I’m no expert, but I don’t think that’s a legal play.

That scene has always bugged the hell out of me. First of all, why are they playing a night game with no lights? Second, he breaks like three tackles before he even goes for the gun. That was his plan? What if the first guy had brought him down? Then, after he's already shot like five people, the cops run onto the field with guns drawn and just stand there staring at him while he blows his brains out. They don't even tell him to drop the gun!

I think he pulled the defender down by the facemask after they were both out of bounds which is why they called it.
