Goodson's value is not as a rusher, it's as a receiver. In a PPR league, he's a viable 'what the heck' bye week fill in at a Flex spot. If you're in a PPR/Returns league he'd be a bit more viable(if he's still returning kicks this week)--Week1: 3 catches on 5 targets for 31 yards. No rushes. 117 KR yards. 9points.Week2: 2 catches on 3 targets for 33 yards. 5 rushes for 20 yards. 75 KR yards. 9.18 points Week3: 4 catches on 8 targets for 47 yards. 0 rush attempts. 68 KR yards. 10.40 pointsWeek4: 0 catches. 0 targets. 1 rush attempt for 0 yards. 142 KR yards. 3.55 pointsWeek5: 0 catche. 0 targets. 0 rush attempts. 62 KR yards. 1.55 pointsWeek6: ByeWeek7: 1 catch on 2 targets for -5 yards. 0 rush attempts. 84 KR yards. 2.60 pointsWeek8: 4 catches on 5 targets for 16 yards. 1 rush attempt for 1 yard. 107 KR yards. 8.38 pointsWeek9: 3 catches on 4 targets for 18 yards. 9 rush attempts for 28 yards. 31 KR yards. 8.48 pointsNothing world beater about him, but in a PPR league he's put up low end Flex numbers in 5 out of the 8 weeks they've played, in very limited touches. Even if he totally sucks running the ball this week, if he gets 10-12 carries for 30-40 yards and gets another 30 on 3 or 4 catches, that's totally useful as a PPR Flex for a team having bye issues. If he manages to find the endzone with those numbers, that's RB2 territory. I don't think anyone here is claiming this guy is going to carry anyone to a fantasy championship. If you're in a PPR, he's worth a pickup for this week. If you're in a TD only league, he's probably not even a blip on your radar, but to espouse he's only viable in '30 team leagues' is flawed.Lets look at the facts, not personal views:The Car o-line is 26th in the NFL when it comes to rushing TWENTY SIXGoodson is average is 3.1 yards per carryGoodson was out rushed by Sutton who is averaging 5.9 yards per carry, hmmmmmmmm who do you think is the sleeper this week 3.1 vs 5.9, I go with Sutton, who has a burst that Goodson wish he had.OP your reaching for the stars on this call, but if your in a 30 team league it could be a decent call
Panthers RB Tyrell Sutton was carted off the field with an ankle injury during the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Saints.Analysis: Sutton was getting extra reps with Jonathan Stewart (head) sidelined and DeAngelo Williams (foot) inactive. He is questionable to return. Mike Goodson will handle all the running back reps now.Lets look at the facts, not personal views:The Car o-line is 26th in the NFL when it comes to rushing TWENTY SIXGoodson is average is 3.1 yards per carryGoodson was out rushed by Sutton who is averaging 5.9 yards per carry, hmmmmmmmm who do you think is the sleeper this week 3.1 vs 5.9, I go with Sutton, who has a burst that Goodson wish he had.OP your reaching for the stars on this call, but if your in a 30 team league it could be a decent call

In my PPR league he's already averaging more points than Stewart (6.5 vs. 4.5).-ppr -green QB-check downs-weak rush D-100 yards rushing against TB earlier this year(stewart + williams)- 85 total yards and 5 receptions is great from a flex spotother than a juicy matchup againts a weak run defense. I am wonderding why ff owners would think Goodson can get the job done while Williams and Stewart have looked pathetic all year?
I agree. For owners that are hurting at the RB2 spot, Goodson is not only worth a gamble, he may be as good as it gets this week compared to the other options. The best you can hope for is that your RB1 plays above average and Goodson gets the opportunity to have a decent day. This is the same defense that gave Chris Ivory 159 yards on 15 carries. Different games, different teams, different scenarios, and the Panthers are a much worse team/OL than the Saints but talent wise? I doubt Goodson can be that much worse than Chris Ivory who has failed to put up a meaningful game since that one. Especially since he can receive balls too and it gives him a higher floor. TB has been giving up huge games to no name RBs since 2008 and I think it was Carolina that opened that door. After that point, every team ran over them. Even Julius Jones did decent against them with the Seahawks when he had enough carries. Really, that's all it comes down to, opportunity vs a poor defense. As a guy who can catch and run with an offense with literally nothing else, he really should get opportunity. You can expect poor yardage per carries but if he gets 20+ touches he should be in for a decent day. If you can argue that he will get less then he's a poor play but it's worth a gamble. No one's week should hinge on his success or failure or you got even bigger problems to worry about so even if he gets 5 points, people shouldn't feel too disappointed. I personally think this is one of the funnest parts of fantasy football when your opponent mocks you for starting him and then watches him defy the odds to slaughter his team. That alone makes it worth it for me, but I play fantasy for fun as well as money.
