I'm guessing nobody here wants to waste the calories.
If I ever heard a dude say "I dont wanna waste the calories" ....

I dunno. I just would just make every attempt to never befriend him
Some people don't want to walk around like tubby piles of ####
You could burn off a lot of calories going clothes shopping for a nice pair of fancy jeans.
:ilift: bruh

Even after 15 drinks this Chicago pizza is gross - I brought some back to my hotel and could hardly eat this disgusting "pizza"

Anyine who thinks this 12 layers of bread topped with weak cheese and crap sauce tastes good, holds zero weight in any food discussion, ####### gross.

I'm thinking that if this is such a concern to anyone it has far more to do with regional/personal feelings (insecurities?) than anything having to do with a defined palate/culinary issue.

NY "pizza" shouldn't be compared with Chicago "pizza". But to dismiss one because it isn't like the other seems odd.

maybe try folding the pizza?

I like most pizza. Have had both good and bad of both NY and Chicago styles. If I had to choose one, probably Chicago.

Worked at a Rocky Rococo's in Madison in the 70's.  Before they tried to go corporate and let Oscar Meyer and Hunt's have influence on their recipes the stuff was righteous.

Pan style, whole wheat dough risen four times so it was just a hint sour, like a combination of whole wheat and sour dough.  On top of that was a layer of sliced mozzarella.  This would bake down into the crust keeping it from rising quite as high as some Chicago Style pies, well that and the four times risen dough sort of uses up some of the power of the yeast. Thick pizza, cheesy, but not quite Chicago style as far as depth.  If we stopped right there this would be the best cheese bread you ever had.  Next came the sauce, not some horrible corporate concoction to appeal to the widest possible palate, in other words plain, but with spices you could smell and taste.  Then the toppings, fresh veggies or specialty meats, sausage and pepperoni from a family run place.  They both had flavor, not like the crap you get from one of the major chains now. Then, another layer of mozzarella, this time grated instead of sliced.  I miss that stuff.

Born and raised in NYC and the surrounding area so I am biased, but I prefer thin crust (obviously).  However, I have had good Chicago style pizza, both in Chicago and elsewhere.  I like both, but given the choice I will take the thin crust.

I just got back from a 4-day conference in Chicago and I must have done something wrong because I could barely find a pizza place and the one's recommended to me blew. Giordano's I think it was. 45-minute wait for the pizza, and it was pretty ####ty.

I vote for Philly and New York pizza. Really hard to lay claim by city I think for this food category. We have guys straight off the boat from Italy cooking Pizza at local pizza shops that tastes great, and you can go a block and taste something completely different. I thought all big cities were like this, but I guess not

nobody eats Giordano's except dumb tourists I think

Still a couple of surviving stores in Milwaukee, but it's been #### for a long time.

yeah, kicking myself pretty good for not thinking to check this thread while at the conference. I just assumed there were pizza shops all over the place and anybody you ask can tell you a few good one's. You come to Philly and everybody knows the most popular Cheese Steak places, and plenty of opinions about personal tastes of which one's to go to outside of that top 5. 2 dudes we asked recommended that place.

I usually tell people "whatever you do, don't eat Giordano's. Tough to go wrong otherwise."

Did those 2 dudes recommend Navy Pier too?

Had a good meal though at Bar Siena - good culinary town, pizza obviously excluded.

Their pizza was actually not bad, but it wasn't that gross 21 inches deep kinda garbage.

lol actually yup. I was wondering because it seems like Chicago had no personality or anything. I'm guessing next time I'll check FFA first

eta: also some dumb ### building you have to pay $20 for to go to top floor and look out. People I were with liked it, I couldn't figure out why the hell I just paid to go to a top of a building. They don't usually charge for that in Philly.

Yeah, when they changed the recipe it went from great to below averaqe.  I had hoped that when the corporate franchising thing did not hit as they had hoped that they might have returned to the recipes that made it a cult classic.

I don't get back there anymore and have not had a slice since 1980 but it sucked then, not like the first 5 or 6 years.

For all you Chicago style fans not in Chicago...I know several of the brands ship pizza around the country.  Have you ever bought any and had it shipped?  Somebody posted the pic of the Malnati's in the freezer earlier.  How do these frozen shipped varieties compare taste-wise to the real deal?  They seem pretty expensive to ship though.

I truly feel bad for anyone that needs to ship pizza - should be something easily purchased locally. I can't see how anyone recommends doing this.

I posted the picture, I believe it went uneaten and thrown out when we moved offices IIRC.

I've also mentioned before, if you do like thicker pizza and are in NYC, take a trip to L&B Spumoni Gardens in Bensonhurst and get the square - fantastic & some of the best you'll ever eat, but nothing like what I ate yesterday.

need vs. want.  I have never done it as it seems grossly overpriced, but there are no places anywhere near me that do a decent Chicago style.  If I were to want it, I would need to travel or have it shipped.

Is Pequod's highly rated by Chicagoans? I generally prefer NY-style pizza but Pequod's is the best pizza I've ever had.

Cape May, NJ actually has the worst pizza in the country if I'm gonna be honest. Like 5 pizza places in the town and they're all worse than a microwaved pizza from the supermarket.

Pequods was recommended to me by some natives.

I am dying to try an Italian Beef sandwich, which I guess is native to Chicago... never even heard of that before yesterday. Def on the hit list for the next trip.
