My Morning Jacket (1 Viewer)

That show was bananas. Literally. Z was awesome throughout, but the closing 21 minute Dondante was EPIC. Don't remember the whole encore but I do know The Who's Quick One (awesome), Prince's I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, Funkadelic's Hit it or Quit it were played. Sick. They closed with Careless Whisper. And at the end Jim James and the band threw Bananas into the crowd, exhorting us to sing along to the outro. Was hilarious and awesome. James added a spirited spoken word support of George Michael. Abrantes made it in, and I'm pretty sure he enjoyed the #### out of the show. Sitting here in a bar having a beer. Still have a smile on my face. This week has been amazing.
 the middle/end sax solo with JJ laying down some wicked little syncopated #### was magic. And I gotta say, I've haven't felt the whole "communal" thing with music in a LONG time like I did last night during Wordless Chorus. thousand people screaming their fool heads off to literally, a wordless chorus, just cause it sounds so cool.ears still ringing. :banned:

And so it ends...

99 songs and one repeat (more on that later)

Got there a bit earlier (about 7:20) and found the group that I now call my My Morning Jacket Family

Just an awesome group of peeps who I hung with all week

They ushered me over and I was right behind the rail, dead center

AWESOME

Such a wonderful sense of community...there was a mom and 16 yr old son to my right...He was awesomely knowledgeable about MMJ and music, and was uber excited

A band called Everest opened, and they were tremendous...really got us ready for the show

MMJ came out about 15 mins earlier than they had (about 9:15), and I have to say, Evil Urges is MUCh better live, especially the back half

We were partying and grooving and having a great time

Was a awesome excitement the whole night

Encore came quick and they started with Circuital and Friends Again, two new songs that sounded AWESOME

Then they played Carried Away, another new songt that Carl sings...again, really liked it

They played a sweet song (wonderful) that JJ wrote with M Ward)

Then it was on

Tonight I want To Celebrate With You >> Oh Sweet Nuthin (Jeebus, 2 VY covers this run??!?!?!? SICK)>> Hot Fun in the Summertime >> Carnival TIme

Then they broke out Move On Up and it was sick

I thought it was over as the band left the stage, but the house lights didn't come on...

After a minute they came back out and ripped through a jubilant, triumphant, spectacular One Big Holiday (the week's only repeat) that brought the house down

So amazing..I will remember this week the rest of my life...it was that special

Met some new friends, saw some amazing music, and most importantly reaffirmed the positive power of music and community

I hope they release these officially, but there is a ton of good stuff on you tube

Go get it!

In the aftermath of T5 i have been revisiting Evil Urges, and while it might not be as good as MMJ's other stuff, it is really growing on me

Some great tunes there...especially like the Aluminum Park >> Remnants >> Smokin from Shootin triptych

They rock Voodoo fest tomorrow

Long live MMJ!

Haven't heard from Kenny Powers ...Hope he's been enjoying this as much as I did
Sorry man, missed your PM and was basically computerless the entire week. Was pretty much living off the memories and recollections of the week in NYC and this is the first time Ive been on here since then :(You had a pretty good night to night summary, but damn, every night was fantastic and brought something different to the table in its own way. My highlight can be summrized in 3 words though: Miss You > Cobra...Was hoping for a full Cobra and that #### was ridiculous.Either way, unbelievable week and 1 of the best of my life. I was at McGees every night so we may have met or crossed paths. Im Scotty aka capt. headdy over on the MMJ forum...I also was the guy who called out the opener every night, and by request the 2nd half of the week :bag:

New album is streaming over at NPR ....

..and right here

I was trying to hold out until next week so I could listen to it on a good sound system for the first listen, but Im probably gonna give in and just listen on the laptop. Most FBGs dont seem to be liking it all that much, but the reviews are unanimously positive over on MMJ's forum.