No one on that team is a lock for anything. In case you haven't noticed Carolina has been completely awful at all phases of the offense, and most of the defense, all year. He's worth a what the heck flex but is not a lock for anything more than 8 carries. There is a very good chance that Carolina will get down early, abandon the run like they have all year, and spend the majority of the game letting Clausen drill Bucs defenders in the numbers. This has happened already multiple times this year, regardless of who their running back is. There is absolutely no reason to think that Goodson improves their already pathetically awful rushing attack at all. That being said, with McFadden on bye I am starting him and hoping for something like 12 for 34, 3 for 8 and maybe a TD.Lock for 120 yards is absolutely laughable.Laugh, MGOOD is a lock for 120 total yards on the Bucs mediocore run D.Exactly the reasons I picked up the Buc's DST this week![]()
As I mentioned earlier other than a juicy matchup the reasons you mention above seems like you're a "glass is half full" type of guy.harryhood said:-ppr -green QBdansav said:other than a juicy matchup againts a weak run defense. He has shown value in standard PPR leagues but I would be real hesitant to start him this week outside of that, The Panthers are not going to run the ball, they have a horrific offense and they have never let him carry the ball much at all. Generally he'll come in on 3rd down, pick up a few snaps there and often he'll line up at receiver. Maybe this is the chance he's been waiting for behind 2 first rounders to run the ball but I need more evidence. He's my lead back again this week on that team.:Ryan Matthews owner:
When the Panthers have abandoned the run, do you know who has been in playing while they are playing catchup? Mike Goodson. He is a good receiving option, so the Panthers being down in the game isn't a reason to knock Goodson down from getting some stats. There is a very good chance that Carolina will get down early, abandon the run like they have all year, and spend the majority of the game letting Clausen drill Bucs defenders in the numbers. getting a starting RB even on a team that isn't producing this year is worth a shot. I have been basically getting a zero out of Felix Jones all year so I'm rolling the dice on this guy.I have Torain (hammy) and Mathews so I am going to roll the dice with him.TwinTurbo said:I agree. Gonna pick up Mike Goodson and Bill Todman.![]()

I would start Torain over him for sure if he plays. But since it's a Monday night game it may be a tough decision to make. When he had 15 carries, he was at 101 yards iirc...I would expect 15 carries for 45 yards, 2 catches for 10 yards, zero td's.Blount will put up 150 and 2 though. TB will win time of possession 40 minutes to 20.
I'd sure like to see Deangelo Williams play in a game as much as this guy did. Exactly what I suspected. Give a primary ballcarrier the majority of carries and he will perform better than dicking around with 50000 formations. Can we just once see DeAngelo in the game for a whole series? He is the best RB they have.so was this a one week wonder? any chance he starts next week? it's not like any other back has done anything
Disagree Fox has shown in the past he always goes with the guy with more experience. It may be a split but more like 15-10 in favour of J-STEW.Seems clear that if Stewart stays out Goodson will be a serviceable RB. If Stewart gets back CAR goes back to splitting carries and both become useless. Never heard of a concussion causing anyone to miss more than a couple of weeks so I doubt the CAR backfield is a gold mine.
He is worth owning, but since you asked, I think the odds of him being a reliable lowend RB2 are not good. First, the team is not that good and the OL is horrible. Second, although he had a nice outing against a bad defense, clearly the team will give Stewart every chance to seize the job. Will Stewart stay healthy? Who knows? Which is why Goodson is worth keeping and could pay off. But I don't think there is a good chance of it to be honest. It's official....DWill has been placed on IR. With Stewart still not practicing and Sutton's health cloudy, is there anything to be excited about with Goodson going forward? He did break 100 yrds rushing last week (albeit against a porous TB D), but he seems to have good quickness, burst, and is active in the passing game. What are the chances he becomes a reliable low-end RB#2/high-end RB#3 going forward? This backfield seems as murkey as the WAS backfield right now. Our league has very limited roster space, I've got Goodson, and Stewart is sitting on our WW. Just trying to read the tea leaves a little here and wondering if I should make room for Stewart or will both of these guys be unstartable going forward?
