cos 5.x Stay / Jackson Browne
If Rosemary Butler sang to me at my deathbed, I might just stay a little bit longer

I really love this song. Considered it for my list as well.cos 8.x Emmylou Harris  / "Pancho and Lefty"
A few gray Federales say
We could have had him any day
We only let him go so long
Out of kindness, I suppose
big fan of this song and Doctor My Eyes - man this guy was monster-big in the mid-late 70s.cos 5.x Stay / Jackson Browne

Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller Orchestra
One of the warmest tunes in modern American music. I could see myself just floating away into the night with this tune humming in the background
Rd 7
The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughn Williams
For singing till his heaven fills,
'Tis love of earth that he instils,
And ever winging up and up,
Our valley is his golden cup
And he the wine which overflows
to lift us with him as he goes.

Let It Be by Aretha Franklin
It is rare that the Beatles get outdone by anyone but Aretha had a way of taking someone elses song and making it totally her own.
That's awesome, lyrically.Round 9
One of my favorite "new" bands I've likely listened to these guys a lot of the last 20+ years. This song is both somber and uplifting enough to fit the mood of my party/wake:
Blue - The Jayhawks
Where have all my friends gone
They've all disappeared
Turned around maybe one day
You're all that was there
Stood by on believing
Stood by on my own
Always thought I was someone
Turned out I was wrong
Great pick. Love the Jayhawks.Round 9

link to the sheet pleaseI'm up through Binky's Neil Young shout-out and great song. I have to step out for a bit so the sheet won't get updated for a bit unless Mr. Ected is around.
which one?I want to update the sheet, but still keep hearing cos's Townes Van Zandt song.
Why couldn't you do it? It's a great song, and what better way to fly into the afterlife with some cowbell. The first live show I ever saw was Blue Oyster Cult (12 years old at the San Diego Sports Arena--one of the worst venues I've ever been to for live music). I came very close to lightening the mood with more cowbell and Don't Fear the Reaper, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
I made my selections into a playlist and listened to it all the way through. After listening to it, there were three songs that didn't make the cut.Why couldn't you do it? It's a great song, and what better way to fly into the afterlife with some cowbell.
I could definitely go there, but will go over the 75-minute limit.FYI = I'm going 20 songs on my list. Joining me is optional.

I think. I'm not great at doing this.
I want to update the sheet
I didn't see this pick on the spreadsheet. TIA7. In the End - Linkin Park
This one is for my first born. He and I discovered this song independently of each other, and even though I don't recall ever directly talking about it with him, he knows I like it and I know he likes it. I think I would have included it on this list regardless, because of how much of a struggle it was for us to raise him, and all the worry, frustration and fear we went through getting him through high school, and continue to go through as we try to figure out what he's going to do with himself now.
FWIW, I think the shift in tone between this and the previous song on my list is apropos.
Thanks, Charlie. I sort of started where Mr. Ected left off. I've added it to the sixth round where something got hinky.I didn't see this pick on the spreadsheet. TIA
Here is that version...There are several songs of his that I could take.6. "I Got A Name" - Jim Croce
Like "Drift Away", this one just nails it for me across the board. Great song as comfort food.
Croce is criminally underrated because.....he wasn't pretentious, I guess? Great lyricist with a fine voice and - gasp! - a sense of humor.
Have you ever heard his story about Bad, Bad Leroy Brown? I'll dig it up later.
ok. I could swear i knew that song as sung by her Jeff walker, but I couldn't find it. I thought maybe you were referring to dead flowers or pancho and lefty.Round 7.xx/Waiting Around To Die
Thought about selecting the 40+ minute Refried Boogie and just putting it on loop for my mix.Let's Work Together / Canned Heat
Bought my first canned heat LP in 68. Always loved them. Band members had way too hard a time staying alive, tho. Just love love love the Bear on this
20 songs get 90 minutes. The 90 minute cassette was always my favorite mixtape format anyway.Binky The Doormat said:I could definitely go there, but will go over the 75-minute limit.
