MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (1 Viewer)

The latter for me. I've only gotten through a handful
Yeah, I think we could probably shoot to start the next one the week of April 3 - by the end of next weekend, probably people will be through the majority of the mixes or momentum on listening to them will be waning. That said, I'm not commish of this one or the next one and I'll go along with whatever..

I bought Roxy Music - Country Life and Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West on vinyl this afternoon, so that's what I'm listening to sipping on a beer at the moment.

Country Life is a used version with the censored version of the album cover. It's basically just a bunch of pine needles :kicksrock:

I'm going latter for a different reason. I generally tend to do these from memory (without sheets or lists) so I need time to recharge my listening or I get lots of repeats. I have a decently broad music range (when it comes to pop, rock, and hip hop, that is) but need time to be getting into other stuff.

Then again, I can always just sit one out.

If a lot of us want to do the school thing, I was thinking the same thing and suggesting a start date the first or second week in April.  It was also get me past my son's Spring Break from school and back on track of having more time.

Part of me wants to get another one in quick before more and more people are busy as it starts to warm up and near summer, but don't want to rush it and have people burned out on drafting either.

No sitting out, that's for weenies.

That 1st week of April is good for me- I'll be on spring break. If it works for others, then sounds fun. The school idea is interesting, were you thinking only 1 subject per drafter? How was it working again?

Still owe a write up for @Northern Voice's mix.

Damn near all new music here.  Recognize some bands, but he was being tricky and throwing stuff in from this year.  I know I have listened to a couple albums on the mix from this year, but evidently only once or definitely not enough to remember any of these songs.  As I listened to this mix, I was realizing that I think I have gone back to my old ways as far as music goes.  I try to keep up a little with the new stuff, maybe listen to it once, but not multiple times.  A lot of new albums I do get into are just new stuff from bands that have been around for awhile.  Anyway, really liked this mix too, as I need more exposure to new stuff.  The only one that I was really familiar with was the Nathaniel Rateliff song.  The wife and I saw them last year in concert with Lord Huron (yeah, that's right - I have been to 1 concert in about 5 years!!).  The only one that didn't jive with me was The Arcs.  LOVE The Black Keys, but didn't click with Dan's solo stuff or The Arcs.

1.  Phantogram -

WTF - I am not sure how I missed this album last year.  Voices was one of my favorite albums of '14 and Fall is Love is played over and over in my house.  Also realized I haven't heard anything before Voices either, so I will have to correct that.

2.  Drenge -

Kinda rememberish this album, but evidently it didn't stick.  Didn't recognize this song, but loved it.

3.  Arkells -

WTF was on my list last year?  Evidently I missed this too.  Great song and great closer for the mix.

Great mix - thanks for doing all new songs for the draft!  It was hard just picking 3 songs, there was a ton of great new (for me) stuff on here.

I guess we could discuss/vote on that.  I really could go either way, and both sound fun:

1.  We come up with with a bunch of courses, and you have to draft 1-2 songs for each

2.  We come up with subjects and you have to take a whole draft of just one subject.  (We could even have a "substitute teacher" draft and you get assigned your subject at the start of the draft randomly).

Both have their pros and cons.  There would be less sniping for #2, but it might be slightly harder depending on the subjects.

A 3rd way to do it is just to leave it up to the drafter.  Say you have to choose if you are an elementary teacher or a professor - the first you would do a broad range of subjects, so a song each for Math, Literature, history, etc...   the 2nd you would focus on one subject and just do a whole draft of History or Math.

I know.... :nerd:

You're at least the 2nd, maybe 3rd person who picked the Arkells song out of my mix. It's a good song and they're a really good band, one of my favourites. With regards to them though (I know you've been to one concert in 5 years but in general) and @Steve Tasker will back me up on this. They're a pretty good recorded band. They are absolutely "can't miss" phenomenal live.

