New Orleans DEF... Sneaky Play? (1 Viewer)

I was just looking at picking up a DEF for this bye week and decided to go with the Saints this week against the Rams. After looking further at NO remaining schedule, they look like a possible play the rest of the year. Take a look at this upcoming schedule:

Sun 11/11 St. Louis (O-Line depleted, Rest of offense banged up)

Sun 11/18 at Houston (Schaub, Green, and AJ has bee ailing)

Sun 11/25 at Carolina (Who is their QB?)

Sun 12/2 Tampa Bay (Could put up points)

Mon 12/10 at Atlanta (Enough said)

Sun 12/16 Arizona (Kurt Warner is playing banged up and is prone to turnovers)

Sun 12/23 Philadelphia (McNabb has been erratic to say the least)

Sun 12/30 at Chicago (Griese and the boys have been dinner for the past couple weeks)

What does everybody else think?

I think the rested Rams could possibly put up a pretty good game against the Saints, although Bulger will certainly be sacked some with that offensive line.

Not a bad idea at all. Of course you have to factor in your scoring system, but they seem to be one of the better FA D/ST options out there in many leagues.

My Saints have been playing pretty darn good D after a slow start...I agree that the schedule is favorable, I think they will be a pretty good fantasy option.

That's what I thought too. I'm gonna keep them around for the stretch run.

New Orleans gave up 432 yards total offense against the Jacksonville Jaguars starting Quinn Gray. They are not a good start against anybody.

true, but you have to look at just more than total yards, as that can be deceiving... take PIT/BAL on MNF for example, where PIT had less than 300 total yards... unless your defensive scoring counts total yards against, you have to look a little deeper, IMO

If Seattle is not taken yet, they also have a similar easy schedule. I am in a 10 team league where most folks only have 1 starting defense and I picked them up before the Cleveland game (I knew that was a bad matchup, but did not have an extra roster spot for a 2nd, and luckily Nate returned a punt for a TD) because their second half is juicy. They have SF, CHI, STL, PHI, ARI, CAR, BAL, and ATL. I am hoping that Carr has recovered by week 15.

Unlike NO, SEA is a top 10 defense in my league, so probably have the better personnel to take advantage of an easier schedule. Also, I think SEA is a worse offense, so I think their games will be lower scoring and slower (i.e. no hurry up/pass only offenses).

I considered NO as a bye week filler for week 10, but -

I don't like the 13 sacks through 8 games. No pressure on the QB which makes interceptions harder to come by (as evidenced by only 3 int so far).

More useful units that might be on the WW (Sacks/Int/FR)

Detroit (@ Arizona) 24/14/10

Chiefs (v. Denver) 22/10/7

Cards (v. Detroit) 20/6/3

To be fair, all of their sacks have taken place after their Week Four bye, so they're improving. Not dominant, but definitely startable at this point, depending on your other options.

Seattle is a top 5 defense in my league so I cannot imagine they are available in many leagues.

FBG is drinking the Cajun Kool-ai: NO D ranked pretty high this week.

I picked them up a few weeks ago to help me through a rough stretch for the Colts D and they've been pretty solid.

Love their matchups moving forward. They have been consistent but not amazing the last 5 weeks.
