Movies currently in theaters - Worth going? Stay home? Rent later? (1 Viewer)

The Fall Guy was...not good.

It never gains any momentum and the awkward interplay between the main characters is just clunky.

My wife said she enjoyed it because "it's supposed to be dumb". I get that but I just lost patience with it about half way through.

See it in the theater? Not necessary
Rent it? I guess, but I won't watch it again.
The Fall Guy, while not an award winning movie, was entertaining. I had low to medium expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

Okay, so as for the actual movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes...

I thought it was great!

I worried that it would be too long at 2.5 hours but it wasn't. The story was solid, bordering on epic. The villain is pretty good.

But what impressed me most was the special effects. This movie looks awesome. The CGI faces are incredibly expressive. One of the things that's notoriously difficult is hair and not only does it look natural, it does so when in water as well. That means, the effects blend and aren't a distraction - which is what you want.

It's set up well for a sequel, if we get one.

See it in the theater?: Yes!
Rent it?: Most definitely, especially if you liked the first three at all.

Just got back from Furiosa. Meh...
Really? Bummer. I was actually going to try to get to the theater for this one as I loved Fury Road.
I have to qualify that with I'm not a huge MM fan anyway and didn't see Fury. My son saw Fury and said it was much better than this one. Lots of complaints about the CGI. Personally I'm not a fan of the "gimmick" of removing frames or "undercranking" to give it the jittery/sped up look. It seemed excessive or overly noticeable in this one. All that said, it still highly rated on RT and it's 2+ hours of almost non-stop action so not a terrible $6 afternoon movie with free popcorn.

One more thing about Fall Guy...

You know that poster from back in the day with Heather Thomas in the hot tub wearing the pink bikini?

When you see the mid-credits scene just remember - that was about 40 years ago. :sadbanana:

Not that I've seen it yet but seeing the 70 year old version will no taint the 25 year old version!@3!@##!@

Alien: Romulus

There are several conveniences to get the story going but once it does it actually and surprisingly works.

Cailee Spaeny, the lead actress, was actually quite good.

See it in the theater? Not necessarily
Rent it? If you like the franchise, yes

I enjoyed it
if you liked Fury road Im not sure how you dont like Furiosa. Wall to wall action - thought Hemsworth did well.
I started it and just felt it was meh. I thought Hemsworth looked goofy. Plan to give it another try soon.

I actually preferred Furiosa over Fury Road. I know I’m in the minority, but Fury Road felt like one long chase scene and I got restless after a while. Furiosa on the other hand seemed to be more complex with different camps strategizing against one another.

If you are a fan of the franchise, I would definitely try to catch this one in the theaters.

I enjoyed it but I was also watching on Max for free.

I liked both but I think Fury Road was the better movie. It was more realistic if that’s appropriate to use. There were a few times in Furiosa where there was too much magic movie stuff. Fury Road stayed a bit more in line with the rest of the Mad Max movies and Furiosa had some Michael Bay in it. Again, I liked both.

It’s nitpicking TBH. I liked Hemsworth and it was a fun movie. Hard to have non-stop action without trying to pull off huge action scenes that stretch too far.

Transformers One

This is a surprisingly good movie. Plenty of humor and the action in the last 30 minutes is terrific. Showing Megatron's path to bad guy was done well. I enjoyed it as did my 8 year old nephew.

See in theater?: At least worth a matinee
Rent it: For sure if you're into Transformers. Yes even if you're not
