I'm going to masturbate in here like others are with rap music. One of the biggest influences on my musical life.

For this one 

#100: LL Cool J - I Shot Ya (Remix) each person on the song gave their best verse of all time - including Keith Murray.

This was Foxy Brown's debut on any album. This was known as an MC Hammer diss at the time and if you look into the history of MC Hammer, word is he had most of the bloods in California behind him and would retaliate when he was joked on in song. Tupac actually thought this diss was aimed at him and it took years to squash that beef. LL also had a famous beef with Kool Moe Dee but this song was not directed at him either. Prodigy had the weakest verse but RIP Prodigy

This song got forgotten but has one of the best best bassy synths in the history. That hook is so good.

I dont know a lot of the backstory here with Domino but I know he was a crip and a lot of his lyrics were quoted later in Snoop and Dre songs. "Ghetto Jam" was his breakthrough song but didn't hokd up.

I know you were just laughing (and you should!). Was hoping for more participation, honestly I'm not offended by anything, but we aren't getting a lot of steam. I did this with 500 songs years ago like I said, and I think demographically FBGs is not the place to be honest. I'll sleep on it because I do try to put in a lot of thought in the write ups. I am prone to typos. J vs Jay is a little nitpicking but also being told I'm not the person for this job was actually a little crappy. Will sleep on it. thanks for the kinds words friendo!

ETA: I also feel bad I filtered out my underground hip hop spreadsheet for this. I wanted to keep it a little more mainstream to "Mass Appeal" to a bigger audience,.e.g. Immortal Technique has a spot in my favorite songs but it's just not something that most non hip hop heads have ever heard

By the way, the hip hop heads will come out and some already poked their noses in here. Their opinion might differ at times, but that's to be expected in the soup.

Yikes.  You should know that gentle ribbing will come with any subjective Top 100 list (especially in hip hop).  Being scared to death and scared to look is no way to navigate life.

If you're trying to accommodate FBGs by posting a watered down list that won't work either.  Post what you think are the best 100 songs.  I think Dance With The Devil and Leaving The Past have a place on most lists. 

In regards to traction in this forum, it's mostly a collective of old white guys who didnt grow up listening to hip hop so participation will be limited to a core group.  I'd say post your list, maybe 10-25 at a time to speed up the process.

Probably best show I've ever been too, and not only because I was higher than a kite.  Pharcyde opens, 311 in the middle, topped off by some Cypress Hill.  Man oh man.

Oh, that was in 1996 or 1997 I believe.

I got turned on to Immortal Technique on this board probably 15 years ago. The lyricism is impressive, but at some point you need a hook.

Also, your post is "my favorite," not the best 100.

Whenever I hear Doin' It by LL, I remember dancing with my freshman girlfriend at a frat party. It's probably my favorite LL song, even though it isn't the best LL Cool J song by a mile.
Never had a friend like me is almost all hook, but it makes me think of one of my best friends as we were both driftless in our early twenties.
What's your favorite is subjective. Own it and F the haters.

That remix is a banger. Honestly that beat is so recognizable, when I heard it on an Ashanti song 15 years later I thought Ashanti was actually good.
