If dumping Smith means keeping Monroe, it makes sense for Detroit. It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Wouldn't they be getting rid of $12 mill in mostly worthless players for a $14 mill player that, up until last year in a predictably terrible situation, was a flawed but useful player?Ugh. Adding Smith would be indefensible. Thompson is overpaid but the Kings aren't offloading enough salary to have that deal make even a little bit of sense.Maybe if they throw Landry in, but even then it doesn't make basketball sense.I saw the rumor was for Derick Williams and Jason Thompson. Which makes a bit more senseAs long as they aren't sending that #8 pick for Smith (or future 1sts), it's not the worst thing in the world.
Though, I bet that's exactly what they are doing, so obviously, that's stupid.
It never looks good trading for a guy that was a free-agent 11 months ago. If you wanted him so bad, why not just overpay him then, instead of giving an asset for him later.
And holy ####, SAC is on the hook for $66 million with that team already?![]()
I think it'd be worth a shot that a move back to his more effective position could bring out the best in him.
If they could somehow squeeze Landry in there too, then it would be an amazing move. I can't believe DET would be that dumb though. The Williams/Thompson deal is pushing it.
The best part to this story is that the Kings think having Smith makes Sac a respectable option for Rondo's free agency next offseason.
The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in new unrestricted free agent LeBron James. While we could likely write this same blurb for 29 other teams now that James has officially opted out of his final two years, the Lakers are hoping to meet with James while "moving cautiously." The Lakers are also reportedly interested in Carmelo Anthony, but indications are that they're more interested in acquiring James' services. While James would have to take a pay cut in order to join the Lake Show, the Lakers could waive Steven Nash' contract via the stretch provision and James could also be swayed by the perks that would come with playing in Hollywood.
