Netflix Original: Stranger Things (1 Viewer)

Some people just aren't happy unless they are miserable.

or maybe some people just don't feel the endeavor has progressed to it's full potential?

it's lost a ton off it's fastball, imo, and has been in decline since s2 ... s1 was remarkable, one of the greatest in TV history.

so i should just stop watching now?

or do i continue watching because this production team has shown in the past that they're capable of phenomenal entertainment, and i'm interested in how they see this whole saga through?

(psssst - it's the latter).

as i queried yesterday, what makes this show the ONE entity in history that is above criticism?  aysfkm?

does thread read "STRANGER THINGS CIRCLE JERK - LET'S ALL ####### JIZZ UP IN HERE"?

i heaped praise on this when it merited praise ... but i'm not feeling it the past 2 seasons , dafuq is so hard to ascertain about that?

i believe there is terrific talent here, mostly the 2 young ladies. Ms. MBB & Ms. Sink carry every second they're on screen, dwarfing those muppets they're usually saddled with (except for Will, i think that kid brings it, too) whether i find the situations ridiculous or not ... they've shone brightly when the gig was awesome, and they soldier on with aplomb when it downright blows.

same for Winona & Harbour, the former draining every last drop outta the harried mom trope; the latter showing tremendous range and depth, even if his storyline thus far this season is laughable - at best.

The Sopranos is my favorite series of all-time ... but, believe you me, i pulled ####### hair out my COTdamn head, and trashed it all to hell during it's dead periods (the whole Carmela/FEEE-YORE fiasco most notably) ... there were legit lulls where i felt like a ####### sucker for investing the time i did.

but Sopranos s1 hooked me like none prior (or since), and s2 is the greatest single season in TV history, imo ... i knew Chase had the chops to polish it off with pizzazz, and i felt rewarded.

G.o.T., otoh, went straight in the terlit for me when Arya survived the gutting by the waif ... then leaped off the bridge, stumbled thru Bravos bleeding out ... then found her way to "the actress" who, wouldn't ya know it, knew how to stitch her back to normal.

the subsequent seasons went headlong into the ####ter, and the final 2 were trash heap central.

so, no reward there ... it was a total fail, especially in the wake of those incredibke first 3 seasons, culminating in the Red Wedding.

can Stranger Things regain that edge and brilliance i feel it's lost? of course it can, i've seen fantastic work from this lot ... so, i'll keep watching to see it through.

btw, seeing that they have 150 minute episodes on deck is a very promising harbinger for them to be dealing with some heavier #### than we've seen thus far - looking forward to it.

f'realz.

Damn, I don’t want to be there when the music stops. Looking forward to your review of the last two episodes to make sure we should like them!!1!! (Not sure if I did that correctly)

I will admit Dustin was a little annoying to me at first but know he is one of my favorites.

The show is great for some nostalgia with some nice character development.  The 80s horror throwbacks/knockoffs are great in S4. There are times when it drags but like any other show it has to set up the big moments sometimes.

My 18 y.o. son just binged the series in 2 weeks and exclaimed it's the best show he's ever watched.

Dustin is the shizzle my dizzles.  Him and Steve's buddy cop routine is :moneybag:

Prediction Spoiler:

It's going to be a sobfest when Dustin has to deal with Steve's heroic death (to save Nancy probably).

Too soon to start talking about the last 2 episodes?  Anyone know how to use spoiler boxes?

Not great, but greatly entertaining.  Thoroughly enjoyed the whole season.  I care about 90% of the characters.  I'm cheering for a 14 year old girl to save the world, and I cried when the 29 year old high school senior was redeemed.  Maybe I'm a maroon, but sign me up for another season of THAT.

Why is nobody talking about the Master of Puppets scene? That was ####### brilliant.
Speaking of this, isn't the upside down supposed to be "stuck" in 1983?  Master of Puppets was released in 1986.

ETA: Meh, never mind.  Eddie obviously was not stuck in 1983.  All good...

When he grabbed his guitar, I was so hoping that it was going to MoP. And what I found most impressive is when they showed the wide shot of Eddie playing the intro, he was actually fingering the riff/chords correctly. Awesome!!!

I loved the running joke that Eddie keeps failing to graduate.

Meh. Final two episodes were a big let down.
I thought the last two episodes were action packed and super tense. And I liked the fact that they spent a good amount of time (30 mins?) post-battle exploring the aftermath and setting up season 5.

I like that they didn’t just erase all the bad stuff with El’s powers. Sure, she stopped Max from dying, but it didn’t undo the 2 worlds colliding, it didn’t magically reverse Max’s limbs being jacked up like a box of dried spaghetti dropped on the floor or her blindness, and, she’s still in a coma.

Very cool because that is actually Joseph Quinn playing the main verse and chorus of the song. Read an article too that for the soloing, it is actually Trujillo’s (current bassist’s) son!

Here’s Quinn talking about it https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/stranger-things-joseph-quinn-guitar-exclusive-newsupdate/

“Yes, Joseph Quinn does play the guitar as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things 4.

"They texted me and they said, like, can you play the guitar?" he said. "I said yes. That was about two months into the pandemic, maybe three months, and then a month later, they sent me the last script.

"I was like 'Are you serious?' They were like, 'Yeah.' And I thought 'OK.' So I went and bought a guitar and then practised manically for months until we ended up shooting the thing."

Asked if it was mostly him playing, he confirmed it was but added that there were certain parts where he had to rely on a little expert help.

"I was trying to be realistic with kind of what I could do," Quinn explained. "Like I've been playing [guitar] since I was a kid but I'm no virtuoso. So I had most of the song down, but for the solo, we had to fly someone, a black belt metal guitarist, in to help with that. The rest of it? I had a stab at it, yeah.”

SPOILER AHEAD!!!

YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!!

They may indeed find a way to bring Max back in Season 5, but they indicated at the end of the finale that she’s gone. When El was holding her hand in the hospital room, she went into Max’s mind and Max wasn’t there, intimating that she’s brain dead. That’s why El was so destroyed.

SPOILER….

Yeah we’ve gotta (and I nearly guarantee going to) have a Max / Lucas emotional reunion scene.

The Duffers and Levy are really great at really creating those. Mike/El, Will/Joyce,  Kids/Will, Hopper/Joyce, El/Hopper.

Definitely have to be cueing that up! 👍🏻

Got through the first 3 seasons this weekend. Season 3 finale definitely the best episode of the series so far.   Season 3 was my favorite season.

I don't think it's the end of Max.  I think she's still stuck connected to Vecna, like half in our world and half still in the upside down.  I think Vecna's going to use her body or at least try to do that to get his physical form back.  His body was destroyed, and it's clear Max is still somehow connected to Vecna.  Also, look to the lyrics of the Kate Bush song:

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places

I think this is likely right. And great point about the lyrics!

You mad, bro?

SPOILER AHEAD!!!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

When Max’s leg fractured, that was one of the bigger gut punch moments I’ve experienced in a while. Because there was no way I thought it was going to happen.
When the first limb broke, I thought to myself "well, it will suck that she has a cast on, but at least we'll see her alive again", then the next limb broke and I was thinking "well, half of her body in a cast is going to be awful, but at least she will be saved soon" then the 3rd limb broke, and I was all like "how on earth did my 10 year old son who has never watched this show know that max was going to die".  Now I have no clue what to think
