NFC Championship Game - Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals (1 Viewer)

So, what's the rule there? If the ball touches you, while you are out of bounds, is it out of bounds with you? It was not in his control.
Yes, if the ball touches you while you are out of bounds, even if the ball is in the field of play, it counts as a kick out of bounds. That's why it's always so stupid when players catch a kickoff near the sidelines. All they have to do is put one foot out of bounds when they catch it and they get the ball on the 40. Savvy returners do this. This is similar to the rule on a punt where once the kicking team touches the ball you can choose to take it at that spot or at the end of the play, so savvy returners try and pick it up after this even if they're surrounded by 5 defenders ready to hit them right as they pick it up, because even if you fumble and they run it back for a touchdown you can elect to take the ball where they initially touched it instead.

I am way late on this, but I was just going to post this. It looks like a lot of you agree.

"I know many are against instant replay, however, the NFL seriously needs to change that stupid rule that makes certain types of plays unreviewable. Seriously. What a bunch of crap on that kickoff."

Incomplete but wow, that should've been picked.

Eagles have had so many chances today, they just aren't executing even the simple stuff. Even the easy plays.

It doesn't matter because they wouldn't have overtuned the play anyways. It hit the player's elbow while he was out of bounds.
That was NOT the ruling on the field. And there was no conclusive evidence that it hit him. Cards ball.
It hid the player's elbow clearly. Sorry but you're wrong. Eagles ball.
No one thinks it clearly hit the elbow. It's hard to tell from the angles we saw, but it looked to me like it didn't.

What does PHI have on OFF they can use to catch up here? Their WRs are a bit outmatched by ARI's secondary.
Philly has no answer for Fitz and Boldin, and the offense is not clicking at all. Zona D is going to tee off on McNabb all 2nd half and it's going to just get uglier with sacks and INTs. Philly has no WRs to lead a comeback.IMO this game is OVAH!

Two Philly fans, one of whom is watching on a 61 inch television, disagree.

Can Philly fans tell us again how relevant that 48-20 game on Thanksgiving was in relation to this game?
I think any Philly fans who were actually pointing to that game as being even remotely relevant going into today should not be considered fans.

It did because the ball changed its spin once in hit the players arm. I thought it was pretty obvious.

The Cards look good going into halftime, but the NFL is a copycat league, and teams are going to start copying the Cardinals' strategy of winning an easy division, then losing badly against possible future playoff opponents.

Just pathetic. Do you really need to blitz on a 3rd and 15?

What they're saying about Warner handling the blitz can't be underestimated. Those quick reads are what's making this possible.

I don't understand. The player wasn't out of bounds, the ball may or may not have hit him, the ball did not hit out of bounds, kickoffs are free kicks...no matter how you spin it, it should have been Arizona's ball right? Disclaimer: I have not gone back and read this whole thread...

Judging from the fact that more than half the folks here are saying it didn't, and the burden of proof on review would be to prove CONCLUSIVELY that it did (since the ruling on the field said nothing about it hitting a player out of bounds) you are incorrect.
