NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (2 Viewers)

LOL I love the Phil Kessel is inconsistent thing. He's 2nd in the NHL in points since 2011-12, if he was consistent he'd be Sid.

eta with Tyler Bozak at centre no less.
yeah, Ron might be a little bitter here. What's he been up to the past few years?

seems to me the Leafs failures have a bit more to do with everybody else on the team. Kessel is often the only guy doing what he's paid to do.

He is inconsistent. Scores in bunches and then disappears. Two weeks on two weeks off is apt for him. His problem is he will score 3 in a 5 0 rout of another team but rarely scores the big one to tie it up or win it. He seems to disappear or get snake bit when we need him most.

I wish the Wild had a goal scorer as uncoachable as Kessel.
They always look so good from the outside.
Bruins fans still trashing Kessel and Seguin while their team circles the drain searching for a scorer is good shtick.

Bergeron/Kessel could have been pretty comparable to Toews/Kane, no?
No way the B's win the Cup in 2011 if they had Kessel instead of Seguin. No way.

I'll take Iginla over both of them, though. He's the type of goal scorer the Bruins miss.

I think there's good talent on that Toronto roster that was often misused. I'd like to see what they could do with a better coach.

Can't imagine Detroit letting Babcock get away though.

Babcock and Carlyle are complete opposites in getting the most out of people.

I haven't followed Carlyle much sent he left the Ducks. Does he still hate rookies and giving them a chance to grow?

I agree. I think their core is pretty good and they have talent at every position with decent depth.

Seemingly yes. I recall Gardiner being a healthy scratch quite a bit last year.

I think getting Toronto to a cup would be the final feather in his cap. Ego more than anything.

Without sounding completely obvious the Babcock discussion to Toronto will end soon. If no real head coach is hired in the next few games then Babcock is coming to Toronto.

Why would he want to come to Toronto? He's considered the best coach in the game and can only go down from here. I certainly wouldn't want to go there unless they offered me unworldly money.

Besides the challenge and the prestige/history(it's still TML folks we may be a joke but we weren't always) oh ya and I do say we not just because I'm a shareholder but because I'm a fan. We have the means to pay him whatever he wants.

No one under 50 has any memory of TML success unless you consider a couple playoff pushes ('93 for example) to be your successes--and none of those would move the needle in Montreal. Toronto may consider themselves the center of the hockey universe but no one else does at least as far as the NHL is concerned. A prestigious franchise? Sure. A perennial loser? Most definitely.

ooooof. Wild have totally unraveled. just a shell left. second short side goal in as many games for Kuemper. guy really turns into a head case when things snowball. not that it matters, the best they can put together is mediocre right now anyway. Haula needs to be parked again, he's not even trying. hope they don't do anything desperate and dumb since Leipold is probably antsy, unless it's for a D man.

eff me

has Bonino even scored a goal since we declared him the big winner of the great Kesler deal? I bet he's still getting sheltered minutes too. weird.
no goals since 12/13. only 1 point since then.

http://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/boninni01/scoring/2015/

meanwhile, Kesler has a primary assist on a short-handed goal, an OT goal, and 3 more points in that time span.

http://www.hockey-reference.com/players/k/keslery01/scoring/2015/

he's also winning over 55% of his faceoffs and ranks 4th overall in faceoff draws won this year (behind Giroux, Bergeron, and the amazing Tyler Bozak).
Of course, Bonino then scores tonight.

Very happy to see the Blues showing some life the last two games even if Arizona is a pretty bad team. That said, I am beside myself that Shane Doan performed a slew foot on Berglund also slamming him to the ice and the Blues did ... Nothing. It was about as intentional a dirty play can get and they just watched.

That might be the best period of hockey I've ever seen the Lightning play. They just crushed the Habs.
I think JT Brown is earning more ice time every time he plays

That was great road trip for the Lightning. Damn near perfect except for the first period in the burg and losing Gudas.

Hopefully Nesterov and fill in. I',m just not sold on Barberio as an every night player.

It also looks like Bishop is struggling a little. I'd like to see Vasilevskiy get the call up for one one of the upcoming back-to-back games against Boston or Philly next week. Syracuse is off from the 10th through the 16th so it could very well happen.

Yeo flipped out at practice this morning. Russo saying like something he's never seen before. and he's covered Mike Keenan.

Koivu and Kuemper both left practice hurt or sick. Scandella not practicing and Parise still hurt.

Thursday should be fun!

Parise's not hurt. He's with his father who has lung cancer.

THN midseason awards

Hart:

1. Rinne

2. Getzlaf

3. Seguin

So, if Seguin wins an MVP trophy, will Bruins fans still act excited about Reilly Smith?

Vezina:

1. Rinne

2. Price

3. Fleury

Fleury winning a Vezina and then getting benched in the playoffs again would be good shtick.

Norris:

1. Giordano

2. Keith

3. Weber

Giordano rules, but Weber might have a good chance this year with the way the Preds are playing.

Calder:

1. Forsberg

2. Gaudreau

3. Ekblad

Pretty strong group. Ekblad better than most people thought he'd be already.

Selke

1. Bergeron

2. Toews

3. Datsyuk

No surprises here.

Adams

1. Laviolette

2. Capuano

3. Maurice

Could be a runaway for Laviolette here.
