NHL Season Thread: TB wins and Kucherov loves beer (1 Viewer)

That last one I don't put on Grubauer. Team in front of him failed to get it out when they had control of it and no one picks up a streaking Pietrangelo towards the net. Team seemed like they thought they were already in the intermission.

Sitting fleury game 1.

Brilliant move, or fortunate that they rebounded?

They could have had a 3x5 sheet of plywood in the net and would have lost anyway.

I think it's interesting that they came back and won 4 of 5. Fleury looked pretty good from what I saw. Maybe he needed the rest.

Colorado's defense just got worn down. Couldn't handle the forecheck of Vegas. They knew they allowed the Avs to break out way too easily in Game 1 and allowed the Avs speed to dictate that game. Vegas made the right changes and won 4 straight.

Kinda of amazing COL didn't make the adjustments they needed to make

Wow, I vastly overestimated the Avs.  They swept a decimated Blues team, and then lost 4 straight to the Vegas after getting every break in the book to grab a 2-0 lead. Paper champions.

Golden Knights are fun as heck to watch.

No depth beyond Makar-Toews and Girard-Graves. The third pair (Nemeth-Timmins) played 11 minutes in an elimination game.

Have to assume Byram still wasn't ready, and losing Johnson for the whole season didn't help.

Very true. Tough to shield that issue. I mean, I guess you could try to make the reads easier for the defensemen. On the breakouts I'm saying. Or try to play the game in Vegas' zone.

It seemed like they did the best with it (post Game 1) when they were really tough on the forecheck. Might've been the 2nd period of Game 3 where they had a really dominating period due to this. There was one period where the Avs seemed to forecheck better than the others (still not as good as Vegas), but it caused a decent amount of mistakes on Vegas' part. Have to be able to win consistently more ways than one.

Vegas swarmed MacKinnon and disrupted breakouts with their forecheck and really took away the speed of the Avs. It still snuck through because Colorado is so talented, but for the most part, outside of Game 1, Vegas had the right game plan.

I have to come back to this: Avs are up 2-1 late in the 3rd in Game 3. And they blow the lead. They're up 2-0 in the 3rd in Game 5. And they blow the lead. Championship teams close out those victories. There's 2 wins right there. Even if you split those two, you're heading into Game 7 in a winner take all.

The Pietrangelo acquisition really put Vegas over the top in my opinion. He was fantastic this series.

Currently the only healthy goalie the Avs have under contract for next year is Justus Annunen who played 2 AHL games this year.

Agreed. And Girard and Graves didn't play well either.

They need the right veteran additions. 3rd line should be turned into an elite forechecking unit. Hopefully Byram and Newhook develop well. Need to fix the defense a bit for sure.

About 22% implied odds. Don’t see that often this late in the playoffs.

Dom at the athletic has them at 24% to win the series.
I mean, you can’t discount what having Price in net could do ... except for the fact that the other team has Fleury at the other end.

Yea. I mean they did beat Toronto who is super talented but Vegas can match their goaltending. I think Vegas wins in 5. I may actually bet that exact amount of games.
