My Fitness Pal (1 Viewer)

I'm in the lose 20-30 pounds of beer&burrito fat mode right now. Mfp has me set to around 1600 cal/day. It is easy to hit as long as I run or skip alcohol/fast food but I don't think I could live like this forever.

What daily calorie target are you fatasses at, do you raise that number once you hit your weight goal?
I'm at 1900 trying to lose a pound a week I think.

Once you hit your goal weight, change your goal to lose 0 pounds per week and it will give you your daily caloric intake to maintain.

I'm at 1810. Basically, I need to exercise like crazy OR skip alcohol. If I exercise and drink alcohol I pretty much just hit par.

I've been using this for a couple of days. Tracking the calorie intake is interesting...and depressing. Things I've realized:

  • Hummus is not good for you. I does have protein and better for you than say a cheese dip, it has a lot of fat, carbs and calories.
  • Baby carrots are pretty much the perfect snack. You can eat 12 baby carrots and only consume 35 calories.
  • 0% Greek yogurt (Fage) is another winner. One cup is 130 calories but contains only 9 carbs and 23 grams of protein!
  • If you need a dip, Sabra cumber & dill dip (Greek style yogurt) offers low calories, some fat but equal carbs/protein
  • When eating pork, go for the loin. Dramatically less fat than the rest of the critter
Love to hear what everyone else has discovered
-Hummus is fine. It's a Low GI carb with a good macro profile. You can do alot worse. Avacados are another option in a dip.

-You can eat celery and eat negative calories as it takes more energy to digest the stuff than it gives you in energy. I think carrots probably fall closer to 0 calories than 35, as do most vegetables. The way we count calories from vegetables is broken imo.

-2% has less sugar than 0% and tastes a hell of a lot less like chalk to me

-What are you dipping?

-That's true for any loin cut of any animal, fyi.

So which is the healthier trade off? Sugar or fat?

I've lost 30 lbs since 12/27 and using My Fitness Pal. I'm ahead of my pace there by a bit, but I'm trying to keep my caloric intake + exercise totals pretty constant so that I don't feel like I am changing anything when I hit my target weight. I know that I'll be doing more vigorous exercise soon so my progress should be fairly consistent even though my BMR is dropping every lb I lose.

I am doing pretty low carb, basically just avoid any refined carbs, starting to branch into things like coconut and almond flour.

Almond Milk with like EAS Vanilla shake mix is the bomb. I am new to the milk of the Almond, but I dig it.

I would always take more fat over sugar. MFP sets a hard limit on sugar as well, it's hidden but they hard limit it to 50g a day and track it on packaged foods like this and wherever you enter it.

If you are using runkeeper (a few others do it to) you can sync with mfp and as soon as your activity is finished it plugs in calories burned on mfp. Technology

Skipped dinner, and Im on my 4th rum and diet.

woo hoo, I've still got another 1300 kcals(or about 6 more drinks)

This diet thing is easy

I've been at 1200 since day one. I augment it with exercise so typically have about 2000 a day. Have lost about 50lbs so far and just ran a 50k yesterday (which got me an extra 5000 calories for the day ;) )

I am at 1350. I set it to lose 2lbs a week. If I go over 1-200 cals here and there it's not going kill me. Heading to the gym in a bit to hit the recumbent bike and lift some weights.

1810…what do you weigh, sounds like you are already under 200 lbs. I used to use the app and it helped a lot. At one time I was 300 lbs which is nuts considering I am not really what society likes to deem big bone despite my 6-2 frame. I was alway thin almost too thin as a kid and then went the other way in my mid 20s. I still drift around 250 and then I will reel it in and go on a kick until I am back down to around 215-220 but would like to get all the way under 200 again.

I still maintain that when I lose weight I am doing moderate exercise including 30-60 minute walks as time allows but I have found even if time is short, a 30 minute walk briskly makes a huge difference, I can burn off a lot of empty calories I may have consumed(like I'm not responsible for that) on a weaker day. And I also am a big proponent of massive amounts of water to flush your system and it's a natural appetite suppresser for me, makes a big difference whether I gorge or not…and again I know people will cackle but sometimes people mistake hunger for actual thirst or dehydration. Hunger you feel in your throat not your tummy.

Tough weekend for me. In laws were in town. A lot of cheese and meats, bacon and pancakes. Afraid to get on the scale tomorrow am

Get out and go for a walk/jog, flood water into the system and flush it out. Eat a lot of fresh fruit and veggies the next 48-72 hours and try to avoid meat, go with different proteins or eat fish for a couple days.

Hey, I am back on track with the program. My user name on MyFitnessPal is amoxy.

Exercise has been out for me the past couple of days. It is raining pretty hard (walking is my main exercise) and I am down with a cold. Hopefully both will let up in the next couple of days.