It is growing on me. The first 3 tunes are very solid imo (and almost have a "movie sound track" type vibe to me - Victory Dance in particular  ) Black Metal is pretty groovy too. Should be a few cool tunes to incorporate into their live show.

theyre replaying later tonight and a few more times this week and noted in that post

Its no It Still Moves and I'll need to give it a few more listens, but I really liked it after 1 listen. As far as consistency and feel as an album, its light years better than Evil Urges...The opener, Victory Dance, is ####### bad ###.

Going to see them June 28th....better get the new album and listen to it since they will probably be playing a bunch of tracks off of it.

Unstaged was awesome...I'll have to watch it again this weekend but I think Im going to end up thinking its a better show/recording than Okonokos.

Cant wait for Storytellers tonight.

story tellers on. interesting so far. they're out of their element, but hearing Jim James talk about stuff is very interesting, as awkward as it is.

Thats how JJ is...He can tell the dumbest story, or the most profound story, and make it sound like gospel. Dondante is definitely about his friend though, and hearing him tell that was worth everything.Speaking of storytellers, JJ had some great lines on tuesday during Unstaged

Is the complete unstaged thing available anywhere? I see there's snipits on the youtoobs.

Can't wait for ACL, been too long since I've seen them. Loved watching the Mountain Jam set last night. Phone Went West was incredible and they are just destroying Steam Engine live - spinetingling. Like the new album more with each listen. For my money, this is the very best band in the world right now...

Id say almost certainly, but I dont think the whole thing is available right now. I think theyre probably working out the kinks song by song, it seems like more songs are available by the day. They put way to much time and effort into setting the whole thing up - as did Todd Haynes filming it - for it not to. Id be surprised if it doesnt end up as a DVD

MMJ's Bonnaroo set will be broadcast live here Friday night at 9:15 EST.

ETA: Okay, the "insert link" tag isn't working. So go here: www.VEVO.com/bonnaroo

Feels odd they arent going to be playing a saturday late night set, but I'll definitely be watching this tonight. If there's anything consistent about the Roo, its that MMJ always delivers the best set of the weekend when theyre there

slayed it. phish is firing on all cylinders, but if these guys were playing in town on the same night, i don't know what i'd do.

The extended version (hour and a half) of this was on Palladia last night. Good stuff. They're playing it again today at 2 eastern.

I'm going to see these guys in a couple weeks at the Fox Theater in Oakland, awesome venue but I'm not too familiar with their music. Is there a consensus on, let's say, their 2 best albums?

Get "Okonokos" for sure (live album) and it's loaded with songs from "Z" and "It Still Moves" which are the studios you'd probably want. So I guess that narrows it down to "Circuital" (the new one) or "Evil Urges"...I'd probably go with the new disc since they'll be playing a handful or more of those. I think this is pretty sound advice, but the experts here might differ on this, I'm a bit newer to the greatness.

Just realized I recorded and watched most of the 60 minute version which is fantastic so far. Looks like the extended is on again this Wednesday night on Palladia.

The entire 3+ hour performance is available to watch on-demand now until tomorrow night at 11:59pm ET. Link

Ive never been a fan of recommending live albums as a first listen, but if youre limiting it to 2 albums, its tough not to. I think It Still Moves is their masterpiece, followed by At Dawn. Youre bound to hear a lot of songs from Z and the new one, Circuital, this tour. I guess you'd get a good idea of what you'll hear live from Okonokos since they dont switch their setlist up all that much, but you cant go wrong with any of those 4 albums either.

Now that the Bruins are up 4-0 in the first, think Im gonna fire this up and let my more technically versed Jacket friends d/l it and snatch it from them.Id still be surprised if it doesnt end up an official DVD.

:goodposting: ISMoves and At Dawn are my two favorite studio efforts.

Shouldve posted this earlier, but yet another MMJ show is live streaming tonight (just started, 2 songs in, playing Circuital NOW).

here

No video, just audio, but the sound quality is much better than Bonnaroo. Plus, Id expect a couple songs that havent been in the rotation yet, hopefully.
