My Top 25,000 Songs (1 Viewer)

Are you guys forking serious? You have a spreadsheet of 25k songs?

These lists would be a lot more interesting if you could only pick one song per artist.
Sounds like a new thread.
We actually did a collective list a couple years ago. I've been working on my own since then.
I'd kind of like to do one with maybe "your 200 top songs - and a max of 2 per group/artist" would have to discuss overlaps, like Beatles vs. Lennon or Harrison, etc.
Read and enjoy.
Yeah, I had forgotten about that thread. The discussion is entertaining, but restricting. Would like to see everyone's individual lists. Not sure I'm ready for that kind of effort right now, but certainly different that that thread. (Will definitely re-review though, lots of good stuff in there).

Sorry you didn't like the Sex Pistols - it still holds up pretty damn well after all the years. I don't have that kind of piss and vigor these days, but still turn it up a few times a year.

ETA: ...pretty drunk right now and finishing up a pretty crappy thin crust pizza. Wishing for a Marion's.

I have an aunt who's only about 6 years older than me. She went to some kind of chef's university in the mid-70s in Europe. I remember her coming home for a holiday (may have been Thanksgiving) and, knowing I loved music, put this record on the HiFi. It was "Anarchy In The UK". I had never heard anything like it, nor had I hated anything quite as much. I was still in my Art Rock Snob phase (though George Clinton was already shaking me out of THAT coma) and the Pistols sounded like #### to my more refined ears. I thought my father was going to go get a gun and shoot the damned record player.

It's funny, though. I'm still not crazy about the Pistols, but "Anarchy" doesn't sound a bit dated these days. That's something I can't say about Yes.

Sorry, I was thinking of the Stranglers. I did a quick search to see if I posted in that thread before it rang a bell. i didn't bother to see if the Pistols made it in - pretty strict regs on the list.

Is there enough interest for 20 or so people to put out their top 200 or so - no more than 2 songs per band? Line up on Spotify for playlist listening.

Going to make a real effort to update the dead youtube links on the Bender top list and keep the list expanding as well.

A lot of the links are dead and the bottom half need linking as well. Maybe after the game tonight

I never would have guessed that blowing into a bottle was how they made that noise in this song: Mungo Jerry -

I'm your huckleberry if you can get enough serious players. I don't know what Spotify is, though
So we have 3 so far:

Binky

Reginald

Anyone else - no drafting required, just take a week or so to pull together your list - open to suggestions on how to line up playlists. I know Spotify won't have at least a few that will be on mine.

i'd have to figure all the tech stuff out but i could probably pull a nice list. Bender will have to remind me too

Sweet - maybe Bender would want to select a top 200 out of his 25K+

Gotta stick with just one song per artist.

But why do you need for a certain nujber of people to do this? Just post it.

Why? If I think all of Grand Funk's songs are worthy, why should I only be able to post "Shinin' On"? It's not a draft.

Somebody tell me if they think I'm getting near 25K and I will go back and start organizing this list. In the meantime, here comes more random.

Soft Machine - Moon in June. Prog rock is great when done right, which is rare. These guys nail it, which is appropriate because I think they more or less created the genre.

Soft Machine - Out of Season

Pete Yorn - Rock Crowd

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Moanin' ... Depending on my mood, this song might be ranked #1 when my list is complete.

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Four Flights Up ... I will always like this band more than anyone else. Time and place and all that.

Brian Jonestown Massacre - The Way it Was

BJM - Anenome

BJM - Swallowtail

BJM - Open Heart Surgery

Mark Lanegan - Carry Home

Ray Wylie Habbard - Gypsies Got a Right to Steal

RWH - Locos Gringo's Lament

RWH - Wanna Rock n Roll ... Everything on the youtubes pales compared to seeing this song played live at Cibolo Creek Country Club

I am ok either way, or we can split the difference, that way it forces more artists so we could do 150 artists (50 doubles) - how does everyone else feel? No rush, since it isn't a turn-based draft type deal.

No we don't need a minimum but would be nice to have more than 10 participating.

Right now, no rules, just discussion. I was thinking rock/punk/motown/etc rather than jazz, classical but everything is open at this point. Ideally it would be something relatively cohesive that people may want to play all the way through.

Do these crack your top 50?

Bobby "Blue" Bland - Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City

David Ruffin - My Whole World Ended

Still a contender for greatest song of all time.

Love that Bobby Blue Bland song Mister CIA. Not so keen on The Ruffin cut. (checking out the third now)

Just peeking into this thread now. "Love TKO" is the jam.

Buffalo Springfield deserves a little more love in this thread.

Rock and Roll Woman - a nondescript gem.

Mr. Soul - Was my go to "I'm high" song for about 6 months back in 1982.

Questions - The sound of this song moves me.

Bluebird - I would not argue if somebody nominated this top 100. It's a standalone work of art.

As a fan of pop/rock music, I've been way too dismissive of Stephen Stills when I should have been thanking him.

I want to list all my favorite Replacements songs here, of which at least 25 are deserving, but I choose to take the lazy way out and instead bait Limp Ditka to do my heavy lifting. I bring the ###, you bring the tat, LD.
