Not so fast - Josh McDaniels backed out of the Colts job (1 Viewer)

I think luck is toast and Indy finally let him know. That would explain them already being prepared and having interviews on the books... this is on Indy’s end.

I guess he figures his only chance to win another Super Bowl, what with the Eagles emerging as the dominant Force in the NFL, is if he stays with New England....and they play a little harder in the game next year....even then though......

If luck’s MRI is indeed bad and his shoulder is toast, the Colts will drop to sub browns level and be the worst franchise in the NFL for the near future.

It would be fitting if Chuck Pagano’s tough guy machismo and stereotypical, pathetic NFL coach schtick ruined a once a generation QB’s career. I would be sad to not see Luck play to his potential again.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Josh McDaniels' assistants, including DC Matt Eberflus, signed contracts with the Colts and are expected to remain with Indianapolis.

Talk about awkward. So, basically what's happening here, is McDaniels recruited these coaches to Indianapolis to be apart of his Colts staff, and then McDaniels backed out of the job, leaving Eberflus and others in limbo. According to Garafolo, Eberflus and others have already been in the building in Indy, breaking down film and whatever else, while they waited for McDaniels to officially be introduced. Now, the new Colts coach will be stuck with assistants he didn't hire. This whole situation is a complete mess with no real end game in sight.

Wow. Unbelievable. The coaches around the league are gonna hate this guy, idk how he plans on assembling a staff in the future. These guys bought his pitch and moved their families to take this opportunity--now they're not only starting at a disadvantage, they not only will be stuck with the type of HC hire who would be fine not putting together his own staff...but they'll also not be "his guys" and will always be on the hot seat.

Assurances regarding the future of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick helped Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels decide to turn down the Indianapolis Colts' offer to be their head coach, ESPN.com's Mike Reiss reported Tuesday.

Benjamin Allbright of 104.7 in Denver also reported McDaniels has received a commitment from the Patriots he'll succeed Belichick when the legendary head coach steps down.

Multiple reports say multiple Colts assistants, including Eberflus, not only signed but have been in the building all day working.

Now take that news and fact one of the spins McDaniels camp is putting out that his family and not wanting to uproot them are reasons he wanted to say in NE. I mean he just convinced these assistants to leave jobs, cities, uproot families and now they don't even know who their boss is and in no way could feel very secure.

Kind of funny that people think owners who had no problem employing Greg Hardy, Ray Rice and Josh Brown would draw the line at a coach who changed his mind. Any future team that thinks McDaniels can help them win will be willing to overlook what he did today without a moment's thought.

He’s full of it. Kraft offered him a raise and obviously Belichick job in short order.

The owners probably will. It's just writing a check for them. How about fellow coaches though? Who's trusting this guy and joining his staff in the foreseeable future? The NFL is a good ol' boys club and he just did something really bush league to piss off the fraternity

This seems to confirm that this is not a near term Belichick replacement:

“According to Reiss, McDaniels would've been more likely to leave New England if he thought Belichick was on the way out.”

Yeah, following the best coach in NFL history without the best QB in NFL history seems beyond foolish.

And I'm with the crowd that thinks that there is no way he gets another HC offer unless he is straight up fired by NE. Probably not even then.

IMO, this is a horrible decision by McDaniels.
If anyone thinks that they are crazy. He’s had opportunities for years and hasn’t taken them. Lots of teams would jump to hire him.

Im not sure how getting fired would make him more attractive, you lost me there.

Indy might just have to pay them off. Any decent HC isn't going to take the job and not be able to hire his own assistants.

Unbelievable on McDaniels' part. What a bag o' crap. Too bad the Colts can't sue.

If McDaniels was interested in succeeding Belichick then that doesn't even make sense.

Would Jim Harbaugh please pickup a white courtesy phone in the hotel lobby.

If any of these assistants feel slighted after signing contracts to work for a coach who himself hadn’t signed a contract yet, they may not be all that bright to begin with.

I agree he f###ed them over but good. Still think it won't stop him from being able to assemble a staff when the time comes.

Who has less character and integrity? Robert Kraft or Josh McDaniels?
What did Kraft do? Sounds like he made a last ditch effort to keep him. Some other business tries to steal one of my employees, I’m not feeling bad if I try to keep them and they stay. Josh is a turd imo.

I’m sure the Irsay family is pissed. I bet they can’t even imagine someone telling a fanbase one thing and then suddenly doing the exact opposite thing without warning...

Hahahahahahhahahahha!

Couldn’t have happened to a better franchise.  They deserve this after starting that farce known as Deflategate. I couldn’t be happier  #KARMAISA#####

heir apparent in NE I, guessing I think BRady/Gronk and the hoodie hang em up together after one more go at it.
Wishfull thinking. Brady will play until he is at least 45 years old. Gronk said what he said 15 minutes after losing the SB and is likely negotiating his contract in public as he isn’t happy with  it’s incentive laden nature and Belichick has his two sons on the staff and will likely stay with them for a while...They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon

I’m not an “I told you so” guy, but in this case...

Colts get a huge break as McDaniels again displays how professional he is.  Hasn’t changed one iota from his days in DEN.

Seriously, this is the dumbest kind of spin. It will fool absolutely no one. Why can't they just admit they were blindsided?
Right, they would not have already inked the assistants if they were aware. This by the way is biggest screw job of all to both the team and the assistants and to top it off I just read a few minutes ago that the assistants he lured have not even heard from him.

But then at the same time they're getting paid millions to take another step towards being a HC
