NFC Wild Card Game: Detroit at Dallas (1 Viewer)

Tuesday or Wednesday the NFL will come out with an "Official" apology that the initial call was the correct call and the refs screwed it up.

Then, everyone will be happy and the NFL will wash their hands of this. Replays of the play will be forbidden from any future televised game.

Four legs good, two legs better.

Meh, no explanation for "the call" (or Dez Bryant not getting a flag for obv. unsportsmanlike) but I thought the refs favored Detroit a bit in the 1st half.

Garrett went for 4th down on both 2nd half TD drives & Caldwell punted like a wimp every chance he got.

Yes. The old 'they let the refs impact the game' line. Get a clue. Lions should have had first down at the 15 and a TD away from the game being over. The nfl didn't want that to happen so it didn't. Of course the lions should have dominated them so much that the refs couldn't screw them over.

The ball would've been at the 30, not the 15. Lions hadn't scored a touchdown since the first quarter - it's very likely they settle for a FG there, and it's also very likely Dallas scores a TD even if they start a few yards further back and have a little less time.

The call sucked, but the better team won the game.

Thing is Detroit out-gained Dallas, led almost the whole game, and dominated portions of the game. They still could have won, sure, but Dallas wasn't the better team today. Most NFL games are one score affairs, a huge call like picking up a PI flag for no apparent reason, and essentially taking points off the board is huge. The difference for Dallas is driving to the 30 and tying it up at 20-20, completely different if they are down 23-17 IMO.

Dallas is the better team. Detroit was the better team today.

Yes, Detroit probably would have gotten only 6 and Dallas still could have gone the whole field and won. But I don't think that would have happened. I think Cowboys fans and haters would both have been much happier if it had gone that way and Dallas won that way.

I don't know why they don't use whole normal crews during the playoffs instead of these hodge podge "best" crews and I don't know for the life of me why PI is still not reviewable. It's the most controviesial and hardest to interpret rule in football.

Until it happened, the chances of Romo leading a game-winning playoff drive was about .005% and the chances of a heart-breaking pick 6 was about 75%. Also, I spent the last 10 days in Detroit. Listened to a lot of sports talk and talked to a lot of sports fans. Almost everything I heard was negative tripe about the team, especially Stafford, Suh and Caldwell. If that's the support you give your team, you deserve this. Horrible fan base.

I'm not really sold on the "fixed" thing per se. I don't think it was decided before teh game that Dallas was going to win. That said, I'm very curious if there was any benefit to the ref for Dallas winning. Something had to be up. Either he just wanted Dallas to win, or more likely he saw Dez run on, heard the crowd react to the call, and got scared of scrutiny. Now it's backfired on him and he's going to get grilled for this even more then if he left the flag down. Would hate to win the game this way, that will always be brought up when talking about this season.

Irvins immense defending of the ref's decision is hilarious if anyone is watching. His homerism is pure comedy.

Pretty sure Irvin knows a little more about football than you, broguy.

I somehow had a funny feeling and I was with my uncle, couzens and my uncle said his doctor who was in the Birmingham area in Mich, said they wouldn't allow Detroit to win. Not gonna bring enough Money in. this crap is all about the money and that doctor was right man for sure. Total raping on the officiating crew. If they call that pass Interference with 5 min left in 4th game is over, lions are in field goal range, the D was playing great all game.

Again... wasn't 'fixed', where it was a 100% guarantee Dallas needed to win this game. They could have done it more discretely if so.

Every week refs make a call and then just change it a minute or so later.....wait, that never happens.

Yeah, you don't see a call like that get changed unless the ball was deflected. Terrible, poor Lions.

This was NBA type of awful. I have NEVER seen that happen. Especially in a playoff game.

Yeah it was awful but they could have still went for it on 4th down and didn't.

Ton of stuff could have happened. EVERYONE is saying they never seen anything like this before. The announcers even after the game are going into it now. He actually called the penalty then changed it. That's crazy.

Flags are picked up ALL THE TIME. The main 'weird' thing about it is that the penalty was announced and then after it was announced it was picked up. Where the refs messed up was not announcing why it was picked up. More than likely a side judge came in late and said he had a better vantage point and didn't see neough to warrant a PI. Which the Head Judge should've announced. Instead they just picked up the flag and ignored it. I'd like to hear the post game conference to see what Caldwell says he was told by the refs.
