NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (2 Viewers)

players like Kane don't get traded...unless they play in Boston
But...But...Gretzky was traded!?!?!?!

In all seriousness I see two scenarios. If he's charged/indicted he gets cut a la Richards and the Kings. If he's not charged he's a Hawk, might do some sort of counseling or some such but he stays a Hawk.

IMO, they'll need the PR job of the year to repair his image even if they decide not to prosecute.

Interesting how earlier this summer you were defending Seguin by saying that it was simply a matter of getting older and more mature, and you pointed out Kane as an example.

How's that working out?
3 Stanley Cups? Working out pretty well for Chicago.

I'm not a Kane fan, but all recent reports before this latest incident were that he had matured. Not sure what the truth is now, so tough to say but I'm pretty sure Chicago is happy they didn't treat him the way the Bruins did Seguin. Pretty sure the Bruins would like to have Seguin back too.

 We'll just have to continue to agree to disagree on that.

As for Kane, I'm not sure if's any solace to the Blackhawks that he "appeared" to have matured, if there is any truth to what happened this summer. Doesn't mean they have to give any of their rings back, but I'm sure it sucks regardless.

I think they would like to have the horrible trade back but not Seguin...

If so, good riddance. Cut him, get the cap back and move on. So if he's charged this should be just like Richards no?
I assume so.

Richards situation hasn't really been resolved yet though. Kings might still have to pay him.
OK, wasn't sure how that was going to resolve.

Rumor is that Kane's grand jury hearing has been postponed due to settlement talks. Again, just a rumor as I've also heard that this type of settlement is illegal in NY.

We won't have to worry about that deal anyways because no way in hell Yzerman would do it.
why not? it's not a lock Stamkos stays in Tampa at UFA. Toronto is a real possibility.
still no extension for Stamkos.
And still no deal
of course not. why would he. extension is already a done deal.

Stamkos, who scored 43 goals last season in leading the Lightning to an Eastern Conference championship, said McDavid already eclipses him as a player.

"This guy is a special kid," Stamkos told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "I think he's better than me right now. I wouldn't have a second thought on saying that."

Stamkos, 25, also said McDavid is better than he was at 18 years old.

"Oh, he's way better," Stamkos said. "He is good. The best I've seen for a player that age."

And still no trade deal.....................which was what that was all about.Talks were he could have been dealt at draft day and that never happened.

Updated Buffalo News Article

From the above article:

“They have been in settlement discussions and both say they want their day in court, but both have vacillated from time to time and also said: Let’s just resolve it,” one of the sources said Tuesday.

Three current and former law enforcement officials with knowledge of the case confirmed that Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III postponed beginning the grand jury review, which was set to start at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Two of those sources and a third individual close to the case confirmed settlement talks are ongoing.

Former Erie County District Attorney Frank J. Clark said he was surprised and baffled to learn about the postponement of grand jury proceedings.

“I was surprised, very surprised,” said Clark, who worked closely for many years with Sedita when Sedita was his lead homicide prosecutor.

Clark said he could think of three possible reasons why Sedita would delay presentation of evidence.

“I have delayed presenting a case to a grand jury in the past, and usually the reason is that the defendant’s attorney came to me and said, ‘Please, don’t present this, let’s work out some kind of plea deal,’ ” Clark said. “And we worked out a plea deal.”

Based on everything he has heard about the Kane case, Clark said it appears highly unlikely that Cambria is trying to work out a guilty plea for his client.

“The second possibility is the victim’s attorney coming to the prosecutor and saying, ‘Please hold off on the grand jury for awhile. My client is very upset, she’s in a lot of turmoil, and she just isn’t ready for this at this point,” Clark said. “If he tells you that, you’re going to surmise that they’re trying to work out some kind of civil agreement between the victim and the defendant. But that agreement would not, in any way, be binding on the prosecutor. He could still proceed with his case if he feels strongly about it.”

The third possibility cited by Clark was “witness availability.”

“You sometimes may delay the proceeding because an important witness or two are not immediately available to you,” the retired DA said.

Clark said he was basing his comments on his experience in more than 33 years as a prosecutor and 12 as DA, adding that he really doesn’t know what is happening in the Kane case.

everyone was laughing off the Lightning trading Stamkos like his extension was in the bag. you don't think they will look at trading him at some point if he hasn't signed? oh right, you were just talking about draft day. because Eichel would never be moved after the draft. once you pick a guy you are locked in.

Stamkos said today they are in "the middle phase" of the contract negotiations. Seems like it'll get done sometime relatively soon.

I think PK plays. I think he pays the woman a bunch of money and the DA declines to prosecute because she will refuse to testify. I still think PK raped her but also think he gets off without jail time.
Should be interesting, seems like the NHL and Hawks are backing away slowly at the moment.

I never said his extension was in the bag but the deal that was being talked about was never gonna happen and it didn't which was my point.

I'm sure this is not PC to say but isn't the best thing for the girl To just take a settlement? I mean, if not he is going to get his lawyers to tear her apart in an effort for him to get off. Screw it, the damage has already been done and a lot of rape cases are tough to get a conviction. Avoid all the drama and take some cash.

I understand all the arguments the other way and I have a daughter so I can only imagine how I would react if it was my daughter but at the end of the day it might make more sense to take the cash instead of rolling the dice on seeing this POS brought to justice.

Doesn't work like that. She could settle with him all she wants and he might still have to face criminal charges. Since the burden of proof is a whole lot lower in civil court, she could take him for a hefty amount depending on the evidence.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have acquired defensemen Dennis Robertson and Jake Massie and a fifth-round selection in the 2017 National Hockey League Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forwards Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom and a third-round selection in the 2017 NHL Draft.

With all the young talent fighting for roster slots I'm glad they were able to move Versteeg. Wouldn't mind seeing Bickell go too, but I don't imagine it's going to happen.
