NFL Double-Headers - like them or hate them? (2 Viewers)

Do you like having 2 games on MNF?

  • Hell no! it’s annoying and I wish they’d only have 1 game on MNF

  • Hell yes! I love having more than 1 option on MNF!

Florio asked the question, but seems a little sheepish in his answers. I get it, don’t bite the hand that feeds you and all that. He also sort of framed it as “simultaneous or staggered” which to me isn’t so much the argument as “do double headers stink in general or is it a good thing?”

So I figured I’d put it to the good denizens of FBG - what do you think of prime time double headers? Binary - never mind if they’re staggered or not. So you enjoy 2 games on MNF of would you prefer only 1?

Personally I’m not a fan. I don’t love flipping back and forth, and as an IDP guy, even in the scrubbiest of games I have things to watch for.

I work Sunday mornings, so I typically only get to watch the prime time games in their entirety. It just feels like a lot to flip around, and on a night like last night when both games sucked, especially so.

Love it when it's like week 2 where the second game does not start until the first game is over.

Strongly despise playing both games at the same time like last night.

I thought about this last year and came up with my theory they do the same, or staggered start times, to help their new big partner, Youtube. Specifically what I mean is having both games playing at the same time enhances the multiview feature on Youtube TV.

On Sunday there are multiple games going on at the same time
Having 2 that are staggered on a Monday is fine
One thing that would make it better is to let Red Zone broadcast them
ABC/ESPN/Disney would never let that happen
But for me the more football the better
Sunday,Monday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday
Since the NFL just pays lip service to player safety let's do doubleheaders on Thursday's
Start an east coast game early and a west coast game later
Let's add two more expansion teams
The more football the better!

the quality of the games themselves means nothing to me because in fantasy its about points in those games...not what's on the screen. and we had two great games going last night in our main league. i would prefer the staggered start except for the fact that i'd never be able to stay up that late. i set up two TVs last night (how i watch on sundays anyway and split the screens between 8 games thanks to multiview) so the overlap isn't that bad

Indifferent. I'm a RedZone Channel watcher on Sundays, really paying more attention to my phone w/ the MFL and/or Sleeper app for my fantasy matchups.

So I'll watch whatever game happens to be on (the first one exclusively until the second starts, then whatever).

I prefer only one Monday night game, but if the NFL insists on continuing these Monday double-headers then I prefer the simultaneous games to the staggered games. Waiting to start the second game until the first finishes is brutal for East Coast viewers who have to work the next day.

I have two TV's set up in my den so I don't have to flip back and forth but I still don't really like it. The beauty of the MNF game is that it is the only game in town and it just feels different because of that. Having multiple games on Monday just cheapens it and makes it a lot more run of the mill. I vote no to doubleheaders for MNF.

This is me also. I hate the overlap. I don’t mind 2 games consecutively. I detest 2 games running concurrently or slightly staggered like last night.
if they have to do a double header....then make it a double header and stagger them. Don't have them on at the same time....but also just have one MNF game.

Start times on the East Coast throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s was 9:00pm
In 2006, ESPN swooped in and nudged it up to 8:30
2018 they began airing it at 8:15

I'll always opt for more football. There are a ton of early Sunday games anyway. Moving an extra one to Monday won't hurt the Sunday experience.

Then again, I also like the super early Sunday game, too. Four games on a Sunday? Sure. Even if I don't watch them all, I could.

I do agree the MNF games should be staggered so one starts after the other.

One positive of the Monday night double-headers is they open up more potential fill-ins should you have a Monday night player who is declared inactive shortly before game time. Still sucks, though, when a player you were banking on isn’t declared inactive until Monday.

I wish they would get rid of the Thursday games (except Thanksgiving) and have Monday night double headers. One starting at 7 pm eastern and one at 10.
not a fan of 7 and 10 pm double header on Monday, much prefer the 7:15 and 8:15 like this week.
10 is too late

and I like to have options if one of the games suck + you can flip games and not watch halftimes

I like the doubleheader, also hate the Thursday game

I do think my biggest pet peeve is, this over saturation of European games, we have frickin six this year. I am pretty well a junkie for football but 9:30a until 11:30pm at night is too much for even me. I usually exercise on Sunday mornings before the games so I can justify sitting around all day.

Plus with the heavy european slate, you have less need for the NFL ticket, you can see so many games without it, if that thing expands any more I'll rethink the ticket.

But if both games are good (ha ha ha ha) it’s tough to miss action.

I could see doubleheaders being an every week thing on Monday.

With the staggered starts, if they get two barn burners going, and you see one amazing ending after another, that's the kind of drug that people love. Same thing with staggered starts during March Madness.

With the multi-view on YouTube TV, and the 65 inch TV, it's kind of easy to watch two games, and cuts down on commercials and talking heads.

I like the format with one hour in between kickoffs, but not the format with one game starting after the first is finished. I'd like the NFL to keep the two MNF games and ditch TNF completely.

Dumb and hate it and now I have to also say I hate how frequent they are now.

This season is definitely the most MNF double headers I’ve ever felt played, by a wide margin and without ya know, stopping to type this just to open up something to tell me how many more there are, I’d bet at least 2 more total DHMNFS.

Double hate!
