worse, but can they do better at this point in the season...?

Goodson was rostered last week as well as been on many rosters in most of my leagues.

I agree though, if you have space he is a decent pickup, esp for those with rb issues.

Not a thread hijack I promise...

Is there any truth that Armanti Edwards would be stepping in as their QB this week? Does this affect Goodson?

Panthers | Jimmy Clausen to start Week 10 Wed Nov 10, 01:12 PMCarolina Panthers head coach John Fox has named QB Jimmy Clausen as the starter for Week 10, according to CarolinaGrowl.com's Steve Reed.

Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald reports that Mike Goodson will be the Panthers' starting tailback in Week 10 against the Bucs.DeAngelo Williams (foot), Jonathan Stewart (concussion), and Tyrell Sutton (ankle) all appear unlikely to play. Goodson will be temporarily pulled off kick returns in favor of rookie DB Jordan Pugh. A versatile, explosive third-down back type, Goodson will be playing in one of the NFL's worst offenses Sunday, but could flirt with 15-20 touches and couldn't ask for a much better matchup. The Bucs rank 30th against the run, allowing 5.0 yards a carry.Source: Darin Gantt on Twitter
I've come too far this season to take a chance on yet another CAR RB. Count me out. Then again, in a 14-team PPR... maybe worth a flier. And how can anyone trust the name Getmethereforte? He'll get you a headache at best.

Forte got me there 2 years ago and this year in my biggest league he is the RB1 on a team that started out 6-0.

I like Goodson - I've watched him play a few times and think he's very underrated. However, Tampa Bay has a pattern of beating up weak teams and losing to the better teams this year. Carolina is a weak team, so I expect Tampa Bay to blow this game open, which means lots of passing by Claussen to play catch-up, which means not many rushes for Goodson. Plus, if he's getting a majority of the carries, that means they'll likely let someone else handle KR/PR duties this week. So I'll pass.

He's a good pass-catcher, no? Could catch a bunch of dump-offs if they get down big early. Sneaky PPR play.

I havent followed CAR this year much but when Clausen did start who was he throwing to? CAR homers chime in; wondering how his targets went..

Good pass catcher, and the guy has a burst, he already has 17 grabs for 140 this year and a 3.1 rush average, obviously his time was very limited though. Im excited to have him has an ultra sneaky RB2 in PPR this week. Could use a monster game out of this slot for the first time all year.

Picked him up and dropped Donald Brown (Addai owner). Yes, I am in a world of hurt at RB and have to take a chance. Let's go Goodson!

He's definately worth a shot as a bye week filler, but Williams and Stewart both have that ability and are the better talents and have struggled all season behind a poor line and with poor QB play (and it just got worse again). I'm not sure if we can expect a whole lot.

Just because Goodson is starting doesn't necessarly mean Williams and even Stewart aren't playing. I would scale back my expectations until we know about the rest of the backfield.

Panthers placed RT Jeff Otah (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season. Nov. 9 - 5:01 pm et

Otah had his left knee scoped in early August. Due to a setback later in the month, he wasn't expected to play until mid-season. It's now apparent that the setback was significant. Considering his injury history at Pitt, Otah's slow recovering time isn't a major surprise. The Panthers should have their right tackle back in time 2011, protecting a new quarterback.

:lmao:

Hmm, if he's really the only running back they have then I might start him over Ronnie Brown, Santana, and Mike Williams (TB). Most likely not. However, If you combined the stats of the RBs from the previous game against TB you would have 117 yards rushing on 33 carries at 3.5 yards per carry and 5 receptions for 53 yards receiving. I'm not saying he's going to get that much work but I think the fact that Carolina has no one, TB is one of the bottom few rush defenses, he should get a decent amount of carries, and he should get receptions should mean he would be servicable. Perhaps 15 carries for 55 yards rushing and 3 receptions for 30 yards receiving. 8 points is pretty much what I would expect for a flex so you can't be upset with that. He does have potential to do better. We've seen some pretty bad RBs and offenses do decent against bad defenses in the past. Decent for a spot start and worth thinking about.

You guys are nuts if you touch any player on that team, they are brutal. If Goodson was better than Stewart or Dwill, who have not been able to move the ball, he would have been ahead of them on the depth chart. The o-line is brutal, the qb is brutal, the coaching staff is brutal. Enjoy your 42 yards on 16 carries. Has Claussen even eclipsed 100 yards passing in any game he started this year? They are on pace to score like 175 pts this year....Yuck!

(RotoWire) Goodson said Wednesday that he has been told that he will start at running back for the Panthers Sunday against Tampa Bay, the Gaston Gazette reports.

Analysis: DeAngelo Williams (foot), Jonathan Stewart (head) and Tyrell Sutton (ankle) all sat out practice Wednesday, but the fact that Goodson has already been informed that he will start this week, suggests that Panthers could be without all three of their banged-up backs this week. If that's the case, Goodson could be busy against a Bucs' defense that has given up an average of 147 yards on the ground thus far. Only Denver and Buffalo are allowing more rushing yards per game.

If this holds true he'll probably still pull in 6 of 7 catches for a decent yardage total and maybe even a TD in garbage time

Goodson has talent and has been impressive in spells. He's not at the same level as Williams or Stewart, but considering that he'll pretty much be the sole back (Tyrell Sutton is injured as well, and the Panthers just claimed Andre Brown and signed Josh Vaughn, who played pretty well for Carolina in the preseason), he could have some value.

In a PPR, he can probably put up RB2 or RB3 points, because he's shown his value as a receiving back. Where Stewart and Williams were pretty much forgotten when the Panthers fell behind, Goodson will probably continue to get short passes.

If I had a need, I would probably start him.

Goodson does a lot with a little. The gold rule this year is don't start your Panthers no matter who it is....Steve South, J-Stew, D-Will anyone. You just don't....but I think this is the one case where Goodson is going to showcase what he has and do very well. I do own him in 3 dynasty leagues and live here in Charlotte though. From what I've seen, if they run the O through him and you're in a PPR league...he's going to be a good play (a junk play, but all you need is his 15 points at the end of the day). If you have no other options, he's a good play this week. The team has cashed in, this is his job interview. An opportunity to get some tape out there and if he's healthy look for a lot of dumps, end arounds and a feature back type day..the guy can move in tight space very well...but this team is playing so bad right now. There's no one else there at RB this week and if they can get ANYTHING out of this team this week, they'll rally around Goodson as he brings a spark. The guy has averaged about 6-7 points per week every game/time he was worked into the mix spelling both J-Stew and D-Will. I'd say he can come close to doubling those points this week with ease.

I would think about picking him up but if Stewart and Deangelo haven't done anything I don't have hope for this guy.

Who said Goodson was better than Stewart or DeAngelo? He doesn't have to be better than them to be good at what he does. Goodson actually has been able to move the ball this season in his limited opportunities. I'm glad for him to get the start this Sunday. If he plays like he has been, he could do well.
