This happens a lot more than players getting a raise for outperforming their contract.Would you be okay with a team renegotiating a contract for a player that's sucking?
Let's say a player making $10 mil/year is playing more like a $1 or $2 mil/year player......should the team say, "Nah, you're under performing. Let's renegotiate before the season starts (or we're cutting you)."
I agree with JaxBill that Hopkins doesn't have any leverage here. At the same time, he is losing significant money for each day he doesn't report. Seems futile to sacrifice that money if he is just going to cave in after a few days, unless this does end up leading to a new contract at some point, maybe after he reports?
They do have a bunch of rookie WR from the draft and free agency. so getting these guys more reps in the meantime not a bad thing
