*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (2 Viewers)

The deserving players are going to get to go. Injuries and whatnot tend to work themselves out. Kobe in New York in his final all star game is a better story than klay Thompson making it as a bench reserve for the first time.
What? No it's not.
It probably is to the people that watch the AS game. I don't understand why people get upset about the voting, its a popularity contest for an exhibition game. The most popular players should play. We have the All-NBA teams at the end of the year which should be for the deserving players.

OKC. I see two dudes who have not improved their game and a coach who is over his head.
Westbrook and Durant have both improved immensely. As far as mistakes by the franchise goes, keeping Brooks is way worse than trading Harden. This roster is easily good enough to win it all.

I don't watch them a lot but when I see Irving on Westbrook and Smith on Durant, give me an elbow shot at the minimum.

Agreed. People have been saying for years in this thread (Kev most prominently) that Durant isn't very good on offense without the ball. I think a lot of that falls on the coaches though. They rely wat too much on the individual brilliance of those two. They run plays but have no real offense and it kills them late in games against good defensive teams who dial it up. Doesn't help that there is almost slways at least one guy on the floor who is a zero on offense.

I would agree that's more on Brooks and the coaching staff than it is on Durant.

Um, no. I agree keeping Brooks around this long is a mistake, but trading away a top 10 player entering the prime of his career is way, way worse. Very few head coaches are true difference makers and unless the Thunder were going to land one of them the difference isn't as big as the difference between keeping Hardin and trading him for parts. Hardin is the best 2 guard in the league and single-handedly wins games. With Brooks and Hardin around, they'd have a title by now.

Who the hell is Whiteside?
His triple double today is the most improbable in a while. He absolutely looked legit doing it too.If the Heat stumbled across a meaningful rim protector moving forward, they could be a real tough out in the playoffs. Especially if Wade continues to play the way he is right now.
He's been playing VERY well for weeks. Just had a few games off for an ankle but he's been so much fun to watch. The Heat are just beginning to figure out how to get him into the offense....Wade has a pick and lob with Whiteside that's been effective but he'll only get better as Chalmers/Cole/Shabazzzzz get on the same page.

Huge bummer that the Heat didn't find him last year instead of GregO. I'm sure LeBron could have figured out how to get it to him at the rim...but Hassan is THE hype around the team here locally.
The Heat has among the best center play in the league with Whiteside and Andersen, but the worst PG play. Norris Cole has regressed, Mario is Mario and Shabazz needs more time. But yea, Whiteside is exciting to watch. Who owns his rights going forward?

Chad Ford has been retroactively editing draft boards for years

Apparently Chad Ford's final draft boards get changed years after the actual draft to make him look smarter. Every adjustment made after the fact has moved successful pros up in the draft, and busts down a few slots.

A bizarre practice, of course, and hard to believe ESPN thought they could get away with it. Even weirder since a lot of Ford's shtick is trying to predict the actual draft based on info from NBA front offices, not necessarily trying to rank who the best players will be years after the draft.

How embarrassing. Mostly b/c it shows poor judgement in that it was a huge risk for realitively no upside.

Doesn't Ford live on Oahu or Maui?

Oof.

Really odd

ESPN's standing by Ford, but apparently a lot of former ESPN staffers have told Deadspin that you have to use a personal login to make any edits to content, and that finding out who was making said edits wouldn't be difficult to do.

Whoops.

Too funny. Just further shows all these rankings should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Oahu. He's a professor at BYU-Hawaii. His academic background is in history and international conflict.

ESPN acknowledging the draft boards got changed and reverted them back to their draft night versions.

Ford says he had nothing to do with it. ESPN believes him, at least publicly.

BTW, LeBron's good at basketball and when he's healthy his team plays a lot better. Shocking I know.

Mozgov/Thompson is more than an acceptable C combo on the defensive end.

There are rumors that they had a chance to get Stevens a few years back, that's a pretty interesting what-if. I also love how you say "by now" like it's been some long period of time. We're talking about two years. Assuming the same injuries happen I don't see it.

Much ado about nothing. The fans that take the five seconds to vote are likely the ones most interested in the all star game. So it's fine they choose the starters.
Kobe starting over Harden was absurd.
so absurd one of the greatest players of all time was made a starter in what could be his last season
You don't get the lifetime achievement all star nod unless it is your last season.

Question: take an Uber from my hotel (by LAX) and catch the Clippers/Nugs by myself? Or sit in my hotel and keep drinking.

*I am going to the Lakers game tomorrow.

If you already bought the tickets you should go. If not you could probably skip it, the car ride could be lengthy. The real question is why are you stuck at a hotel near LAX?

Meeting in OC today, Burbank tomorrow, and LA LIve was 3x the price for some reason. If I were staying downtown I would go. Haven't bought the tickets yet. But I can get in for $10. What do beers cost at Staples?

Go to the Nuggets game and boo Shaw for me. I'm not willing to spend my money to go to a game here in Denver, so I can live vicariously through you.

Prior to his injury, why on earth would this have been his last season? He had 25 million reasons to play next year. Even after his injury, reports are that he plans to be back next year. So, yeah, absurd.

I thought staples was a bit of a pit compared to Toyota Cebter and the AT and T center. But the McDonald's is fairly priced. Beers were $10. Uber each way eas only 20.

The Toyota Center has got to be one of the premier areas around the league. I really like the Pepsi Center, but it had nothing on the experience of the Toyota Center. Those are the only two areas I've been in over the last decade so admittedly I don't have a lot to compare them too.

Kings arena (Sleep Train, formerly Arco) is hella old. Kind of dumpy. Mavs AAC is pretty nice.

OKC has a nice one, but kinda small. The stands basically go straight up, so even the highest farthest seats are still like right on top of the court almost.

If you're going again tonight you have my condolences. Wall has a"sore achilles" that mysteriously developed after the news of Kobe's surgery and Young's MRI, and Pierce will likely be out with a case of "old" as well. Wiz play tomorrow night in Phoenix, their fourth in five nights. It's gonna be a crapfest.
