Someday soon it may be the only way you will be able to watch an NFL game on TV. As greedy as the NFL is getting, they just may shoot themselves in the foot by thinking NFL fans will pay to watch. I'm not one of them. I might pay for a couple Colts games per year and the playoffs, but that's it. One thing that might prevent such a thing from happening is the lost advertisement revenue.

I remember when you could watch a heavyweight title match on Wide World of Sports, then everything went Pay Per View. Now look at boxing, no one gives a crap about it. I bet most couldn't tell you who the champions are in 2 or more weight divisions. In the 60's and 70's boxing was probably more popular than the NFL.

I will discontinue watching football if this should ever happen, which it won't.

thread on this a couple weeks back JU

My understanding is boxing was an event and "the big fight" didn't happen often. Maybe a few a year. Not really a week to week fascination.

The NFL already is doing Pay Per view in a way with the NFL Sunday Ticket.

And before Boxing got to the train wreck it is, I can remember a ton of people paying for a Mike Tyson fight.

Considering what the NFL already charges you to attend a game, drink a beer at the game, and eat a hot dog at a game? There is now way in hell that I would ever watch an NFL game on a pay per view basis. Ever. Not too mention the ad revenue and money they make off of merchandising.

I hope it doesn't ever come to this, because I will stop watching.

In a way, I guess they are. But I can turn on my TV and watch a Packer game any time I want in Wisconsin (except of course when the NFL pull stunts like this season with their own network). If they tried to make that pay per view, I wouldn't be tuning in. I'm be listening to Packer Radio Network.

You should still get the Thursday Night Packer-Viking game on your local channel - They have not stooped that low (yet). :banned:

It would be a short term cash grab and long term death, just like boxing.

But it doesn't much matter. The NFL would run into way too many anti-trust issues if it ever went this route.

???I don't think this is true. The Packer Viking game on the 21st is on NFL Network. My understanding is that if your provider doesn't carry NFL Network, you aren't getting the game. For example, in Madison, WI, Charter is the sole cable provider. They do not carry the NFL Network. Mayhem is ensuing amongst local Packer fans. Me, I have DISH Network so I'll be watching the game in the comfort of my own home....

Also, the day the NFL and the networks become so short-sighted as to charge to watch weekly football games, is the day I stop watching the NFL.

It is already getting ridiculous enough with the many ways the sports industry reaches into our pockets to grab our hard earned money.

Slimly related note: Don't get me started on the creation of the Big Ten Network which in the future will control the broadcast of all Big Ten events. I'm pretty sure that won't end up being a good thing for Joe Fan.

Dont know about any of you but if the NFL ever did this and I know I would be "paying" by doing this as well but Sirius sounds like a great deal to me.
