Bill Cowher is having his news conference right now. Here is the injury report:

Questionable - QB Roethlisberger (appendicitis), TE Tuman (hamstring), S Polamalu (shoulder)

Probable - WR Ward (hamstring), OT Starks (knee), WR Washington (knee)

Cowher said Ben will practice some tomorrow and they will see how he feels during the week. A decision on Ben's status as a starter will probably not be made until Friday or Saturday or it could be a game time decision.

I didn't realize that Polamalu was hurt.

Davenport could dress this week.

One last thing. Cowher was asked about the referees not seeing the challenge flag thrown by Saban (and on Sunday by Parcells).

Cowher said that it is the responsibility of the coach to get the attention of the refs. He said that a coach can walk to wherever an official is and even go on the field if necessary.

He said that he tells the officials right away when he is considering a challenge and the refs have warned him not to wait until the last few seconds before the snap.

Big Ben wants to play Monday night; Cowher cautious

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers coach Bill Cowher may not decide until this weekend if quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will start Monday night in Jacksonville.

The quarterback already seems to think he'll play.

Roethlisberger threw to some receivers Tuesday -- even though the Steelers did not formally practice -- and has told Cowher he wants to play in the team's only Monday night game of the season.

Roethlisberger sat out the Steelers' season-opening 28-17 victory over Miami on Thursday after having an appendectomy a week ago Sunday. He is listed as questionable for the Jaguars game, meaning there is a 50-50 chance he will play.

Cowher said he needs to see Roethlisberger in practice before making up his mind. He also said Roethlisberger must show he is comfortable and can protect himself.
