It sounds like a horrible idea, but hell, it can't get any worse. This is a league where 70 YO's that have never GM'd get tapped to save a franchise from the other coast, and being a former PG makes you worth $5 mill/year as a coach.

Anyway, that's what made the J-Smoove rumors even more odd. There's no player stat geeks hate more than him. Well, it's between him and Rudy Gay

Why is it a horrible idea? They either give you an interesting analytical angle or they don't, but it doesn't cost you anything either way. All upside.

I was kidding about the horrible idea part. I like it.It might make it easier to mock SAC if things go bad, but I like the idea.

Even though I'd like to think the new leadership knows what they are doing, as a long suffering fan I'm expecting another Jimmer-esque trade.

Am I the only one who really doesn't like Smart?

BTW, if today is normal behavior for Marcus Smart, he is going to be a hated player in the NBA. What a drama queen. He had the "fall like you've been shot after shooting an uncontested three" down pat. While tumbling to the ground after getting fouled in a dunk attempt, he pulled Embiid on top of him then pulled his arms way back to sell Embiid as the aggressor. He curled off a screen and threw himself to the ground to draw Wiggins's second foul in the first half. While guarding Selden on one late play, he slapped Selden in the stomach, then slapped him in the nuts, then fell like he was Michael Spinks after a Mike Tyson uppercut when Selden cleared out the space with his elbows. And he was #####ing to the refs constantly.

I don't remember that kind of attitude from him last season, but it's not isolated; at K-State a couple weeks ago, he slapped the backboard after a dunk, drawing a technical for his 4th foul early in the second half, triggering a K-State rally in a game OSU should have won easily but lost.

This post was made a few weeks before he got into that shouting match with a Texas Tech fan seated courtside that escalated into Smart throwing a punch at the fan. ETA: or this sequence against Iowa State where he flopped twice against DeAndre Kane on the same drive.

There's a great player trapped inside Marcus Smart, but IMO it comes with too much baggage. He's got locker room lawyer and coach killer written all over him. And I am just at draftniks talking about what a "winner" Smart is. His theatrics cost his team several winnable games this season and dragged a team talented enough to challenge for the Big XII title and a 2-3 seed down to middle tier of the conference and the NCAA bubble.

I do agree that part of Embiid's fall (which I think will be quite severe) has to do with the teams themselves.

This is the best draft in a decade. A lot of these teams feel like they can't come out of this with the next Oden. Not when the cost is likely a good player. It's not an impatience thing though. It's just a long-term injury risk.

I'm not sure it's a job security thing either, because for most of these teams, I'd bet the owner ends up getting the final say on Embiid anyway.

I don't even want CHA to fool with him at 9. I really, really hope he's gone. Right or wrong, I'll have a hard time believing that the Hornets just got the steal of the century, and won't have much doubt that they just drafted a man not meant to play basketball.

I'd guess some of that is true for the entire Top 10, except for BOS/LA. Those fans would all think something brilliant just happened.

However, an NBA shooting coach will be starting from scratch teaching him to hit anything deeper than a free throw.IMO, Warren is a potential 6MOY candidate because he's such a clever scorer, but with broken shooting form and coming from a college system that didn't play defense, he's a ways from being a starter.

I don't know how good Exum will be but this sounds accurate:

We haven’t seen much, so we all think he’s great. With the other guys, we built them up pre-draft, then spent months picking them apart. Exum avoided all of this.

McAdoo has been falling pretty hard after since his soph campaign... He doesn't have the skill set or size to fit in. He'll be lucky if he is in the league in 3 or 4 years. Should've played his senior year out, won a national title, and improved his stock as best as he can since it can't get much worse.

I think teams are turned off by his lack of size for a 2. If the Bulls keep their picks, I believe they'd take him at 16. Rumors are they want one of shooters - McDermott, Sauskas (sp?), or Harris. Harris is the only one with much of a chance of being there at 16.

So if Wade opts out and accepts 4/50 (or whatever), will he be forced to have to have another opt out in a few years when he regresses even further? I'm sure he'd do that too. After all, it's all about winning.