And does anybody have a trick to avoid the late night munchies? I am not toking, but my willpower starts to wane after 6-6:30 and I will binge eat. I do fine up until then. I try to drink lots of water to fill up and that helps sometimes, just wondering anybody has other tricks

I joined. My fitness goal is a pound and a half per week. I think that's really a reasonable "lifestyle" type of goal. I did recalibrate my goals a bit though to have more of a protein heavy macro profile. I find this helps my stay under my caloric goals as it's tough to eat north of 125 protein in a day without breaking into the meat sweats.

Your Diet Profile

Calories burned from normal activity 2530/day

Net Calories Consumed: 1850

Daily Caloric Deficit: 680

Projected Weight Loss: 1.4 lbs per week

Seems pretty reasonable. Puts me under 200 lbs in about 3 weeks, under 193 (graduation weight) about 6 weeks later.

Shooting to get to about 170-175lbs before wifes birthday in June.

I'm in the same boat as culdeus. I got an email about the group, but I see nothing on the app to join...

Just to update my fitness self. I got down to about 187... from 205ish.... Was working out 3 or 4 days a week.

Started a new job, so I don't work out at lunch anymore :kicksrock: , ripped my right arm apart , ok it's really bad tendonitis but I can't lift a thing with it, slowly put weight back on.

Cam back from vacation and am at 204 again. I said I would never be over 200 again!!!

Don't even care about losing muscle just want to fit in my old clothes :bag:

Has anybody used a Wii Fit? Found one on sale for $40 and the kids have said they wanted one. But I'm wondering if it could actually be useful to me?

Eat Paleo for 30 days. Done.

I should have scrolled back several pages before posting up again, some incredible stories in here. Some of you are pretty brave to share them.

I have 1 good story…so i was a hardliner for a bit when it came to working out with my wife…I HATE IT!!! I like to do a fairly fast paced walk and my wife likes to do more of a slower paced walk, I'm 6-2, she's 5-3 with lifts. Takes her 3 steps to match my 2 steps. And in the past we don't get along when we jog or walk together because she will stop in the middle which I regard as a absolute sin…she does this anytime she finds a flower she likes, a cat/dog on the loose, money.

Well last night she wanted to walk with me and sync up our phones so that we were listening to the same music while we are walking. I really didn't want her to come, I've been getting back into the swing of things, lost a good 5-10 lbs this past week/week and a half and I got things rolling. So this time I decide that in order for us to maintain about the same pace or stay together on the walk that I would simply circle back if I got more than say a half block ahead and just not make a big deal out of it and then i don't have to stop for her to catch up and I'm actually getting more steps in so she's in a roundabout way helping me.

At first I could tell it was a bothering her a tad but then she started picking the pace up and then after a while she understood what I was doing and we suddenly were in sync for a bit. Now this last part is just pure coincidence but would you believe she found a $10 bill as we were walking around the park in our little community? We decided to take that $10 and start our 15 year anniversary vacation fund for 2015 in hopes that we will be able to travel and get away somewhere nice.

I'm cheering you guys on and it seems like there's a lot of folks trying to help others in here. I can say that when I was at my thinnest that life was a lot more fun, it really was/is. Thankfully I don't have quite as far to go this time but hitting those 40 inch jeans again was really bumming me out. Good luck everyone on your journey, I'll report back after I make some more progress.

Update:

I am down 140, doing 5-6 sets of pushups daily with a grand total of 100-120 and 27 straight being my new PB. I recently bought this and could not believe how incredibly difficult it was to to chin ups. I started attempting chin ups three weeks ago and couldn't come close to doing one. I am now up to 4 sets with a grand total of 14-16 and 5 straight is my PB.

I was doing some chin ups yesterday afternoon before I showered and the wife stopped me and asked if she could take a picture of my arms/shoulders. I blushed.

Great job. What's your actual weight now and are you at your goal? You can certainly get a great workout doing bodyweight stuff. 5 chin-ups is probably more than 90% of the American males older than 21 could accomplish. Keep it up!

Mix in a few lawnmowers and deadlifts to increase your pull up reps. You'll be shocked at the gains you'll get using those.

basic, lunge position, pull weight from ankle up to rib cage area while "twisting".... basically like starting a lawnmower.no pinching your fingers together and mock turning a key is not a lawnmower

Interesting. So almost a burpee but with weights? I will to see if the doc will clear that one. I am supposed to stay away from free weights.

I am currently in a 36 inch waist down from a 52 (yes I was a complete fat ###) but I am sure in suit I would be 38.

no not close to a burpee. do a side lunge and hold that lunge.s o for example, right leg is bent, left leg straight in a lunge position. right hand on right hip.

left hand then pulls weight from, right ankle up to your waist while twisting. switch for other side. not sure about it with a bad hip
