MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (1 Viewer)

I keep asking rules questions, but are doing one pick past twelve EST and one past four? Or is it 9 AM and four pm?
Neither.  We can pick anytime in the am, so now (midnight est).  Next pick will still be 4 est.  People have picked very early in the morning for other rounds.

By the way, I have no theme. It's just to make as good as a mixtape as possible for posterity, so that people that might stumble across this or request it know what I listened to. I wanted to draw on a range of genres (of course emphasizing my favorite ones), a range of bands and artists, a range of titular lengths and weirdness, and run times of songs. In short, the most representative mixtape of my tastes given the six word constraint.

And I'm Hippling, so I'll stop now.

eta* oh, and pair spinners for about half of the draft

So do people decided on their theme before the draft?  Take a song or two and see a theme form?  Say "#### themes" and take what they want?

I had a couple simple ones I was thinking of.  Took the Arctic Monkeys song first because that one fit a few themes as I decided which way to go.  I had thought about just doing a UK draft which wouldn't have been too bad.  Also thought about doing one with all the titles also being questions, but decided that would've been too hard for me.  Ended up with something that pushed me a tad, but still wasn't too horrible to find songs for.
I am at Round 19 with no concept yet on my theme or mix.  Just taking songs I like.

19.xx - Jason Isbell - Songs That She Sang in the Shower

Linking back to my pick in the previous round, Jason cites John Prine as a major influence.  Similar to my Prine pick, Isbell's songs seem to reveal more and more with each listening for me - be it a lyric that I finally "get" or discovery of how the bass line rolls through the song effortlessly.

It's a slower tune, but that's fine with me.  Of all the Isbell shows (12), I think I have only seen this song live once or twice.  Surprised when I looked that it is one of the few of his songs that qualify for this draft, but I think it will fit right in my mix, somewhere.

Last couple picks of the draft.  Have my mix all ready to go (highly doubt a snipe comes on my last song).

19.xx:  DEVO - THE DAY MY BABY GAVE ME A SURPRISE

LINK

18 - Daft Punk - The Prime Time of Your Life (from the Human After All record)

For the mix tape I want to use the Alive version of Prime Time of Your Life/Brainwasher/Rollin and Scratchin/Alive as it's WAY more fun for everyone on spotify imo.

I have a duet 80's tune that would fit with your mix nice uf you want it.

That's how I do it too.  Usually having a theme is so I have to take stuff that I normally wouldn't.  Otherwise I get into a rhythm of taking the usual staples of 90s music.
Mine was taking either a love song or breakup song (after it just kind of started out that way) - but admittedly there are at least 3-4 songs that don't really fit that theme at this point.

18th Round - Moon Loves Honey - "Tell Me More of Your Lies"

I discovered this band like 3 weeks ago as a recommended Spotify artist when I was on a browsing kick and immediately fell in love with their sound.  Spotify terms it as "dreamgaze", which is a pretty apt description.  They're apparently from Denmark and they don't have a Wikipedia page.

I think I may have set the FBG Youtube video disparity record by picking a song with 1.4 billion+ views and now this song with 1,805 views in the same draft.

Also I was on vacation last week so I did not really keep track of what I drafted - just looked at the google sheet and see it needs to be updated (not complaining, thanks for the hard work) because I will need to rely on that to put out my Spotify mix. For example I added words to the Joe Jackson song I picked so needed to repack but the spreadsheet still lists the Joe Jackson song.

Raging Weasel took Don't Come Around... in the sixteenth.

eta* not being a stickler, just trying to help out.

:lmao:

This thread always makes me think of this song by Weird Al, a parody of I've Got My Mind Set on You by George Harrison.

(This Song's Just) Six Words

This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long

This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
Couldn't think of any lyrics
No, I never wrote the lyrics
So, I'll just sing any old lyrics
That come to mind, child
You really need words
A whole lotta rhyming words
You gotta write so many words
To do it
To do it
To do it
To do it
To do it
To do it right, child
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long

Everyone will note uber-nerd Weird Al is counting the apostrophe and its following letter as separate words

19 - Duran Duran - Is There Something I Should Know.

I was going back and forth on a couple of tunes but I want something from this era, and the sound works with my mix.

Was thinking about taking this next!
