Millen officially retained in Detroit (1 Viewer)

In a move that has been expected, Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford has officially retained president Matt Millen for another season, according to a television report this morning. Fox 2 Detroit reported that Millen will definitely return for a seventh season to lead the Lions, who have lost 10 or more games for all six seasons Millen has been in charge. The Lions finished the 2006 season with a 3-13 record and will have the second overall pick in the April NFL draft. Millen still has four years remaining on a five-year contract extension he was given last season.

They should fire HC Rod Marinelli because any coach that can't win with the talented players Millen has put together is clearly not any good.

As an aside, those pics Millen has of William Clay Ford must be of really high quality.

Does this guy have blackmail material or something? Unreal.

So which WR will they take this year?

I think that Mike Williams' touchdown reception against Dallas proved that Millen really does know what he's doing. Detroit has to stay patient and let his plan take effect.

well, he still has about two seasons to go to reach 100 losses as a GM. If Favre can come back for his milestones, why not Millen?

In all seriousness, on the radio a few weeks back, I heard what could be the explanation for why Millen remains employed, and it is a very lame one: a beat writer mentioned that he believes Millen still has a job because every Monday morning he sits with William Clay Ford Sr. and goes through the game tape with him, and explains all the "football details" (coverages, schemes, stunts, etc.) about each and every play. And Ford likes that.

Truly stunning. I thought for sure this was the end. Blackmail? I'm thinking an interoffice romance or something. Maybe that's what's up in those tape sessions. No cohesive strategy. NO progressve improvement. Nothing. Just consistent high draft picks. I can deliver that, at a third of the salary. Heck, a tenth. Without the darkroom video company, of course.

I feel bad for Lions fans. :hot:

The only choice now is to not buy tickets. I know that they staged that whole "walk out" thing but fans just need to stop buying tickets. When attendance drops to 20,000 people, maybe Ford would get the message.

But hey, at least Ford is churning out great cars at record profits... :wall:

The above is just mind boggling!!!! :goodposting:

We are through the looking glass, people. If Oakland keeps Art Shell, the 2nd of the seven seals will be fulfilled...

I say this in all seriousness: How is it possible that the Lions have ANY fans left? The inept draft choices and horrible personnel decisions will be the stuff of legends years from now. We'll be telling our grandchildren how bad this team was run......

I wouldnt be shocked if there are some photos in a manila envelope somewhere that explain all of this. You know its getting bad when the conspiracy theory makes the most sense.

 Calvin Johnson may not fall to TB
Not the change the subject, but as a Buc fan I can say that I feel comfortable in saying the Bucs will NOT select a wr at 3/4 pick... I think they will once again(as the past) pick the best Defensive player available.

I am in line for season tickets. I am at about #1300. The year before about #4500. When the offer comes in the spring to buy them, I am passing.

I heard Millen is going to resign his post because he understands the team may have underperformed the last few seasons....

At the rate they're going, your grandchildren will be able to see for themselves.

Here is another mind boggling fact, Shawn Rogers is the only Millen draft pick to play in the pro bowl, and this is over a 6 year period. Considering how high some of the picks were, this speaks of how terrible he is.

Millen is surely awful, but people have gotta get off the thing with the high picks that busted. It's not like the Lions drafted unknowns, or picked bad players. Charles Rogers had lots of talent, and two season-ending injuries in a row. Roy Williams is great, and could have gone to the Pro Bowl this year. He may yet go as an alternate. And Mike Williams may have been a head-scratcher in that he was the third top-10 WR in a row, but talent-wise, he was considered an elite WR prospect, and Rogers was basicaly done by then anyway. And Joey Harrington is just the latest of the early QB busts - he was not a questionable selection like Akili Smith or even Alex Smith.

Man, as a Bengals fan, I thought going through the Mike Brown era (pre-Marvin) was rough - I'm starting to think Lions fans might actually have it worse! I mean hell, we never had 6 straight 10-loss seasons even through all the bad times! The debacle that was David Shula lasted "only" 71 games (19-52) and Millen has lasted 96 (with a worse winning percentage?!?)

Good Luck Lions Fans!!!

:lmao: There was still a waiting list? Some games weren't even sold out!I was selling my tickets to all the opponets fans, they were the only ones that would pay!

Which would make sense because that's the same thing Wayne Fontes would do with Ford. Every Monday he would go to Dearborn and sit with Ford and do the same thing. I'm sure scotch and cigars were probably involved too since Ford is such a boozer.

I'm at #567.

All I have to say is if after next year and the Lions are in the hunt for the #1 overall pick again with no KJ for most if not all the year, then Ford should be shot. This is ridiculous.
