NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (2 Viewers)

Such a cool event.

Do wish it was snowing though. These are so awesome to watch when it's snowing during the game.

With the sun where it is it seems Washington would want to funnel more of its offense down the left side. I think every one of their shots came from the right so far.

Why would the Bruins move Lucic?

these talks don't make much sense to me.
because the front office is desperate. Lucic is coveted by many teams and the B's need a goal scoring right winger. I am skeptical that TJ is that but that's the scuttlebutt around here, anyway. The B's need scoring plain and simple and their best prospect now plays in Dallas. Chiarelli is on thehot seat it seems and he probably knows it. He managed to take a team that arguable was the best jn the conference and gutted them like a fish.
Dickie Dunn assured us that the team is better off without Seguin. If moving him forces them to dump Lucic as well, then this team is in complete meltdown mode.

hmmm, also looks like Dallas is 4 points behind Boston in the standings with 2 games in hand.
(Sorry, just checking in here for the first time in a couple of days.)

 It's funny how people forget that the Bruins somehow won the Presidents Trophy last year without Seguin. But it certainly is convenient to blame his absence for their problems this year.

What ails the B's (in no particular order):

* Haven't replaced Iginla as a top-line RW -- I think if they could have gotten him for 1-2 years, it would have worked, but once the Avs offered three, he was gone.(In theory, Seguin could have been in this spot, but for whatever reason, he's never seemed comfortable on the wing. He's blossomed at C in Dallas, but as I've asked before, where would he have fit in amongst Krejci, Bergeron and Soderberg?)

* Losing Boychuk -- this one's pretty self-explanatory; people can lament this all they want, but he really was the only defenseman they could have moved in preseason who was affordable and who another team would want

* Losing Thornton -- as silly as it sounds, his contributions went well beyond the ice

* Defensive woes -- they've spent much of the season without Chara and/or McQuaid, and Chara certainly seems like he's showing his age even when he is in the lineup

* Salary cap hell -- See item Nos. 1-2. They never would have been able to afford Iginla and/or Boychuk, and they could be screwed even more next year if the cap doesn't go up (for example, Soderberg is a UFA and makes just $1M now)

* Fourth line -- See item No. 3, but Paille and Campbell haven't been good this season (check out their advanced stats), yet they keep rolling them out there late in games.

* Too much tinkering -- This is just IMO, but they've spent much of the season trying to find the right combos with all of the lineup shuffling, and no one has been able to get comfortable. It's no surprise that Eriksson is playing as well as he has in his season-plus in Boston now that he's settling in with Soderberg and Kelly.

Had a great time at Nats park yesterday.NHL and Leonsis did a good job putting together an event that was well worth the price of admission even though the ref work was overall not that great. The call late on Toews was complete garbage but it clearly was a makeup call from the Niskanen call earlier that was also very suspect but still no excuse to make the call that late with 2 points riding on the line.

Got to talk to Rod Langway for a bit,met Jeremy Roenick and Craig Laughlin for a quick second and met some real classy Hawks fans who were in attendance and also saw some decent hockey.I also had no idea Billy Idol was still alive(and sucking)and who Lee Greenwood was until he started singing "I'm Proud To Be An American"(which was great, crowd was loving it).

Glad I got the chance to check it out and would do it again in a heartbeat.Great atmosphere and good friends=fun by all.

ETA:Should be a great 10 days of hockey for me.Seeing the WC yesterday and going to Montreal next weekend for another game.I was more stoked to see the Habs game but it's gonna have a tough time beating yesterday for entertainment value.

Why Billy Idol? I watched most of the game but was perplexed as to why they'd have him perform.

Glad to hear Hawks fans took the loss with class.

Bump for the World Juniors quarterfinals going off today.

1pm USA vs Russia

3pm Sweden vs Finland

5pm Czechs vs Slovakia

8pm Canada vs Denmark

So many dumb penalties for the USA and way too much trying to do it all by themselves............

Better luck next year
