MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (1 Viewer)

By the way, I'll be on the road for 13 hours tomorrow, so I'll catch up on Sunday.

Feel free to skip me and mock my ####ty dancing skillz.

16- Grateful Dead "(Walk Me Out in the) Morning Dew" Gotta be the Cornell version.

My rock side needed a bit more rock imo.

I have no idea what I'm doing with my last 4 picks.

I think I might throw out a bonus pick afterward with a song not on Spotify.

:banned: :suds: by the way

Back to School Mixtape Draft

Anyway, we draft categories that are a class and are tasked with putting together a 12-15 song "syllabus". Easy enough: we have categories like Anatomy, History, Phy Ed, Geography, Psychology, Math, etc.. and we have to draft songs for that category. We could either do one song of each, or have each drafter be a teacher and put together their mix from one class. I like the 2nd option, but we would need more drafters than we have been getting to pull it off I think. Would be fun to do another more like the mystery category mix. For example if there are 24 of us, we could just decide on the 8 categories we like best and randomize so 3 drafters would be doing the same thing. That way there would be a least a little of a battle over songs.
I like this idea.  I'm taking Anthropology right now.  I think I can come up with a syllabus, no problem.

Were any of you guys or gals in that Ill-fated Pick One Song elimination tournament years ago?

i think I blew it up when I tried to take down Joe Cocker with my Boys on Wheels pick. It's one of my prouder FBG moments.

This is one of my favorite TP songs. It reminds me of my high school days. I remember before the album was released, TP was in a war with the distributor over the price of the album. MCA wanted to raise the prices from $8.98 to $9.98. Petty battled them on it, and it was finally released at $8.98. On the record cover TP is standing in a record store, and on one of the album bends in the photo it says 8.98 on it.  Trivia: Petty was a big John Lennon fan, and was supposed to meet Lennon for the first time at the recording studio during the making of Hard Promises, but Lennon was murdered before the meeting could happen. Petty decided to etch on side A of the record "We Love You J.L." It is etched on all the first pressings of the vinyl, which is now a collectors item.

17.xx - A Woman in Love (It's Not Me) - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

flow-busta deeeeeluxe...

but I'm in the mood right now so #### it.

I played piano- took lessons- until I was 18. I was semi-serious about it (not as serious as my teacher would have liked), with recitals, HS orchestra and local competitions. This was one of the last songs I played- and the last song I played that wasn't mozart or bach (mach, so to speak). tons of fun to play and so different than those guys- my favorite ending to a piece ever. oh... so the improv on bach- b-a-c-h represent a different notation system and are each notes that make up the main theme of the piece that you'll hear repeated throughout (in both hands) and are the opening 4 notes.

16... Valse Improvisation sur le nom de Bach... Francis Poulenc
OK... I think this is my best bet for a blend at 17

17.... You Might Think He Loves You for Your Money but I Know What He Really Loves You for It’s Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat... Death Grips

Been sitting on this one for quite a bit, so time to crap or get off the pot.  Last classic I plan on taking - at least for now.

17.xx - The Band - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

Linked a live version here.  Like Levon Helm, not a fan of the Joan Baez cover, but have enjoyed those by The Allman Brothers Band, Zac Brown Band, John R. Cash (otherwise known as Johnny Cash), and The Black Crowes.

And a shout out to @Northern Voice as until now, while doing a little back research on this gem, I never realized that 4/5ths of "The Band" were of Canadian decent.

Very surprised that this one hadn't been taken yet.

Repo Man!!  Listened to my mix, and I think the start needs a couple more punk songs for some balance...

17.xx:  CIRCLE JERKS - WHEN THE #### HITS THE FAN

I saw these guys with Agnostic Front in Trenton NJ back in college - it was a whole other world than I was used to and that frankly wasn't for me but a great experience nevertheless.

RD 16:  What Do You Want From Life - The Tubes (live version)

I like the studio version as well, just like the live version better.  These guys were terribly underrated.  The Tubes drummer, Prarie Prince has been playing with Todd for years now.  Guy is fantastic.  And what can you say about Fee Waybill and his "Johnny Manziel's older brother" look.

song link.

ETA:  this whole album is great.

17 - Mogwai - I Love You, I'm Going To Blow Up Your School

I have to have Mogwai in this draft, of course. This starts off very slow and spacious, builds to a crescendo and then soars at the end.

Man I wanted to take wildly different tune considering this draft, but couldn't pull the trigger. I'm disappointed in myself.

Maybe tomorrow.

And favorite part of that double album was the photos from their insane live shows. I was just a couple years too young to catch them in their 70s era of parliament level nuttiness.

Eta. I'm taking Tubes, not Poulenc... Although I hear Francis was a sex drugs and avantgarde choral music fiend
