Nuk holding out (1 Viewer)

Would you be okay with a team renegotiating a contract for a player that's sucking?

Let's say a player making $10 mil/year is playing more like a $1 or $2 mil/year player......should the team say, "Nah, you're under performing. Let's renegotiate before the season starts (or we're cutting you)."
This happens a lot more than players getting a raise for outperforming their contract.

I agree with JaxBill that Hopkins doesn't have any leverage here. At the same time, he is losing significant money for each day he doesn't report. Seems futile to sacrifice that money if he is just going to cave in after a few days, unless this does end up leading to a new contract at some point, maybe after he reports?

They do have a bunch of rookie WR from the draft and free agency. so getting these guys more reps in the meantime not a bad thing

Umm this happens all the time.   Don't think you get it.  These aren't guaranteed contracts.  These guys deserve to get what they're worth.  If the pay was guaranteed, then it changes things.
Well then I guess every player should look at the stats after every season and hold out if they being underpaid...right?  Going by your logic, almost every team should have a player (or players) holding out.

"Let me see....I was the #4 best WR last season but I'm being paid like the #8 WR....NOT COOL!  I'm gonna hold out!"

Well think you're taking it too the extreme.  But yes if your a top-5 WR in the game and getting paid peanuts (relative to other top WR's) then yea I have no issues with it.  It's in his own best interest to maximize his worth.

Not even close to Nuk's situation....he isnt being paid like the #8 wr....

Honestly the issue is a 5 year rookie contract is too long....teams know pretty much after 3 seasons if a rookie was worth it or not....I imagine Nuk won't be the only top player holding out after 3 years on a rookie deal....

As a Raiders fan with Mack, Cooper and Carr coming up, I really hope Reggie does the right thing and extends them before it gets to the point of a hold out.

I wouldn't be surprised if players like Gurley, David Johnson, Cooks, etc...all end up holding out on their rookie deals down the road if their respective teams don't offer extensions..

Was that a one-day holdout? lmao. That's right son, get back to work!

Texans called his bluff. He folded. Foolish.