Listened to @rockaction's mix just now.  Really liked most of it.  It's the first I've listened to, other than mine which was purposely drafted with songs in the same vein, so I'm not sure about variability in the other mixes yet, but this one has it in spades. I think it's much more difficult to create flow in a varied mix, but he did a fine job of it here.

I would've never thought that the transition of Simon & Garfunkel to Deftones could work, but it does.  Speaking of Deftones, that song was my favorite of those I wasn't very familiar with--I'll have to give them more listens.  Of the artists I wasn't as familiar with, I also liked the tunes from Rancid and Thursday. And I'd never heard of Underground Railroad but really loved that song.  I'm very familiar with Modest Mouse, Four Tet, MoB, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai and Weezer---all good stuff from them.

The only misfires for me, due solely to personal preference, were Refused and Ms. Swift--just not my cup of tea.

Overall, great job.

Cool. Thanks for listening, Marco.

So other than possibly one other, I'll be surprised if anyone else's mix comes as close to something I might have put together than  @Eephus's, except he is much better at it than I. His tastes overlap mine quite a bit and I think we're about the same age.  Almost every artist is someone I like or love (not a huge Bangles fan, but this song isn't bad). Nice combination of newer and older songs but in similar styles. Great flow.

Ballboy and Magazine were the only bands I didn't know very well and I loved both those songs.

Excellent.

I listened to Hov's mix Thursday night. I had written down on a tissue four songs I didn't know before and I like a lot, but I couldn't find it tonight. I think I blew my nose with it. Anyway, I figured I'd like his mix since he and I like a lot of similar stuff. There wasn't anything I didn't like on it, and I now know four songs I didn't know before by the artists The Death South, Irma Thomas, Heatmiser, and the Artic Monkeys.

Just got done with Weasel's 2 hour mix.  Maybe Marco and I can hold hands while we drink gin and listen to his mix next?? (actually not sure who is up next on my sheet).

My wife and daughter are at a concert tonight and I'm watching hoops and listening to mixes.  I'll listen to your mix next as well. Should make for a fun evening.  Especially with gin. You'll probably need to obtain another bottle, somehow, though.

I might have to dip into my wife's wine.  :X

I decided to put your's on.  It was one that I noticed I didn't know many of the songs, and I guess I was in the mood for some new music.

To paraphrase Mr. Trump  - my bracket was about to explode, but last night it imploded with the UCLA and WI losses, so #### March Madness.

I listened to Marco's mix too. I like a lot of the stuff Marco likes. The only song I didn't really care for on his mix was by Mission of Burma.  It was the first, and probably the last I will ever hear them.    :P  Songs I didn't know that I like a lot are from the artists Starflyer 59, Eels, Super Furry Animals, and Modest Mouse.

   so far that's my fave of the mix.

Just glanced and thought the Daft Punk looked like a medley on a live album, and isn't one of the Dead songs only 2 words?
(Walk Me Out in The) Morning Dew is the official title.  I just used a live version.

The Prime Time of Your Life was my Daft Punk song.   I used the live version to make it more fun which was a mashup.

Ok.  I'll let it slide...... this time.  ;)

I'm drunk after being at a hockey game but my wife is awake and hanging out on the couch with me. I'm not saying I'm going to encourage her to go to bed so I can listen to mixes and drunk post in here but I'm not not saying that....

I think regardless of next draft theme I should do all metal and title it ####### Pucker.
I should probably just do drinking songs....  I was thinking earlier with the Arkells and Hip love my mixes have gotten I should probably do another all Canadian mix, it's where my knowledge and songs other people don't know as well best intersect but I don't want to use the same shtick every time. I'm probably due though.

I didn't have to do anything, apparently it's bed time (not for me).

I think we've reached this point of the night.

I'm drunk, I'm drunk.

And you're probably on pills

If we both got the same diseases

It's irrelevant, girl.

You know what they say, it's 8:42 somewhere. After a day in the sun for multiple softball games it's time for some rum and cokes. Cheers!
